RUSH: Let me be honest with you about something here. I feel the need to apologize for this program today. I\u2019m not going to make any excuses but I just don\u2019t feel like this program is up to the usual standards today, and this bothers me. I come in here each and every day hoping to “meet and surpass expectations of the audience on a daily basis,” and I just don\u2019t think I\u2019ve done it today, and the two main reasons: I still have not shaken what turns out to be a bad bronchial infection that I\u2019ve had since last week that I thought was the flu because there was fever, but it wasn\u2019t the flu. So I finally relented. I got hold of a doctor (name not going to be mentioned here for his privacy sake) and I got one of those &lt;a target=new href=”http:\/\/www.asthmastory.com\/meds.asp”>Z-packs&lt;\/a>. So I started taking that today. Antibiotics. As a result, over the weekend I literally could not concentrate. So I didn\u2019t spend a whole lot of time as I usually do on the weekends doing show prep. At the same time, if I can be honest — and I don\u2019t know any other way to be — these hearings just bore the heck out of me today. They just do. It\u2019s nothing new. It\u2019s so predictable. <\/line> I just feel like I\u2019m not doing my job if I say, “How many times have I told you about Ted Kennedy?” It\u2019s no mystery to people in this audience who he is, what he\u2019s saying, the subterfuges and techniques that he uses, and yet I feel compelled to do it nevertheless, because I know some of you have expectations of hearing that. In addition, there are new people tuning in each and every minute on this program all over the world, and so I felt compelled to talk about something I really have not much interest in and that\u2019s these hearings. Well, it\u2019s not that I don\u2019t have interest in the outcome, it\u2019s just today. This is just the opening statements. This is just a bunch of huffing and puffing and, “We\u2019re going to blow the house down.” It\u2019s a bunch of lying. One of the things that rubs me wrong, the roughest, is the toughest to deal with in the human character and condescension and arrogance — and pathological lying is. People that know they\u2019re lying but they don\u2019t care because as long as they believe it, it\u2019s true, and that\u2019s it. I don\u2019t care whether it\u2019s Schumer; I don\u2019t care whether it\u2019s Ted Kennedy; I don\u2019t care whether it\u2019s Dick Durbin. These people are reprobates as far as I\u2019m concerned, and to have to sit here and have to dissect what they\u2019re saying and point out, just… It\u2019s… I don\u2019t know. I\u2019ve tried to do a little cramming this morning to come in and give you some information on what I thought they would say about Alito and some of these claims about his \u201985 job application and his membership in this little group at Princeton. So far I\u2019ve been right. That\u2019s been the primary area that they\u2019ve been hitting the guy. But if this program has not seemed up to its usual snuff, so to speak, today, then I apologize.<\/line>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/line>RUSH: Here\u2019s Jim in Blaine, Washington<\/a>. Hello, sir. Nice to have you on the EIB Network.<\/line>CALLER: How you doing, Rush?<\/line>RUSH: Fine, sir. Thank you.<\/line>CALLER: Mega dittos squared from one of the few Republicans in the state of Washington.<\/line>RUSH: (Laughing.)<\/line>CALLER: (Laughing.)<\/line>RUSH: Great to hear from you.<\/line>CALLER: Yeah. A real pleasure to talk to you. It\u2019s an honor. Listen, Rush, I was watching the news this morning on Fox, and it now appears — or at least the Democrats are headed towards — stopping this Alito nomination at any cost, and one of the costs that they\u2019re willing to risk is the filibuster. So I guess my question is: With the total ineffectiveness of Bill Frist leading the Senate Republicans and the group of renegade RINOs led by McCain, do you think that they can pull off a filibuster?<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: It remains to be seen. I don\u2019t think so because I don\u2019t think the Republicans in that gang of 14 are going to hang tough on this. I don\u2019t think “Vice President” Graham will stick. I don\u2019t think DeWine will stick. I don\u2019t think, if they ever get to this. I\u2019m not sure the Democrats should try it. I think that they\u2019re just huffing and puffing. I don\u2019t think you\u2019ve got enough Democrats that would support it. There are some Democrats on the record saying they don\u2019t support the idea of a filibuster. Look it, it\u2019s desperation time here in the Democratic Party. You have to understand that everything they do — and I\u2019m not saying that none of it works; I\u2019m not saying it doesn\u2019t have an effect, but I\u2019m telling you that everything they\u2019re doing with the NSA spying and all the prison stuff, it\u2019s desperation. If you don\u2019t think so, somebody explain to me, somebody tell me, the political strategy in aligning your party with the enemy <\/emphasize>of this country when it comes to Al-Qaeda and worldwide terrorism. <\/line>Explain that to me. That\u2019s exactly what they\u2019ve done. They have positioned themselves so that