RUSH: Grab audio sound bite number 15. This is a former head honcho at MI6. This is the U.K. version of the CIA. MI5 is the U.K. version of the FBI. This guy\u2019s name is John Sawers. He was being interviewed by Christiane Amanpour about Trump\u2019s tenure as president. Remember this guy is a Brit, establishment. He may be as well be the big Labor Democrat in the country. But he ran MI6 for a while, and Christiane Amanpour says, “You think Donald Trump is the biggest threat to the world?”<\/p>\n

\"\"SAWERS: (haltingly) President Trump is bringing a new approach to America\u2019s role in the world. He has said himself he wants to put America first. Most American presidents, the last 70-odd years, have seen America\u2019s role as the stabilizer of the international system, as the guarantor of peace and stability, and, as far as possible, open markets. And that is what we used to call American exceptionalism, that America was exceptional because it wasn\u2019t simply pursuing its national interests.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What a crock!<\/p>\n

SAWERS: We now have an America which is primarily — in fact, overwhelming — pursuing its national interests. So it\u2019s the end of American exceptionalism. Now, other countries have to adapt to that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: (impression) “We now have an America which is primarily — in fact, overwhelming — pursuing its national interests.” We can\u2019t have that. We can\u2019t have that. That\u2019s “the end of American exceptionalism.” Do you believe this crap? This, folks, this is exactly what McCain was talking about when he said he couldn\u2019t understand why we would abandon the world leadership and order that we created 75 years ago. This! “He has said himself he wants to put America first.” We can\u2019t have that! That\u2019s not American exceptionalism. We can\u2019t have that! “Most American presidents, the last 70-odd years, have seen America\u2019s role as the stabilizer of the international system, as the guarantor of peace and stability, and,” when any of us need American money, then give it, “as far as possible, open markets.” When it\u2019s not possible, screw open markets. “And that is what we used to call American exceptionalism…”<\/p>\n
