The guest was Senator Kennedy, but we\u2019re not going to put Senator Kennedy on the bite, I don\u2019t believe. What\u2019s funny about this is that Bill Schneider reports that the majority of the American people support Judge Alito\u2019s nomination. Then, after reporting that, Schneider explains to Democrats what questions they have to raise to change that. He even went and checked other networks\u2019 polls. So here\u2019s the bite.<\/line><BR\/> BILL SCHNEIDER: They said they were &#8220;inclined to support the Senate confirmation&#8221; of Judge Alito, 49%, just shy of a majority. Why are they inclined to support him? Because a majority of Americans, 52%, believe that Judge Alito\u2019s views are in the mainstream. What would it take to convince Americans that he\u2019s too extreme? People were asked, &#8220;Suppose you\u2019re convinced that after his confirmation hearings, Judge Alito would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade?&#8221; Then, in that case, a majority said that they would not support his confirmation: 56% say no. And I just checked in a poll just release bid Washington Post and the ABC News Poll, Americans said, &#8220;If Judge Alito is confirmed, do you think he would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade?&#8221; Only 18% of Americans right now say they think he would vote to overturn. That\u2019s a very low number. That number might change. That\u2019s what we\u2019re looking for during these confirmation hearings.<\/line><BR\/>RUSH: Well, so there you have it! Bill Schneider reports the bad news for Democrats and tells them what they\u2019ve gotta go do to change it. <emphasize>You gotta change it. The public doesn\u2019t think he\u2019s going to overturn Roe vs. Wade. You gotta convince them he\u2019s gonna overturn Roe vs. Wade. That\u2019s what you\u2019ve got to, the polling data shows.<\/emphasize> So the focus of the story was, &#8220;Uh-oh. Well, we got to report the good news here, but we\u2019re gonna try to give some help.&#8221; Kennedy was a guest on the show.