anything good in this country, economically or what have you, is bad for them. Anything bad <\/emphasize>that happens in this country as good <\/emphasize>for them. They\u2019ve done this on purpose. Now, I think there\u2019s utter desperation happening. I\u2019ve told why. These people are born as Democrats and liberals with an entitlement to power. They think that\u2019s their birthright. They\u2019ve been denied this power since 1994, and they are fit to be tied — and of course they can\u2019t be blames themselves. They\u2019re the elites! So they have to blame voting machines, hanging chads, fraud, all these other things, elections being stolen from them and the stupidity of the American people in order to explain this. I think as you get desperate you do stupid things and I think a bunch of them are talking about filibustering, but I don\u2019t think there are enough Democrats that support it — and Vice President Graham yesterday said on Fox, no way does the Gang of 14 support it. So let \u2019em try it. I, frankly, wish they would. This filibuster deal should have been dealt with last year before this gang of 14 put this deal together. <\/line> This filibuster needs to happen or needs to be killed and needs to be voted on so that the Democrats don\u2019t try it. Until that happens, it\u2019s always going to be out there, and people are always going to be saying, “You think the Democrats will filibuster?” I want them to try it and I want them to backfire. Not necessarily this case. It\u2019s wishful thinking here, but I I\u2019m sorry, folks. (sigh) I don\u2019t care what they\u2019re going to do. I really don\u2019t care what the Democrats are going to do. Now, tomorrow I might. But when it comes to this, this specific thing, and I don\u2019t want anybody to misunderstand. It\u2019s not that I don\u2019t consider them seriously. It\u2019s not that I don\u2019t take them. It\u2019s not that I think we don\u2019t have to deal with them seriously. We do, and nobody can accuse this program of taking them lightly. They are partially where they are because of this program, we\u2019re very proud of that, and don\u2019t mistake what I\u2019m saying for boredom. I\u2019m not bored with talking about the Democrats. It\u2019s just in this case it\u2019s the same old thing. “We\u2019re going to get X with John Roberts,” and just the opposite, and the Democrats, if you watch the Sunday shows yesterday — I watched a little bit, to know. <\/line>I mean, every one of them had a panel of these Democrat senators talking about what they\u2019re going to do. I\u2019ve heard it all before. The media gets together with these people, and it\u2019s all wishful thinking, and the reporting is what they hope <\/emphasize>will happen, not what is <\/emphasize>happening. In the meantime, these people are utterly destroying themselves, if you ask me. In fact, Joe Klein, at TIME Magazine<\/a> — no shrinking-violet conservative Joe Klein, and no friend of this program and me, Joe Klein — has a piece in the latest issue of TIME Magazine. “How to Stay Out of Power. Why Liberal Democrats are Playing Too Fast and Too Loose with Issues of War and Peace.” I\u2019m telling you there are… Anybody wonder why you don\u2019t see James Carville. I get this question all over the place, “How come…? When I was out in LA playing golf, “Rush, where\u2019s Carville? How come Carville is not out there,” and I don\u2019t know, but I can guess, and it\u2019s just a pure wild guess, but I will bet you that there are a bunch of Democrats who don\u2019t want to have an official association with the leaders of this party and the direction they\u2019re taking it right now, because they also want politics futures, and they don\u2019t want to go over the falls or over the cliff with this bunch. <\/line>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: By the way, folks, don\u2019t misunderstand me. I\u2019m talking about today in the cities opening pontificating baboonish statements — I\u2019m sorry buffoonish <\/emphasize>statements — from these Democrats. I know what they\u2019re going to say. The fireworks will start once the questioning of Alito starts, and that\u2019s when we get laser-like focus. But this stuff today is just a bunch of pontificating from a bunch of blowhards around whom Alito is going to run things in these hearings like Judge Roberts did. You know, you go into something thinking you\u2019re the smartest guy in the room and you\u2019re the most arrogant, condescending guy, and you don\u2019t even know it when you\u2019ve been made an utter fool of — and it\u2019s going to happen again to Ted Kennedy. It\u2019s going to happen to Dianne Feinstein. It\u2019s going to happen to Dick Durbin. It\u2019s going to happen to Patrick Leahy and we\u2019re going to point it all out when it does and going to go, “Yip yip yip yip yahoo!” We\u2019re going to cheer. But I\u2019m not going to sit here and act with baited breath like I\u2019m sitting on the edge of my chair, “Oh, no! Oh, no! The Democrats are talking about Alito.” I couldn\u2019t care less! I really couldn\u2019t care less. I don\u2019t care what they say about me; I don\u2019t care what they say about him, because in due course we\u2019re going to deal with it. <\/line>END TRANSCRIPT<\/line><\/p>\n
