Have you ever heard about what\u2019s going on at Yale? Folks, Yale students have unionized and are conducting a hunger strike where they can eat. And they\u2019re being applauded as courageous and valorous. Tweets galore saying even though they can eat, this is commitment, this is serious. These are doctoral students.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-231502\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FB-042817-Yale-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FB-042817-Yale-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FB-042817-Yale.jpg 425w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Do you know a doctoral student is paid $30,000 a year, gets free health care and room and board, and they\u2019re on strike at Yale, doctoral students, they\u2019re on strike at Yale because they\u2019re undercompensated so they\u2019ve gone on a hunger strike where they can eat. When they\u2019re barely able to walk, when they have been on the hunger for seven or eight hours, and they can\u2019t take another step. They can eat.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re still calling it a hunger strike and they wonder why we think something\u2019s wrong in higher education. A hunger strike where you can eat. This isn\u2019t even a symbolic hunger strike. And these people think that people in Mississippi are stupid. These people think people in Kansas are stupid.<\/p>\n<p>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: All right, so I blew it by a half hour. Trump\u2019s speech is at 1:30, not two o\u2019clock, at the NRA in Atlanta. All right, here\u2019s that story. It\u2019s from the Washington Free Beacon. &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/freebeacon.com\/culture\/yale-grad-students-go-symbolic-hunger-strike-theyre-allowed-eat\/\">Yale Grad Students Go on \u2018Symbolic\u2019 Hunger Strike Where They\u2019re Allowed to Eat<\/a> &#8212; A group of Yale University graduate students announced Tuesday evening that they would be undertaking a hunger strike to pressure the administration into granting them better union benefits. The strike is taking place in front of University President Peter Salovey\u2019s home. &#8216;Yale wants to make us wait and wait and wait \u2026 until we give up and go away,\u2019 the eight members of the graduate student union Local 33 announced.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-231526\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/RushEducation.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"585\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/RushEducation.jpg 585w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/RushEducation-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/>When I ran through these stats, I could see shock on the faces of staff on the other side of the glass here. Let me run through this again here. Yale doctoral students &#8212; for those of you in Rio Linda, they\u2019re not studying to be doctors like medical doctors. These are postgraduate scholarship degrees, like doctor of philosophy or Doctor of Democracy, or what have you. Like I have my PhD in democracy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yale doctoral students currently earn a stipend $30,000 a year, receive free health care, and have their $40,000 tuition paid in full,&#8221; and that\u2019s not enough. Free health care, $30,000-a-year stipend, and $40,000 tuition paid for. &#8220;The university administration said in a statement that they understood the students concerns, but &#8216;strongly [urge] that students not put their health at risk or encourage others to do so.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Come on, how do you put your health at risk when you go on a hunger strike and you can eat? &#8220;As it turns out, the hunger strike might not put anyone\u2019s health in peril. According to a pamphlet posted on Twitter by a former Yale student, the hunger strike is &#8216;symbolic\u2019 and protesters can leave and get food when they can no longer go on.&#8221; (laughing) When they can no longer go on? It doesn\u2019t take much for liberals to think they\u2019re acting heroically, does it? It doesn\u2019t take much for people on the left to think they\u2019re really courageous, does it? They\u2019re allowed to eat when they can no longer go on.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a tweet that has since been deleted that sums this up perfectly, some guy named Dimitri Halikias. &#8220;The Yale grad student union is holding a &#8216;symbolic\u2019 hunger strike. Still inspirational.&#8221; He\u2019s being hammered for this tweet and has taken it down.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Halikias later protected his account, but by then the tweet had spread and others on social media mocked the &#8216;sacrifice\u2019 of the Yale grad students.&#8221; Well, at least there\u2019s that. At least there was only one tweet that was praising these people for courageous behavior and inspirational behavior.
