The first sound bite today that they gave me here on the roster is me back on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/daily\/2017\/02\/15\/what-trump-should-do-push-the-domestic-agenda\/\">February 15th<\/a> talking about how Trump could overcome all this opposition by staying focused on the domestic agenda. If he would just do that, that\u2019s the way to keep his base.<\/p>\n<p>And not only keep his base, that\u2019s the way to expand the base. That\u2019s the way, because that\u2019s why he was elected. And I was happy to see that that\u2019s what that speech last night was. It was a home run in that regard. It was a home run in every aspect of it, and apparently a lot of people agree. &#8220;More than 3 in 4 Americans who tuned in reacted positively to President Trump\u2019s Tuesday night address to Congress, according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/news\/2017-03-01\/us-warms-trump-3-4-americans-approve-trump-address\">CNN\/ORC poll<\/a>.&#8221; It\u2019s 78%. Notice the headline: &#8220;More Than 3 in 4&#8230;&#8221; How about just use the number?<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hPWS-CN_Xi0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s 78%, and let\u2019s round it off to 80. Since you people are trying to diminish it, let\u2019s compensate for your attempt to diminish. Let\u2019s just call it 80% give thumbs up to Trump\u2019s speech. &#8220;Among those who watched the speech, 57% said they had a &#8216;very positive\u2019 response, while another 21% described their reaction as &#8216;somewhat positive.'&#8221; It was 509 Americans who watched Trump\u2019s speech, with a margin of error of 4.5 points.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;CNN polled about 8% more Republicans than Democrats, and the news network noted that people who watch political speeches, like Trump\u2019s on Tuesday, tend to be more receptive toward the speaker right off the bat.&#8221; Is that why it happened? Oh, that\u2019s it! It has nothing to do with Trump. No, no, no. It\u2019s all about viewing patterns that people have. CNN\u2019s reporting this on their own website. They\u2019re clearly disappointed. They essentially report the same numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters says, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-trump-obamacare-idUSKBN1683F9\">Trump Gives Nod to Republican Tax-Credit Proposal on Obamacare <\/a>&#8212; U.S. President Donald Trump backed the use of tax credits to help people purchase health insurance in a speech to Congress on Tuesday, the first time he signaled support for a key component of House Republican proposals to replace Obamacare.&#8221; Now, that did happen. The media is reporting that Trump adopted aspects of Obamacare in his speech last night (well, CNN is), and that isn\u2019t what happened. I\u2019m not&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It seems to me that I remember Trump mentioning tax credits in the past, but I can\u2019t be sure, and there\u2019s been a lot of words uttered in the past. But it doesn\u2019t matter. The thing that he hit the hardest when it came to Obamacare last night &#8212; other than, how about in their face calling it a disaster? How about in their face calling it a miserable failure? I mean, if they\u2019re gonna sit down, keep giving \u2019em a reason to sit down. So he did. But the thing that he was most passionate about, the thing that he was most pointed about in terms of solutions was&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Oh. This is doubly important. He talked about the need for allowing people to buy health insurance across state lines, and he hammered that last night, and he emphasized that. You know what? Just now going through this, I remember there was another story yesterday. Just like the McMaster story, his chairman, National Security Council. There was news all day yesterday that McMaster had succeeded in removing the phrase &#8220;radical Islamic terrorists&#8221; from the speech, and the Drive-Bys were ecstatic, and the Never Trumpers were ecstatic because they thought an adult finally had prevailed with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>And then they started writing stories, &#8220;How long will McMaster last now? You don\u2019t get to dispute the chief like this in the open and survive,&#8221; and then Trump gives the speech, and he practically shouts the phrase. And the same thing with this. There was a story &#8212; and I\u2019m sorry; I can\u2019t remember who, what, when, where, why on this, because I absorb so much in my voluminous, omnivorous pursuit of information here.