On Facebook, Ms. Mele\u2019s daughter Sophie said the shop would never host a \u201cCoffee-with-a-Cop\u201d event. She said cops are \u201cbullies,\u201d and she is \u201cadamantly anti-police.\u201d<\/p>\n
After getting pushback online she doubled down. She said police uphold \u201can unjust system,\u201d and commit \u201cmurder without consequence.\u201d A firestorm erupted.<\/p>\n
Ms. Mele fired her daughter and wrote an apology to the police. She called Sophie\u2019s remarks \u201cdistasteful, biased, and hateful.\u201d She said the work police officers do is heroic. And that her daughter should never have linked her own personal views to the business.<\/p>\n
None of that quelled the storm. Some of the comments posted by those offended by Sophie\u2019s anti-cop posts were just as adamant as Sophie\u2019s posting.<\/p>\n
