<\/a>CALLER: Just to your point yesterday in terms of what Trump did with that meeting,<\/a> I think there\u2019s a pattern over here. What Trump does is, you know, in public, in front of the TV, he says one thing, “Yeah, I\u2019m fine with whatever you send me.” And then he goes to Twitter feed, and he says, “No deal without the wall.” Now, he\u2019s not just throwing red meat to his supporters. He\u2019s actually confusing the opposition. That\u2019s precisely what he\u2019s doing.<\/p>\nEvery great negotiator knows that if you have two voices, the opposition doesn\u2019t really know what he\u2019s doing. And it\u2019s just to confuse the opposition, and the left won\u2019t realize that. But it\u2019s clear what he\u2019s doing. This Twitter feed is a phenomenal weapon that Trump has to confuse the opposition. I think that\u2019s more what he\u2019s using it for than just to throw red meat to his supporters.<\/p>\n
RUSH: I think that\u2019s exactly right, and I think there\u2019s something else that happened. By the way, can we all agree now, we\u2019re two days removed, can we agree that I was right? Can we agree that that whole thing had nothing to do with immigration now? I mean, you\u2019ve seen what Trump\u2019s tweeted, as the caller points out, you\u2019ve seen what members of Congress, the Democrats are saying. They know they didn\u2019t get a deal and they know they didn\u2019t get an agreement from Trump for a clean DACA bill. They know that. That thing was exactly what I said it was.<\/p>\n
But there\u2019s something else that happened in that besides Trump saying nothing or one thing or three things and then tweeting the opposite. He got those Democrats in that room on the record, if they want to use it, in future TV ads or negotiation. He got Steny and he got Durbin and he got DiFi and a bunch of other Democrats agreeing with the concept of border security. They don\u2019t want any part of border security in any final deal. They will give it lip service, and they will say that they of course support border security. But Trump got them to commit to it.<\/p>\n
Now, you could say, “Well, that doesn\u2019t matter, Rush, because nobody\u2019s gonna be able to hold Trump so what he said.” That\u2019s the point, Trump didn\u2019t say anything, and yet there are all kinds of people that thought Trump was ready to sell \u2019em out. CNN\u2019s still running that story, by the way. I just saw it. CNN is still running the story: Conservatives holding on tight, very, very worried Trump\u2019s getting ready to sell them out on Iran and immigration. And that meeting was for nothing more than what I said.<\/p>\n
And, by the way, it was to refute the Wolff book. And now, you know, the number of, quote, unquote, journalists in the, quote, unquote, journalism community abandoning Wolff, that number keeps growing. This guy is really being hammered. (interruption) Too late for what? But now they\u2019re doing stories that Wolff is lying, that he hasn\u2019t sold a million, that it\u2019s not possible for Wolff to have sold a million.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s a company called BookScan that actually monitors sales and they found the biggest day so far for that book\u2019s been 29,000. The biggest day. There haven\u2019t been enough days here for that book to sell a million. They\u2019re guessing 250,000 e-version, Kindle, iBooks, that kind of thing. But the point is, his buddies in the media are the ones throwing shade at them.<\/p>\n
