RUSH: Now to the phones. This is Terrence in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Hello, sir.CALLER: Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m depressed. I have a problem.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I live in Cambridge. They do not like Christmas, and I\u2019m surrounded by liberals. Their depression is really starting to affect my outlook on Christmas. I don\u2019t feel like I can get into it this year, it\u2019s so depressing. I get “Happy Holidays,” if that, wherever I go. I don\u2019t know how to respond to this. It gets to the point to — I\u2019m surrounded by liberals, and as we all know their outlook on life —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, unless you\u2019re prepared to move, that is a challenge you\u2019re going to have living where you live.<\/p>\n

CALLER: See, that\u2019s the problem. I\u2019m not prepared to move.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m kind of stuck here, but —<\/p>\n

RUSH: All right, then you need some therapy, and I\u2019m going to give you one of the best pieces of advice I have ever given in my life. It\u2019s tough to do but it\u2019s fun to try.<\/p>\n

CALLER: All right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You won\u2019t succeed all the time at it, but when you succeed, you will feel liberated like you can\u2019t believe, and it\u2019s very simple. You are allowing other people, many of whom you don\u2019t even know, to affect how you feel about yourself. You are giving so much power to a bunch of people that you have no respect for in the first place.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You have to learn — we all have to learn — how to make our own selves happy by virtue of our own existence, being, things that we do, pursuing our passions. If you need to get in the Christmas spirit, to see a bunch of outside things like Christmas trees or if you have people saying, “Merry Christmas out there, Terrence! Great to see you,” and that\u2019s not happening, then you\u2019re not going to enjoy it. If you can get yourself out of the circumstance where you need that kind of feedback from people. I know community is a big part of Christmas. It really is. But you can make it what you want inside your own home with your family.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. Well —<\/p>\n

RUSH: I agree. Look it, liberals are depressing as all get out. They never laugh; they\u2019re never happy.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. Even when I say “Merry Christmas” to someone, it\u2019s a startled look they get on their face, and it\u2019s almost like an aggressive response, like, “Oh, yeah. Merry Christmas.” You know what I mean? Like, they\u2019re angry about it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You offended them!<\/p>\n

CALLER: (groans)<\/p>\n

RUSH: You have offended them. See, they\u2019re also granting you way too much power, but what to affect the way they feel. The difference between you and them — and I\u2019m dead serious about this. When you offend them, they will go and do whatever they have to, wherever, to make sure you don\u2019t say whatever you say to offend them. They want to shut you up. When they offend you, you call me, but you don\u2019t go to government. You\u2019re not trying to force your way on them like they are trying to force their way on you.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: The reason you feel depressed is because they have systematically over the years done their best to take Christmas, the spirit and everything associated with it out of public life.<\/p>\n

CALLER: (Groans) Well, I mean, you know what, I\u2019m not going to stop saying, “Merry Christmas,” to anyone. In fact, I\u2019m going to up the ante and continue to say it even more.<\/p>\n

RUSH: And smile when you do and be the nicest, most cheerful, joyful person in the world you can muster when you say it. If they can\u2019t accept good cheer, and you being nice, don\u2019t make it your problem. It\u2019s theirs.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Thanks, Rush. Merry Christmas.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Same to you. They\u2019re telling you more about who they are than they are telling you who you are. All right. Now, here\u2019s a great illustration here of liberals and Christmas: Nancy Pelosi. This is how screwed up they are. She had her press conference yesterday announcing her agenda for the 110th Congress, and she tries to wish everybody a Merry Christmas at the end of her press conference.<\/p>\n

PELOSI: I wish you all a very happy holiday, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, whatever it is you\u2019re celebrating, I wish you well with it.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I am celebrating your eventual defeat as speaker in 2008. Merry Christmas to you, too.<\/p>\n
