RUSH: We have Joe Scarborough of MSNBC, John Roberts of CNN, Willie Geist of MSNBC, somebody else on MSNBC, and Norah O\u2019Donnell all talking — you know, this poor guy, Brian McGough of VoteVets.org, he\u2019s running around saying that I called him a suicide bomber yesterday on this program. And, of course, he says it, there\u2019s no questioning it, and here\u2019s the montage of the Drive-Bys reacting to it. Sit tight, Dawn. Dawn\u2019s about to explode in there. She came in today, ‘I am never going to watch or listen to Geraldo again after last night, and Alan Colmes.\u2019 Just chill. Everything\u2019s under control here. It\u2019s going our way. Here\u2019s the montage.<\/p>\n

SCARBOROUGH: We\u2019re going to hear for the next five days how Rush Limbaugh called this guy a suicide bomber.<\/p>\n

ROBERTS: Rush called this guy a suicide bomber<\/p>\n

GEIST: He used a metaphor to say he was like a suicide bomber.<\/p>\n

OLBERMANN: Comparing that soldier to a suicide bomber.<\/p>\n

O\u2019DONNELL: Essentially comparing him to a suicide bomber.<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, anybody care what I actually said about this? Would you like to hear what I actually said? This was Tuesday on the program, and I was talking about the ad that they are running.<\/p>\n

RUSH ARCHIVE: You know, this is such a blatant use of a valiant combat veteran, lying to him about what I said, then strapping those lies to his belt, sending him out via the media and a TV ad to walk into as many people as he can walk into. This man will always be a hero to this country with everyone. Whoever pumped him full of these lies about what I said and embarrassed him with this ad has betrayed him. They\u2019re not hurting me. They\u2019re betraying this soldier. Now, unless he actually believes what he\u2019s saying, in which case it\u2019s just so unfortunate and sad when the truth of what I said is right out there to be learned.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I called him a hero. The other reference is the Drive-By Media runs in, blows things up, creates all these messes, and then heads on down the road to create another one. So I called him a suicide bomber. You see how this works? I didn\u2019t call anybody who legitimately serves a phony soldier. I didn\u2019t call this guy a suicide bomber. It\u2019s out there that I called him a suicide bomber. Here\u2019s McGough. He was on MSNBC last night talking about the fact that I called him a suicide bomber.<\/p>\n

MCGOUGH: The reaction is disgust, how someone can sit in that chair and say that I am a car bomber — or, excuse me, a suicide bomber is disgusting. I\u2019ve seen the after-effects of suicide bomb. I\u2019ve had friends that were hurt in suicide bombs. It makes me mad down to a place where I can\u2019t even think to describe. It\u2019s just repugnant.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s not just repugnant, it\u2019s very sad. Brian, let me try this again. Mr. McGough, I admire you for your service. I admire anyone and everyone who volunteers to serve in the United States military in this country, always have. I\u2019m grateful to you for your service. And that, Brian, is an unqualified thank you, whether or not you support the war or the surge, President Bush, or not. But, Brian, there are phony soldiers. You aren\u2019t one, Brian McGough is not a phony soldier and I never called you a phony soldier. Jesse MacBeth, and there are lots of Jesse MacBeths — and, by the way, he was born in 1984, and do you know what his name was when he was born? Jesse Al-Zaid. Jesse Al-Zaid was his real name. He changed his name to MacBeth sometime after he was born. A lot of phony soldiers out there. The latest report of the latest phony soldier comes from Philadelphia and New Jersey media. The Democrat mayor of Atlantic City has been lying about his Vietnam service record. Now he\u2019s AWOL, nobody knows where he is.<\/p>\n

There are lots of phony soldiers out there, Brian, but I never called you one, not calling you one now, never would call you one. But people that talk about fake Purple Hearts and that lie about people like you, Brian, these are people telling people that you hang innocent Iraqi citizens from the rafts of mosques. I\u2019m defending people like you, Brian McGough. You\u2019re being filled with a bunch of hate-inspired lies about me. Your anger about this is understandable, but it\u2019s misdirected. I never implied, never said that you, Brian McGough, or any of your group, were phonies. A political hit squad called Media Matters did that. Your beef is with them, not me.<\/p>\n

Now, there\u2019s something I can do, and I\u2019m in the process of doing it. It\u2019s the least I can do. Your organization is choosing to raise money, using my name, and I\u2019m happy about that. It\u2019s the least I can do for you guys. If you need to raise money, and my name raises money for a lot of people, you go right ahead because, Brian, it\u2019s going to come back to me. Here\u2019s how it works. You keep using your money that I raise for you to run ads on radio. If you buy time on my affiliates — and it\u2019s smart to do, that\u2019s going to reach you the largest audience — we use your money to make money for my station. So it\u2019s a win-win here, Brian. I\u2019m happy to raise money for you, and I\u2019m happy when you give it back to me.<\/p>\n
