RUSH: Thank you, sir. I appreciate that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Of course. It\u2019s been time well spent. Two TIME Magazine covers this past week will just add to — I know I can\u2019t add to the host\u2019s comments on the subject, but you spoke about religion and politics. This will clarify how liberals think about religion and politics. The first magazine cover was Mitt Romney. ‘Sure, he looks presidential, but what does he really believe?\u2019 One week later, the very next —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Taking a slap at his religion, his Mormonism, of course.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Of course. The next cover, it\u2019s a color picture of Algore looking off in the distance at, probably, a shaky future, and the caption is: ‘The Last Temptation of Al Gore.\u2019 You know the reference.<\/p>\n

RUSH: The Last Temptation of Algore?<\/p>\n

CALLER: They were talking about his temptation to run.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: But they\u2019re obviously quoting the Martin Scorcese film.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, look, there was a time — and it\u2019s long ago, but there was a time — back when TIME Magazine still had, oh, vestiges of good old Henry Luce, that it was a down-the-middle magazine. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: The media has always been pro-Democrats, but… They\u2019ve thrown all that to the wind now. It\u2019s an agenda-oriented magazine just like every other Drive-By Media organ these days is.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I never read it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s because of me. Look, if I hadn\u2019t come along the liberal media bias wouldn\u2019t be as bad as it is. It would still be there. They\u2019re pulling their hair out all over the place. They\u2019ve always chosen sides, always. Now they\u2019re making it obvious.<\/p>\n

CALLER: They genuflect to Algore as the savior of the world, and if they ever ran a cover that said, ‘Obama, what does he really believe?\u2019 or, ‘Hillary, what does she really believe?\u2019 can you imagine the hell that would break loose in mainstream media?<\/p>\n

RUSH: It would never occur to them.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Of course it wouldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It would never occur to them.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Of course it wouldn\u2019t. (laughing) Yes, I know that.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You remember TIME Magazine ran this cover of me: ‘Is Rush Limbaugh Good for America?\u2019 <\/p>\n

CALLER: Exactly.<\/p>\n

RUSH: There was too much democracy out there, and the following week they did this cover story on Castro and his efforts to rebuild his lovely, island paradise nation. They called it ‘the lion in winter.\u2019<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, let me certify on my behalf that you have been good for me, and I have converted a number of people to your radio show, and some of them like it, and some of them don\u2019t. So…<\/p>\n

RUSH: I appreciate that. I am a national treasure. I did not call myself that. I was called that by a couple people in e-mail, and I thought, ‘You know, if they\u2019re going to honor me by calling me that in e-mail, then I\u2019m going to recognize it.\u2019<\/p>\n

CALLER: Of course.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s absolutely right. John, thanks so much.<\/p>\n

CALLER: It\u2019s a great honor talking to you, Rush. Take care.<\/p>\n
