RUSH: Right. We were all taught that.<\/p>\n
CALLER: (chuckles)<\/p>\n
CALLER: I did. We battled a lot based on politics. We battled about global warming and all sorts of things. She\u2019s Finnish, so —<\/p>\n RUSH: What grade are you in, Patrick? What grade are you in?<\/p>\n CALLER: I\u2019m in eighth right now.<\/p>\n RUSH: And you battled with your teacher?<\/p>\n CALLER: Correct.<\/p>\n RUSH: You battled with her about global warming, climate change, and Thanksgiving and so forth? How does it go.<\/p>\n CALLER: Yep.<\/p>\n RUSH: How does it go? How does it end up? Does she respect you?<\/p>\n CALLER: (chuckles) Eventually. I don\u2019t know. One day, she just stopped. I found some NASA posts. My friends and I always made power points for fun, and one day we decided to make a PowerPoint on global warming to try and prove to ourselves and to her whether or not it was real, and we stumbled upon some NASA posts that said that from 2012 to 2013 the polar ice caps had expanded 533,000 square miles.<\/p>\n RUSH: That\u2019s true! They grew. They expanded. The ice expanded. You know, you\u2019re in a unique situation here, because you ended up knowing more than your teacher knew about this.<\/p>\n CALLER: Yeah. It was kind of funny because on a lot of issues that she would just briefly bring up, we would just ask her for proof or where did she get this from, and she would just completely change the subject and ignore your question.<\/p>\n RUSH: Because she couldn\u2019t prove it?<\/p>\n CALLER: She could not.<\/p>\n RUSH: She couldn\u2019t?<\/p>\n CALLER: Well, a lot of times it was, “Oh, I heard it on the radio.”<\/p>\n RUSH: Oh, yeah. That was meant to discredit you. Is she a nice person despite all this?<\/p>\n RUSH: Good teacher. Well, that\u2019s all that matters. You know, there are all kinds of teachers that are good or bad, but, you know, like this teacher\u2019s obviously inspiring you to learn on your own —<\/p>\n CALLER: She is.<\/p>\n RUSH: — and to maybe not take seriously everything she says. That\u2019s all good. You\u2019re learning to research, you\u2019re learning to think on your own. You\u2019re learning to be skeptical of things you\u2019re told. That\u2019s excellent. That\u2019s excellent. I can tell you that you have read these books.<\/p>\n CALLER: (chuckling)<\/p>\n RUSH: I can tell these rubbed off on you. One of the best things that ever happened to you, Patrick, was running into my books. I can hear it. I can hear it in your voice.<\/p>\n CALLER: I wanted to thank you for one more thing. A few years ago when it was just the first two books — the Brave Pilgrims and American Patriots —<\/p>\n RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n CALLER: — my father and I emailed you. I was like 9 at this point, in third grade, and me and my dad decided to email you, and you ended up sending us 30 copies of each book with the audio CDs and all sorts of cool stuff.<\/p>\n RUSH: For your school?<\/p>\n CALLER: Yeah. My mom owns a little teeny, tiny private school, and that\u2019s where I used to go.<\/p>\n RUSH: Oh, this is great. I\u2019m glad that you\u2019re one of the recipients. We hear from a lot of people that like the books, Patrick, and we hear from teachers, and they tell us stories that they either can\u2019t find the books or that they\u2019re not allowed to have them or that they can\u2019t afford to have as many as they would like.<\/p>\n CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n RUSH: And we have a whole department where we try to take care of hardship cases where people would like mass copies to be able to distribute and give away and can\u2019t afford it. So I\u2019m sure that\u2019s where your request ended up, and I\u2019m glad we were able to do that for you.<\/p>\n CALLER: Yes. Thanks.<\/p>\n RUSH: But you\u2019re really great to call and thank me for this. I can\u2019t tell you how much that means.<\/p>\n RUSH: Well, this is why we feel fortunate to be able to help, \u2019cause people, Patrick, people like you have a chance to read these and learn from them.
