CALLER: Hey, I wanted to ask you something. Now, I voted for Corey Stewart over Ed Gillespie in this primary for the governorship, and my man lost. What do I do as a voter when Northam and Ed Gillespie are part of the same team against the people? How is it that I can vote for either one?<\/p>\n
RUSH: You mean they\u2019re both establishment types?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Both establishment and have been proven establishment. What do I do as a voter at that point? Do I just, like the NFL players, take a knee and not vote out of protest?<\/p>\n
RUSH: That\u2019s an interesting question. You know what? (sigh) Virginia is… I mean, it\u2019s outside the Beltway. But for all intents and purposes, Virginia is the establishment. That\u2019s the problem. You get to the northern Virginia suburbs, and you may as well be talking about D.C. So you are kind of stuck, because it\u2019s likely that whatever party tosses candidates up there, they are gonna be establishment. They\u2019re gonna be wired. They\u2019re gonna be connected to K Street or the parties, like Gillespie.<\/p>\n

Gillespie worked in the Bush White House. He\u2019s worked at the RNC. I mean, he\u2019s a good guy. I\u2019ve met Gillespie, I know him, but he is what you say. I mean, he\u2019s right out of the Republican establishment. As to what you should do? (chuckles) Man, that\u2019s a great question, because it\u2019s not good civics to tell you not to vote. I think you have to… (sigh) This isn\u2019t gonna satisfy you. You just have to make the assessment. You go in knowing that you do not have an optimal choice, so you have to pick the lesser of your choices. “Pick the lesser of the two evils” is the old standby phrase, and then hope you end up being surprised.<\/p>\n
CALLER: But don\u2019t you think that those days are over with where we\u2019re forced the pick the lesser of two evils? I thought Trump came in and changed everything.<\/p>\n
RUSH: What option do you have? If somebody doesn\u2019t mount a write-in campaign, there\u2019s not gonna be a serious opportunity for somebody else to win. So what option do you really have?<\/p>\n
CALLER: And, by the way, Rush, Charlottesville north is all D.C. establishment territory. I live down in Lynchburg, and we down here in southern Virginia actually vote right and we live right, and we want nothing to do with Charlottesville north.<\/p>\n
RUSH: I understand. Charlottesville, University of Virginia. I didn\u2019t mean exclusively the northern Virginia suburbs. But I\u2019m just saying when you get up there, you\u2019re not even really in Virginia. You are geographically, but you may as well be surrounded by people that work, live, breathe, and derive their actual essence from the Washington, D.C., Treasury.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n
RUSH: And once they do that, there\u2019s nothing you can do.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, thank you, Rush.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, I feel bad. I feel… I don\u2019t have an answer for the guy. “Lesser of two evils.” I mean, I know — and I am the mayor of Realville, and he lives where he lives — and you know, I could flippantly say, “Move,” but I wouldn\u2019t say that. I understand the frustration, especially now, when there is a wave happening out there of anti-establishmentism, and you want to play. You know, you want to participate in it, and the two choices you have in Virginia don\u2019t give you the chance. So I totally get the frustration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
