RUSH: Despite my best efforts, ladies and gentlemen, this deal continues to be miscast and misrepresented, not only by the school teacher of Dawn\u2019s young daughter, ‘Mommy! Mommy!\u2019 Dawn\u2019s daughter came home from school yesterday, ‘Mommy! Mommy! Why is George Bush selling our ports to terrorists?\u2019 (sigh) It still out there and that\u2019s still how people refer to this. The bumper sticker is: ‘We\u2019re Selling Our Ports to Terrorists.\u2019 We\u2019re not. We\u2019re not selling anything. We don\u2019t own this, folks. The British own what is being sold and it\u2019s not ports. We\u2019re talking terminals — and in all of New York, and in all of New Jersey, it\u2019s one terminal.<\/p>\n

‘I know, Rush, but that\u2019s where it starts.\u2019<\/p>\n

So I can imagine all of the reactions that you\u2019re going to have. But we\u2019re not selling anything.<\/p>\n

‘But why can\u2019t an American company do it?\u2019<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t ask me. I don\u2019t know why Americans don\u2019t want to do this business. it\u2019s probably because they don\u2019t want to deal with the unions. I don\u2019t know. That\u2019s why the Hong Kong people have not tried to by this terminal, folks. Hong Kong doesn\u2019t want to mess with the myriad regulations and security problems and challenges they have and the hoops they have to jump through and the unions. They don\u2019t want to deal with it. The biggest port operator in the whole world is the Hong Kong bunch. I mean, why am I not in the widget business? Somebody should be in the widget business in America! Why don\u2019t I go into it? Because I have no interest. I couldn\u2019t care less. It\u2019s not enough to oppose the deal and say, ‘Why can\u2019t an American company do this?\u2019 Find me an American company! By the way, we do own quite a few of the facilities and they are all run by your beloved government and bureaucracies, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the port authority of this or that, the stevedores, da-da-da, of this and that. It\u2019s this particular business that Americans are not in.<\/p>\n

Like Americans don\u2019t make sewing machines anymore; we don\u2019t make buggies as in the horse and buggy days, and we don\u2019t make buggy whips. I don\u2019t know why Americans don\u2019t do this. Americans also don\u2019t like to do their own yard work anymore, either! Americans don\u2019t like to be butlers. You ever go try to hire a butler? You can\u2019t find an American butler and you wouldn\u2019t want one if you did because the American butler would end up hating you after two months saying, ‘How come he has all this and I don\u2019t have anything?\u2019 (interruption) I don\u2019t have a butler, Mr. Snerdley. That\u2019s not the point. If you want a butler, you\u2019re going to be hiring a Brit, or you\u2019re going to be hiring somebody that does it on a cruise ship. There are a lot of jobs Americans won\u2019t do. Should we just close up the country? (sigh) Back, ladies and gentlemen. (crumpling up paper) I don\u2019t want to hit you with too much logic. I know you\u2019re already dazzled. I need to parse this out better.<\/p>\n
