Hello, sir. Nice to have you on the program.<\/line><BR\/>CALLER: Hi, Rush. Just a quick comment on the FEMA fraud, the $1.4 billion.<\/line><BR\/>RUSH: Oh, ho-ho-ho. Yes.<\/line><BR\/>CALLER: It fired me up this morning to see the typical approach from the news media relative to: it\u2019s all FEMA\u2019s fault. I would just hope someplace we see the other side of that and hang some skins on the fence for the people who stole <emphasize>my <\/emphasize>tax dollars under the guise of receiving aid fraudulently.<\/line><BR\/><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/live-rush-limbaugh.pantheonsite.io\/wp-content\/uploads\/katrina_fraud_is_typical_big_government.Par.0002.ImageFile.jpg\" width=\"204\" height=\"210\" class=\"alignleft\"\/>RUSH: Come on! You have unreal expectations.<\/line><BR\/>CALLER: Well &#8212;<\/line><BR\/>RUSH: I have the story here in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers. I\u2019ve got two stories. Some of things that were done with the money. (Laughing.) I\u2019m sorry for laughing, and you don\u2019t sound too agitated about it because tell me the truth. You\u2019re really not that surprised, are you?<\/line><BR\/>CALLER: (Chuckled.) I\u2019m not surprised, but &#8220;agitated&#8221; isn\u2019t the right description of how I feel.<\/line><BR\/>RUSH: Wow. Okay, it\u2019s even worse than that.<\/line><BR\/>CALLER: Yes, sir.<\/line><BR\/>RUSH: All right. Thanks for the call. Let\u2019s go through some of the details here. As the New York Post writes about it: &#8220;In a shocking rip-off of taxpayers, federal hurricane relief bought &#8216;Girls Gone Wild\u2019 videos, Caribbean vacations and French champagne, as thousands of brazen scam artists bilked the government out of $1.4 billion&#8230; Although the aid was intended to shelter and clothe thousands of devastated [<emphasize>familias<\/emphasize>] from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the audit to be presented to Congress today shows a widespread criminal splurge of debauchery and excess while the feds were asleep at the switch,&#8221; and that\u2019s his point, it\u2019s the feds\u2019 fault!<\/line><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s FEMA\u2019s fault! All right, let\u2019s stop there. Let\u2019s just stop there. So much to say about this. All this money, anybody with <emphasize>half <\/emphasize>a brain who\u2019s been paying attention to this kind of thing for a <emphasize>short <\/emphasize>period of time knows and knew full-well that when you start throwing <emphasize>gobs <\/emphasize>of money at people that they\u2019re going to take it and spend it on things unrelated to the intention. They\u2019re not going to go out and get housing. They\u2019re going to go out and buy goodies. They\u2019re going to go out and buy things that all humanity wants. The way they define enjoying life, improving their life: a &#8216;Girls Gone Wild\u2019 video, a vacation in the Dominican, a bottle of champagne instead of a bottle of ripple &#8212; or maybe Mogen David.<\/p>\n<p> I don\u2019t want to be too insulting here, but the bottom line is that this is human nature, and anybody &#8212; we get so caught up in, &#8216;Well, they\u2019re victims!\u2019 (gasp) &#8216;They\u2019re victims, and we must show compassion. Here! Here, take this money,\u2019 and we look the other way, and we say, &#8216;We are good people.\u2019 Then we hear about the fraud. &#8216;Outrageous! How can this possibly be? How could the government let it happen?\u2019 How could the government let it happen! If you have that idea, then you ought to be against every spending program that comes down the pike, because this is no different than any of them. You think this fraud is bad, try Medicare fraud. You think this fraud is bad, try welfare fraud. You think this fraud is bad, try Aid to Dependent Children. We had that. Try that fraud. <\/p>\n<p>You think this fraud\u2019s bad, they\u2019re advertising for fraud from the food stamp program. You think this fraud\u2019s bad, take a look at <emphasize>any big government spending program<\/emphasize>, and you get serious about the fraud and the waste that\u2019s involved, and it would <emphasize>make you puke<\/emphasize>. It would make you sick. In a sense, it <emphasize>is <\/emphasize>the government\u2019s fault, folks. In a sense it\u2019s the government\u2019s fault for not realizing what is going to happen when this kind of money in these size piles is thrown at people. Anybody knows, that has a family &#8212; well, you can\u2019t even say that, because, no, everybody <emphasize>doesn\u2019t <\/emphasize>know it. But let\u2019s say that you have a recalcitrant child, and the child is failing and not doing something that the child should be doing that you\u2019ve instructed the child to do.<\/p>\n<p>You say, &#8216;Okay, son or daughter, I\u2019m going to give you this. I\u2019m going to give you a thousand bucks and I want you to go spend this on books and tuition and so forth,\u2019 whatever. I\u2019m just picking a figure here, and then you come to find out later, went to Blockbuster, went to some movies. You spend the money for them if you want to make sure it gets spent right. If the government\u2019s actually going to be in charge of shelter and clothing and so forth, then the government <emphasize>never <\/emphasize>gives the recipients the money. The recipients get the money, there\u2019s no control over it after that. But, see, that\u2019s not the point of the program. This is what you have to learn about big government. The point is not to make sure it\u2019s spent wisely. The point is to spend it because spending it equals: &#8216;Compassion.\u2019 Spending it equals: &#8216;We are good people.\u2019 Spending it equals: &#8216;We care.\u2019 Spending it equals: &#8216;They\u2019ll vote for us!\u2019 There\u2019s no intention to be responsible about this.
