I didn\u2019t think he was gonna veto it. I think he should. I think he could do a national address to this country and explain why he\u2019s vetoing it. And I have… Well, I have a bad feeling about it, but we\u2019ll just see what happens. But let\u2019s look out for something, okay?<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s gauge the immediate aftermath of this. Now, there\u2019s gonna be a congressional recess; it\u2019s already started. It\u2019s a two-week recess. So they\u2019ll be coming back after Easter which is April the 1st this year, and let\u2019s see how much newfound affection and love for Trump there is among the Democrats and on Capitol Hill after signing the budget. Let\u2019s see if this brings the Never Trumpers around. Let\u2019s see (if, in fact, he signs it) if it changes his fortunes in terms of the press coverage. Let\u2019s see if it makes Stormy Daniels go away.<\/p>\n
And let\u2019s see if it makes Karen McDougal go away. And let\u2019s see if Mueller says, “You know what? (laughing) You know what? I — I — I… It\u2019s about time to tell you, folks: We got nothing here on our investigation of collusion. So we\u2019re gonna be wrapping this up. We\u2019re gonna send a report up to Capitol Hill here and then they can do with this what they want.” Let\u2019s see if all of that happens. (interruption) What are my bets? Did you hear Jeff Zucker called Fox News “state-controlled media”? Where\u2019d he get that? So you had Hillary Clinton out there — or some aide for Hillary — saying she\u2019d have to tie half her humanity behind her back, and now Jeff Zucker\u2019s out there calling Fox News state-controlled media. Which, in fact, that\u2019s what CNN, the New York Times, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC were during the Obama administration. State-controlled media! (laughing) Meanwhile, all CNN\u2019s become is porn central.<\/p>\n
I mean, folks, if you want to have a respectable way to talk about, learn about, listen about porn, simply tune in to CNN. That\u2019s all they\u2019ve been doing all morning. Now, I think also as we\u2019re waiting for this press conference to begin here at 1 o\u2019clock.<\/p>\n

JOHN KING: Rush Limbaugh\u2019s on the radio right now, because they saw the opening created by the president. The House Freedom Caucus says, “Veto it, Mr. President!” Senator Bob Corker says, “Veto it, Mr. President!” Conservatives say, “This is a horrible bill, more spending than President Obama ever got out of the Republican House. Veto it, Mr. President!” Again, I mentioned Rush Limbaugh. So the president builds up hope among his own base that he\u2019s about to do something and now he\u2019s going to come in and sign it.<\/p>\n
RUSH: So these…? What is it? These people are reveling in the fact that Trump is putting the screws to us? Is that what this is? Trump\u2019s putting the screws to himself if he does this, given everything that\u2019s known about this now. And, Mr. King, it\u2019s not just the spending in this thing. That\u2019s the least of this, and that is dramatically bad as it is. But the spending is the least of this! They weren\u2019t through. John King continuing with this on CNN…<\/p>\n
JOHN KING: Assuming the sources are correct that he\u2019s gonna sign this bill and he doesn\u2019t pull out the rug underneath from (sic) everybody, yet again… Underscoring both the chaos, the dysfunction, and the weakness of his presidency! He signed off on this deal two days ago! His people went out, told the leaders of Congress, told people who didn\u2019t want to vote for it, “Please vote for it. The president wants it.” The president spoke publicly for it.<\/p>\n
He wakes up this morning and threatens to veto it.<\/p>\n
Now he\u2019s gonna walk into a room and sign it after conservatives — Rush Limbaugh on the radio, all over Twitter, conservatives — saying, “Please, Mr. President. This is a bigger spending bill than Barack Obama could have ever dreamed of. This is a Democratic bill, not a conservative bill. Veto it.” He built up their hopes, and now he\u2019s essentially gonna sign a bill. He\u2019s going to prove, “I\u2019m Donald Trump. My brand is strength.
