RUSH: A couple recent examples of political correctness. I don\u2019t know how many of you use Google Maps, but Google Maps just issued an update to the app that they had to withdraw in less than 24 hours. Google Maps included a new feature. And let me describe it for you.<\/p>\n

\"\"Let\u2019s say you\u2019re in Manhattan and you need to go from point A to point B, and you put those addresses in, and it calculates your route and tells us how long it\u2019s gonna take you to get there if you\u2019re driving or if you take public transit or if you\u2019re walking. They added something new. They put a little bubble next to the map showing your route that said if you walk, you\u2019ll burn this many calories. If you walk these eight blocks, it said you\u2019ll burn 35 calories. And then it listed the caloric content of several foods, like a piece-of-pie has 250 calories or whatever.<\/p>\n

They had to pull the app. They had to pull that upgrade. They had to pull the feature out of it in less than 24 hours because of outrage that erupted on Twitter. Now, why do you think the outrage happened? People were made to feel nervous and ashamed. Google thought they were fat. Why else would Google put how many calories I\u2019ll burn by walking if they didn\u2019t think I was fat?<\/p>\n

Google was accused of fat shaming. Google was accused of embarrassing people. Google was accused of pointing out people\u2019s flaws. And Google had to remove that one little tab — it was a bubble — that showed how many calories you would burn if you walked the route.<\/p>\n

Do you believe this? Do you believe we have this much insecurity lurking on Twitter that people could be shocked and outraged and made to feel scared and pointed out and shamed simply because of the amount of calories you would burn if you walked the route happened to be displayed? Google thought they were performing a service. Look, I got no beef with Google. Don\u2019t misunderstand. I couldn\u2019t care less one way or the other. I don\u2019t use Google Maps. Not the point.<\/p>\n

Who are these people? What in the world has gotten into them that they cannot look at a bubble that shows how many calories they would burn by walking eight blocks without having an overreaction demanding that the app fix itself and take that bit of information out of it because it\u2019s fat shaming. I mean, it just boggles the mind.<\/p>\n

And then the second example. You know, Apple has a new vice president of diversity. She is an African-American woman by the name of — it\u2019s a hyphenated name, three names. Denise Young-Smith. She is African-American. She\u2019s the company\u2019s vice president of diversity and inclusion. Let me ask you people who are older than 40, what would you have thought if in your twenties and thirties your company had named somebody to the position of vice president of diversity and inclusion?<\/p>\n

\"\"I\u2019ll tell you what my reaction would be. Why are you throwing money away on that instead of giving everybody raises? What do you need a VP of diversity for? Isn\u2019t is that part of the corporate culture anyway? It\u2019s like why do companies need vice president of environmental policy? All of this is a sop, all of it\u2019s a sop to the media. All of its a sop to left-wing, politically correct snowflakes.<\/p>\n

Anyway, let me tell you what this woman did. She did something that\u2019s actually very smart, filled with common sense, but it violated every tenet of diversity. And in the process, Denise Young-Smith inadvertently forced everybody to admit what diversity really is. These people that run around talking about America\u2019s strength is in our diversity, and what do they mean by that.<\/p>\n

Well, let me just tell you. It has nothing to merit. It has nothing to do with meeting and setting high expectations. It\u2019s strictly skin color. It\u2019s strictly gender and gender orientation, sexual orientation. That\u2019s all it is.<\/p>\n

So this woman was at a diversity conference. I guess that\u2019s what vice presidents of diversity and inclusion do, that\u2019s what they spend their time at, they go to conferences where diversity and inclusion are discussed. And she made the point that there can be 12 — now, remember, she\u2019s African-American, and she\u2019s at a diversity conference. And since she works at Apple, everybody\u2019s expecting the latest and greatest, totally 100 percent politically correct.<\/p>\n

She said there could be 12 white, blue-eyed, blond men in a room, and they\u2019re going to be diverse, too, because they\u2019re gonna bring a different life experience and life perspective to the conversation. Each one of them is different, and they\u2019re gonna have their own take, and even in such an arrangement, you could have diversity. The internet blew up! This woman was held up as an example of the absolute worst example of somebody as a vice president of diversity and that Apple needed to fire her.<\/p>\n

\"\"So she did what everybody would expect and she apologized and she begged forgiveness. She said that this is obviously insensitive and it was erroneous and she wasn\u2019t aware, didn\u2019t know what had come over her, but she will not make this mistake again.<\/p>\n

Now, in point of fact she was right the first time, because diversity should have nothing to do with skin color. But when we\u2019re talking about liberalism and the left, it\u2019s all surface stuff. Because in their world, everybody\u2019s supposed to think the same, and everybody\u2019s supposed to be the same, and everybody\u2019s supposed to have the same outcomes. The only thing that makes them different is their skin color. And since there are fewer African-Americans and fewer whatever in America, since the white is still the majority, they must always pay the price.<\/p>\n

And what Denise Young-Smith did was openly and inadvertently cause all of these politically correct numskulls to admit that diversity has nothing to do with anything substantive. It has everything to do with things people have no control over. And so the next time you hear people say, “Well, what makes America great is our diversity,” it doesn\u2019t. The diversity they\u2019re talking about, skin color and racial diversity or sexual orientation diversity or gender diversity doesn\u2019t mean diddly squad in terms of substance, because that first statement is exactly right on the money.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m trying to figure out how she got hired if she thinks this way because Apple, I mean, they lead the league in politically correct statements, behavior, thinking and so forth. And this clearly does not fall under the rubric of political correctness. Twelve white blue-eyed blond men in a room and they\u2019re going to be diverse too because they\u2019re going to bring a different life experience and life perspective to the conversation.<\/p>\n

Now, if Apple thinks that having a diversity of life experiences and background is important, fine. But then why use skin color, national origin, or sex as a definition of what people grew up to be? How in the world is that — what a skimpy and what a narrow and what a limiting way to define people! By virtue of the color of their skin. And look who\u2019s doing all this.
