RUSH: — on how to talk to her friends that are pro-Hillary and hate Trump —<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n
RUSH: — and so that\u2019s what Celeste here is talking about. So what\u2019s your comment?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Well, my comment is that I\u2019m dealing this with my three teenage boys. We have twins there, who are sophomores, and a senior. They\u2019re at a small country school. They wear their Trump shirts proudly. We have big signs all over our yard. After the election, the twins have a homeroom class with this young lady, and they are allowed to talk quietly amongst themselves, and she just went off on them because they were talking about Trump and how excited they were that they got in. We have you on as much as we can or we only watch Fox News. So they are very informed.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Hold it. Is this young lady a student or the teacher?<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yeah, she\u2019s a student. She\u2019s a student. She\u2019s in their age-group, and she just went off on them. And this went on for days, and they were just… They didn\u2019t know what to do. And I said, “Well, again, either freedom of speech or just try to ignore her, you know? Try to redirect your conversation to something else.” Well, a few days go by, and she\u2019s decided she\u2019s not standing up for the Pledge of Allegiance, and that just… They lost it. They have a grandfather that\u2019s a veteran, you know, that went to Vietnam. <\/p>\n
They were just so upset. And they came home and they said, you know, she won\u2019t stand for the pledge. Well, apparently they went back and said something, and they got dragged into the principal\u2019s office. And I just don\u2019t know… They don\u2019t want to rock the boat and they don\u2019t want to make a lot of trouble. But I just don\u2019t understand how it is that she can do this, bully them because of who their family voted for and —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Look.<\/p>\n
CALLER: — she can walk away from this and be scot-free.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Look, this is not worth anything. This woman is not… This 15-year-old student is not worth their time.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n RUSH: If they\u2019re gonna engage, just don\u2019t. It isn\u2019t worth it. She\u2019s… They\u2019re not gonna change her mind. It\u2019s just gonna be… Unless they can find a way to have fun with it.<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: But to seriously engage her and make her a project is gonna be a waste of time. If it were me, I would just tell her how ashamed of her I am. <\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: And let it go at that.<\/p>\n CALLER: They\u2019re very passionate about this this year. Everything that they\u2019ve learned along this walk that we\u2019ve taken this last year, and it just really disheartens them that, you know, she can do all of this and say all of this —<\/p>\n RUSH: Hey —<\/p>\n CALLER: — about Hillary —<\/p>\n RUSH: Look, she\u2019s in a school.<\/p>\n CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n RUSH: Tell them that\u2019s life. As long as you\u2019re in a school, people like that student run it.<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: The teachers, the principal, everybody is just like her, and it\u2019s a place that they have to get out of with —<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: — the best grade they can. So it\u2019s not worth it to tackle. I can\u2019t think of a scenario in which it would be worth it unless they want to perfect debate skills, if they\u2019re on the debate team, unless they want to use it as a teachable opportunity or —<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: — a learning opportunity for other things. But in this case, just let time pass and look the other way, because, really, these people are so closed-minded that there isn\u2019t anything they\u2019re gonna be able to do about it.<\/p>\n CALLER: Right. And that\u2019s hard because we\u2019ve always told them to stand up for what they believe in and to have a voice and be confident and it\u2019s hard for them to just sit back and say, okay, I\u2019m gonna take this and I\u2019m an honor student and I\u2019m getting sent up to the principal\u2019s office. It\u2019s been a really rough week on them to try to take this all in —<\/p>\n RUSH: Hey, look, this stuff —<\/p>\n RUSH: — all of it is a learning opportunity. This is a great chance for them to learn that not everybody\u2019s like them. It\u2019s a great chance for them to learn how to deal with this kind of thing. They\u2019re gonna face it all of their lives —<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: — and they\u2019re gonna learn how to make value judgments on just what their time is worth in terms of who they want to give their time to. And this woman isn\u2019t worth it. This other student is not worth it. Now, being called to the principal\u2019s office because of something or other, well, that\u2019s just the way it works.<\/p>\n CALLER: Yeah.<\/p>\n RUSH: It\u2019s a school, and you could go confront the school over it, but you don\u2019t want to do it because you\u2019re afraid they\u2019re gonna dock them and their grades, whatever.<\/p>\n CALLER: Oh, yeah, there will be retaliation and I don\u2019t want that for them. They\u2019re big brother\u2019s about to graduate, and he wants to get out —<\/p>\n RUSH: There are gonna be a lot of battlefields in their lives.<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: And this one\u2019s not even worth taking the field.<\/p>\n CALLER: I wanted your advice because I just didn\u2019t know and they\u2019re really struggling with it, and I just —<\/p>\n RUSH: Well, I know. Here\u2019s the dilemma for you. You\u2019re teaching them to be strong. You\u2019re teaching them to not let anybody intimidate them. You\u2019re teaching them to stand up for what they believe, so they did, and they get called to the principal\u2019s office. And some brain-dead student appears to be prevailing or winning. They\u2019re gonna face this all the time in their lives.<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: Injustice —<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: — and unfairness is everywhere. And how you deal with it and not get distracted by it and not let it take you off your objectives in the rest of your life is the lesson to learn here.<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: I wouldn\u2019t throw any part of my life away for some brain-dead student that doesn\u2019t know what she\u2019s doing or what she thinks.<\/p>\n CALLER: Well, I do appreciative because I want to direct them in the right way to handle this. And then the mother of me wants to go up there and say, “Hey, look,” you know, but I know that that isn\u2019t going to be productive, but for them —<\/p>\n RUSH: Well, here\u2019s the thing. The bottom line — and I\u2019m gonna have to go here — you can\u2019t change her mind, other than what\u2019s the objective here? What is the objective?<\/p>\n CALLER: For them the objective is — I think they want her to understand how proud they are of their country —<\/p>\n RUSH: She knows. She already knows. She knows how they feel.<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n RUSH: There\u2019s much more life way beyond this school. The objective in any school is to get the hell out of it.<\/p>\n CALLER: Absolutely. I know that. We\u2019ll be right back.<\/p>\n BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n RUSH: Say, look, I hate being in a position here of telling all of you parents with these questions about how your kids are treated in schools, not much you can do, I hate having to tell you to be bigger. Let me tell you what has to happen here. The Republicans control all these states after this election. <\/p>\n It\u2019s time for the Republican Party to get in there and clean out these swamps. I mean, individual parents are scared to death of what\u2019s gonna happen to their kids if they try to take on these school boards, the principles, teachers, or what have you, but something should be done institutionally to clean out these schools where all of this mess exists. <\/p>\n We can take 10 calls a day like this. What should I do about the way my kid\u2019s being treated at school \u2019cause he voted for Trump, or I voted for Trump? This kind of stuff is exactly why people vote and why there are elections, and gaining control over grassroots institutions like public school systems is crucial, a crucial part of the agenda going forward here.