<\/p>\n<p>But there was a story yesterday that alluded to the fact that Trump might go soft on that, too, in an effort to get a deal. (chuckles) And last night, once again, he practically shouts that any fix for Obamacare must include allowing people to buy insurance across state lines. Now, one member of the media, I think, accurately saw what happened last night for awhile. Major Garrett, CBS. This was after the address to the joint session, and this is Major Garrett talking about what everybody just saw.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-223737\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Major-Garrett.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Major-Garrett.jpg 417w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Major-Garrett-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>GARRETT: Having traveled the country and attended more than 75 Trump rallies &#8212; Scott, and everyone else on the panel &#8212; I can tell you my sense is Trump supporters looking at this speech said to themselves in their living rooms or from wherever they were watching, &#8220;That\u2019s exactly what we voted for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>VOICE: Exactly.<\/p>\n<p>GARRETT: &#8220;We wanted to see someone who came to that rostrum in the House of Representatives and acted and sounds like a change agent, who talked about America and the centrality of the American experience and defending that experience and those aspirations, as defined by Trump in the campaign and set before Congress according to his agenda.&#8221; My sense is Trump\u2019s supporters looked at that speech and said to themselves, &#8220;Yes! That\u2019s what we voted for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Exactly. But that\u2019s not new. The reason I\u2019m going back to this is because I made a big deal of this in the first hour, and I think this is really right. I think it\u2019s very important. The Drive-Bys think they saw something new last night. And the Democrats, I\u2019m sure, think they saw something new because the Democrats have really not paid attention to Trump. And do not pooh-pooh this. You think, &#8220;How could they miss it?&#8221; Very easy. All they do&#8230; Why did Hillary think she was gonna win in a landslide even at nine o\u2019clock on election night?<\/p>\n<p>Because all she knew was what the media was telling her. The media lied to her with their phony polls. The media gave Hillary\u2019s campaign the impression she was gonna win bigger than any president had ever won, that Trump was a joke, that Trump doesn\u2019t have a prayer. Nate Silver\u2019s out there, &#8220;Hillary has a 95% chance of being elected!&#8221; They listened to the media. They go to church by watching the media. So they know of Trump by virtue of what they see of Trump in the media. I\u2019m convinced that&#8230; I don\u2019t know how many days&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-223133\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/00-DriveByRobots-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"585\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/00-DriveByRobots-1.jpg 585w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/00-DriveByRobots-1-300x138.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/>Do you think Hillary ever watched a Trump rally? I betcha she didn\u2019t. She probably had somebody else do it and report to her, and what do you think she said about it? &#8220;Yeah, Hillary, we got nothing to worry about. Yeah, they were big crowds. But, man, half of them have no teeth. They\u2019re showing up in pickups, and they got gun racks in the back, and don\u2019t speak English very well. I mean, it\u2019s Deliverance, Hillary. You\u2019ve got nothing to worry about there.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I mean, half of them probably don\u2019t even know how to vote, Hillary.&#8221; That\u2019s what she was probably hearing about it. (interruption) Do you dispute that? I think it\u2019s right on the money, and I think when a Trump rally happens&#8230; Do you think Chuck Schumer actually watched one? Do you think Debbie &#8220;Blabbermouth&#8221; Schultz actually watched one? I don\u2019t think they watch \u2019em. I think they listen to what their media says. It\u2019s their comfort zone. So last night, they see what they think is a brand-new Trump.<\/p>\n<p>But Trump\u2019s voters, Major Garrett\u2019s right, that\u2019s exactly why they elected the guy, but it\u2019s not different from what he was on the campaign trail. You know what Trump voter knows? A Trump voter knows that their man is an intelligent, sensitive, responsible human being and that addressing a joint session of Congress is a different event, different circumstance than a campaign rally in an airplane hangar. And Trump\u2019s an adult enough to know this.<\/p>\n<p>So of course they\u2019re gonna have different tones and they\u2019re gonna have different characteristics. You don\u2019t deliver a State of the Union speech in an airplane hangar at a campaign rally. By the same token, you don\u2019t do a campaign rally to a joint session of Congress in the chamber of the House of Representatives. But these guys in the media and all these witnesses are acting like, &#8220;Whoa, we\u2019ve never seen this guy before.