The race for the White House should be about leadership, and leadership requires that one help heal the wounds of Vietnam, not reopen them; that one help identify the positive things that we learned about ourselves and about our Nation, not play to the divisions and differences of that crucible of our generation. We do not need to divide America over who served and how.&#8221;<\/line><BR\/><strong>He closed:<\/strong> &#8220;We do not need more division. We certainly do not need something as complex and emotional as Vietnam reduced to simple campaign rhetoric. What has been said has been said, Mr. President, but I hope and pray we will put it behind us and go forward in a constructive spirit for the good of our party and the good of our country.&#8221; <\/line><BR\/>Somebody needs to get this speech over to Terry McAuliffe at the DNC and to the media. Does Terry not remember that Michael Moore\u2019s charge that Bush was a &#8220;deserter&#8221; sunk Wesley Clark? Someone has to roll the audio of McAuliffe as I did in the audio link below, and debunk his unfounded charge that Bush went AWOL.<\/line><\/p>\n<p><BR\/>I rolled audio of Terry\u2019s attacks on George W. Bush\u2019s service in the National Guard ? service for which he received an honorable discharge. Put quite simply for the mainstream media (who won\u2019t come to this conclusion on their own), John F. Kerry condemned the very politicization of the Vietnam War in 1992 that he\u2019s engaging in today. Again, we have to get this to the press ? because on their own, they\u2019d never see the significance of this speech.<\/line><BR\/>This is like the GOP trying to find someone to destroy FDR in the middle of World War Two. I mean, who was the last Democrat war hero? You\u2019d have to say George Marshall or John McCain. McAuliffe claimed he was responding to RNC-head Ed Gillespie\u2019s charge that he\u2019s &#8220;the John Wilkes Booth of character assassination&#8221; by saying he\u2019ll make an issue of it if the GOP keeps citing Kerry\u2019s record. They think bringing up Kerry\u2019s throwing somebody else\u2019s medals over the fence, is dirty politics.
