CALLER: I\u2019m doing great. What an honor, Rush.<\/p>\n

CALLER: So excited to talk to you.<\/p>\n
RUSH: I appreciate that. Thank you very much.<\/p>\n
CALLER: So my comment is —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Yes.<\/p>\n

CALLER: — I don\u2019t understand why everyone seems to have forgotten James Comey\u2019s May 3rd testimony. He was asked by one of the female senators if the administration could stop an investigation, and he said in theory, yes, but it hasn\u2019t happened in his experience, because it would be a very big deal. That seems to have dropped off the radar. I mean, that was while he was still FBI director —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n
CALLER: — and way after he supposedly felt this terrible pressure from Trump. So what\u2019s up with that?<\/p>\n
RUSH: I\u2019m not sure I understand what the question is.<\/p>\n
CALLER: The question is, why is nobody talking about it? Why is no one defending the president based on Comey\u2019s own words?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay, I\u2019m confused. You say Comey says that the investigation can never be stopped.<\/p>\n
CALLER: No. He actually said, “In theory, yes.” But he said it\u2019s never happened in his experience because, you know, it would be a very big deal. In other words, it could be done but it would be wrong and he\u2019s never had it happen. And it was televised at the time, and a few commenters, you know, said, “Well, there,” you know. And then he was fired a few days later, and suddenly, you know, from never having happened, suddenly he was just pressured. And it seems like everyone has forgotten that testimony.<\/p>\n
RUSH: I don\u2019t know what you\u2019re asking me. I\u2019m confused. Wait a minute. Here\u2019s what it says on the screen that you wanted to talk about. “Senator asked him if president was able to stop investigation. Comey said yes, in theory, but it never happened.” Okay, what\u2019s so important about that to remember?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Because it clears Trump of obstruction. He said no one —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Ah.<\/p>\n
CALLER: — never asked him or pressured him.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, see, this is the reason for the confusion. We spent some time yesterday. I explained why Trump didn\u2019t obstruct based on Comey, but not this. I see what you\u2019re getting at now. You\u2019re saying that Trump couldn\u2019t have obstructed because Comey says he could shut down the investigation. Let me tell you what happened. That\u2019s still a gray area. What did happen is that on February 14th, dinner in the White House with Comey, only Comey and Trump, and that is where Comey alleges that Trump asks him to end the thing on Flynn. “Can you maybe let it go. Can you see yourself clear, can you see it clear to let it go.”<\/p>\n
Comey did not tell anybody at the time that was obstruction. He didn\u2019t feel like he\u2019d been obstructed. He didn\u2019t think anything. Because six weeks later on March 30th he said for the third time Trump is not a suspect, and he told Congress. So on Valentine\u2019s Day, Trump allegedly obstructs Comey, except Comey didn\u2019t report that to anybody and didn\u2019t think it. Only after Comey got fired did he change his story and say, “I was really worried. I felt like Trump was trying to obstruct my investigation.”<\/p>\n
The real explanation is, there wasn\u2019t any obstruction because Trump only did it once. He didn\u2019t follow up. He didn\u2019t continue to pressure Comey, “By the way, when are you gonna left the Flynn thing go? I told you I wanted to let it go.” That\u2019s another point. Time is dwindling here. He invested the decision in Comey. He said, “I hope you will find a way to see clear.” He didn\u2019t say, “Drop it, Comey. Just let it go.” He didn\u2019t do that.<\/p>\n
He left it to Comey\u2019s decision. There wasn\u2019t any obstruction. And there isn\u2019t any evidence of the money laundering! Folks, even now, I don\u2019t care what you\u2019re seeing in the news, there is no evidence of anything that Trump has done, related to leaks or not, that you\u2019re reading about in the paper today.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay. I finally understand what the caller was saying. It\u2019s a good point. She was talking about the Comey testimony before the senator from Hawaii. She said nobody had ever asked him to stop an investigation, presidents don\u2019t do that, and of course that\u2019s long after Trump had allegedly told Comey to let the Flynn thing go.
