<\/p>\nRUSH: Just a housekeeping thing. I notice many of you when I take your call say, “I want to get right to the point. Mr. Snerdley told me to get right to the point.” Let me tell you why you are told to get right to the point. It\u2019s not because Snerdley is mean, and it is not in any way insulting. It is so the show doesn\u2019t lose pace. It is all for the express purpose of moving the show forward. The show establishes a momentum. I, as host, provide it.<\/p>\n

Going to the phones should not slow it down. So there\u2019s the reminder, “Get to what you wanted to talk about.” That\u2019s why you\u2019re going on the air, what you wanted to talk about, and it\u2019s just a friendly reminder just to get in, get it, and get out. It\u2019s all about flow and momentum. It has nothing to do with being insulting. It\u2019s not that nobody wants to talk to you. When someone says, “Well, Snerdley told me to get right to the point, so, you know, I really don\u2019t want to get to the point!<\/p>\n
“There\u2019s some things I want to say first! But Snerdley told me to get to the point.” It\u2019s not that we don\u2019t want you to have some fun. It\u2019s about the flow. It\u2019s about maintaining the flow, and it\u2019s about having you look as good and sound as good as you possibly can because what you called about is what you\u2019re passionate about — and that\u2019s the magic.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s right. That was a Caller Clinic. We used to do these things regularly in the early days because calls were used so differently on this program than your traditional, standard, ordinary radio talk show back in the day, and it was necessary to explain to people. Folks, it\u2019s no different… Let\u2019s say you\u2019re invited to a Super Bowl party and you go to the party and you arrive, and you walk in the door, and you start talking to whoever\u2019s there about whatever\u2019s on your mind.<\/p>\n
“Hey, who do you think\u2019s gonna win the game?”<\/p>\n
You don\u2019t say, “Well, I was told when I got here, uh, you know, to just get straight to the point.”<\/p>\n
“Yeah, well, who do you think is gonna win?”<\/p>\n
“Well, I just want you to know that somebody told me not to mess around when I got here. I was supposed to say what I wanted to talk about.”<\/p>\n
“We know.”<\/p>\n
“Who\u2019s gonna win?”<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m just telling you, I was told that when I got here to get to the point. This guy that invited me, Snerdley, said when I got here I\u2019m supposed to do this and that.”<\/p>\n
“Okay, well, fine. If you don\u2019t want to tell me who you think is gonna win, fine. We\u2019ll move on.”<\/p>\n
That\u2019s what would happen at a Super Bowl party. Now, we\u2019re more polite than your average Super Bowl host. So we work with callers, \u2019cause callers are rank amateurs, and love them and so forth, to train them to becoming their own version of seasoned broadcast professionals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