&#8221; But Major Garrett\u2019s right, as I am. Everybody who voted for Trump, this is exactly who they voted for. There was nothing new last night. There wasn\u2019t any new in content.<\/p>\n<p>I even had some people &#8212; get this &#8212; I had some pessimists emailing me, &#8220;Well, this is nothing more than a campaign speech. My God, Trump can\u2019t even read a teleprompter. Oh, my God, we\u2019re sunk,&#8221; and stuff like this. I said, &#8220;Are you kidding? This is a grand-slam home run. Look where this speech is happening.&#8221; Of course, if you watch every speech Trump makes, this is gonna be old hat. That\u2019s my point. To people that don\u2019t watch Trump, deride Trump, impugn Trump, this was new, they\u2019d never seen this before. Yet everybody that voted for Trump has seen it so many times that they couldn\u2019t wait for him to be elected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u2019m not hearing anything new. This is a campaign rally.&#8221; So there are all kinds of interpretations of this. But the point is that no matter whether the original reaction was upbeat, positive, home run, or a little bit pessimistic, there wasn\u2019t somebody that nobody had ever seen last night except for the Drive-By Media and except for the Democrat Party, and that ought to speak volumes to you. I mean, these are the people whose job it is, according to them, to defend and protect the Constitution. They are there to defend and protect the country. And they don\u2019t even know who Donald Trump is, even now.<\/p>\n<p>They have created a caricature, they have created a narrative about the guy, and that\u2019s who he is. And so when that narrative is not reflected when Trump does something, then, whoa, Trump\u2019s pulled a fast one on \u2019em. (laughing) No. It\u2019s their own bigotry and prejudice. So Major Garrett gets it right. I mentioned that we had countless people say Trump became president tonight. Now, I know what they meant by that. But he actually became president on January 20th, when he opened the oath was office and became sworn. That\u2019s when he became president, but these people, &#8220;Well, you know, he finally woke up, seemed to be presidential last night.&#8221;<br \/>\nHere\u2019s a montage of how that sounded.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-223703\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TRUMPPOINTSATYOU-300x236.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TRUMPPOINTSATYOU-300x236.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rushlimbaugh.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/TRUMPPOINTSATYOU.jpg 594w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>CHRIS WALLACE: (outdoor noise) I feel like tonight, Donald Trump became the president of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>ALEX CASTELLANOS: (b-roll noise) I think he became president tonight.<\/p>\n<p>WOLF BLITZER: A very polished performance by the president of the United States&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>CHRIS STIREWALT: He did sound like the president, look like the president, act like the president.<\/p>\n<p>GAYLE KING: (outdoor noise) Dare we say that for the first time, I\u2019m hearing people say he looked and sounded presidential.<\/p>\n<p>ANA NAVARRO: &#8230;sounded presidential for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>MATT GUTMAN: Wow, he sounded so presidential.<\/p>\n<p>ANDREA MITCHELL: The tone, the presidential demeanor&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>MITCH MCCONNELL: Donald Trump did indeed become presidential tonight.<\/p>\n<p>TOM BROKAW: (b-roll noise) Tonight, this is easily the most presidential that he\u2019s been.<\/p>\n<p>DANA PERINO: The best speech I have ever seen him give. This was so presidential.<\/p>\n<p>VAN JONES: He became president of the United States in that moment. Period. More on him here in just a second. Now, I realize &#8212; not nitpicking here &#8212; many of these people are trying to be complimentary. And I don\u2019t want to make too big a deal about this, but once again, note how many people report, conclude, say the same thing. And they were not watching each other. They were on their own networks. Now, they may get emails &#8212; Chris Wallace was the first I heard say it, and it was not rehearsed with him. He was on a riff and his rap just took him to that conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>And I wonder, after he said how many tweets and how many emails went out, &#8220;Chris Wallace just said,&#8221; and other Drive-Bys were, &#8220;Yeah, yeah, that sounds good, I\u2019ll use it myself.&#8221; You don\u2019t think it happens that way? Okay. Well, all right.
