RUSH:\u00a0 Take a look at some economic news here, folks, just to show you the dramatic attitudinal shift that has taken place in America since the election.\u00a0 First story here from Bloomberg:\u00a0 “U.S. Small-Business Optimism Index Surges by Most Since 1980<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

What happened in 1980, folks?\u00a0 Do you remember what happened in 1980?\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 Three gold stars for the staff on the other side of the glass.\u00a0 That was the year that Ronaldus Magnus was elected.\u00a0 Now, isn\u2019t it interesting and consistent that the U.S. Small Business Optimism Index has surged by the most it has surged since 1980.<\/p>\n

Details.\u00a0 “Optimism among America\u2019s small businesses soared in December –” that\u2019s post-election “– by the most since 1980 as expectations about the economy\u2019s prospects improved dramatically in the aftermath of the presidential election. The National Federation of Independent Business\u2019s index jumped 7.4 points last month to 105.8, the highest since the end of 2004, from 98.4.<\/p>\n

“The share of business owners who say now is a good time to expand is three times the average of the current expansion, according to the NFIB\u2019s data. More companies also said they plan to increase investment and keep hiring, which reflects optimism surrounding President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s plans of spurring the economy through deregulation, tax reform and infrastructure spending.”<\/p>\n

Now, this is important, because growing jobs — we\u2019ve been focused with Trump on big businesses and big companies not moving manufacturing plants or moving them back.\u00a0 All that\u2019s great and important, but small business, as everybody knows by now, is where the majority of jobs in America are.\u00a0 And the small business engine is what has been puttering along.<\/p>\n

Small business is where so many people have been losing Obamacare.\u00a0 Small business is where so many people\u2019s jobs have been converted to part time to accommodate silly and ridiculous regulations and restrictions in Obamacare.\u00a0 Now, these people clearly, these small businesspeople — and this is very important here — I think one of the reasons why this index has jumped is that small business owners are fully expecting Obamacare to go by the wayside.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Now, the concept of repealing and replacing Obamacare, they\u2019re already starting to muddy the waters with this, which was predictable.\u00a0 They\u2019re making it much harder than it needs to be up on Capitol Hill.\u00a0 The people on Capitol Hill, in the House and Senate — do not doubt me on this — still have not gotten their arms around what happened in this election.\u00a0 They still haven\u2019t been able to come to grips with what this election really meant, who made it happen, and what the expectations are.\u00a0 They are the establishment; they are insiders; there\u2019s a way of the world there.\u00a0 And it was rejected by voters in this country.<\/p>\n

People Inside the Beltway, look, in one way you have to cut \u2019em slack; it\u2019s the only thing they know.\u00a0 The way they do business in crafting legislation is the only thing they know.\u00a0 So when you start — and part and parcel of that — let me tell you what the biggest fear the Republicans on Capitol Hill had in both chambers.\u00a0 Obamacare is now an entitlement.\u00a0 And that means that there\u2019s a lot of Santa Claus involved here.<\/p>\n

There are a lot of people getting free health care because their\u2019s is being subsidized.\u00a0 And the Republicans right now are getting cold feet in many place.\u00a0 Not everywhere, but in enough places.\u00a0 “Oh, my God, what happens to us in two years if we take away an entitlement?”\u00a0 It\u2019s the same standard, predictable thinking that we knew was gonna happen.\u00a0 And they\u2019re making this whole business of repeal and replace a whole lot harder than it needs to be.<\/p>\n

The people that made this change in this country, the people that voted for Donald Trump, they believed what they heard.\u00a0 They believed it when Trump said that he was gonna repeal it and get rid of it and replace it.\u00a0 They believed other Republicans who said it.\u00a0 It is clear that they believed it by looking at this survey.\u00a0 One of the reasons I am convinced that there\u2019s such optimism among small business owners is they really think that albatross is gonna be removed from their neck, and it better be.<\/p>\n

There better not be any withdrawal back to the, “Well, you know, we really need to rethink this, we\u2019re gonna do this, and we can\u2019t repeal it if we don\u2019t have anything to replace it with, and right now we don\u2019t have a replacement.”\u00a0 And all these calls, “We need to slow down.”\u00a0 No, no, no, no, no!\u00a0 That\u2019s not the way to do this.\u00a0 Slowdown is exactly why this election happened.\u00a0 All of this slowdown is nothing more than an excuse for not changing it.<\/p>\n

And the excuse for not changing it is not rolling up the sleeves and doing the hard work.\u00a0 “It\u2019s just too hard, it\u2019s too many pitfalls,” and these are the kinds of things that are starting to happen, and they better not waffle on this.\u00a0 The tendency is to waffle.\u00a0 The tendency is to not do anything.\u00a0 The tendency is to make surface changes to make it look like things are being done but nothing in the end actually of substance changes.\u00a0 And this is where Trump as president is going to have to have a big presence.<\/p>\n

And his legislative aides, his liaisons that work with people on Capitol Hill from the White House or wherever he happens to be are gonna have to be on the case, \u2019cause the natural tendency, the natural tendency in Washington is when change like this comes up is to not do it.<\/p>\n

Oh, they\u2019ll gladly add things.\u00a0 “Oh, can\u2019t wait, oh, we need to build. Fine, where do I sign?\u00a0 Where do I vote?”\u00a0 But taking something away that might cause them problems, in their minds anyway, the next election. So this is a key element.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>And another story here from CNBC.\u00a0 This is actually sourced at Deutsche Bank.\u00a0 “Trump\u2019s Plans Could Double US GDP Growth by 2018.”\u00a0 That\u2019s just another year.\u00a0 Let me give you a pull quote from this story.\u00a0 Remember, now, the headline:\u00a0 “Trump\u2019s Plans Could Double US GDP Growth by 2018<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

So over here we got small businesspeople full of optimism, more than they\u2019ve had since 1980, there are specific reasons for it, and the pull quote from this story — this, by the way, the chief economist at Deutsche Bank in a report to the bank\u2019s clients.\u00a0 His name is David Folkerts-Landau.<\/p>\n

He said: “This policy mix,” meaning Trump\u2019s agenda, “has the potential of reigniting productivity growth and raising U.S. growth potential.\u00a0 While Trump introduces higher uncertainty, this is better than the near certainty of the continuation of a mediocre status quo.”<\/p>\n

In other words, even Deutsche Bank now feels free to admit that the worst thing that could have happened would have been Hillary Clinton, the worst thing that could have happened would be a continuation of Obama.\u00a0 Trump may be uncertain or his presidency might have some uncertainty in it, but the optimism contained therein is much more than what would have been the status quo.\u00a0 These are big stories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
