RUSH: “Trump Out-Campaigned Clinton by 50 Percent in Key Battleground States in Final Stretch.”<\/a>  This is an NBC News story.  You know, folks, about this, we had a story earlier about how members of Hillary\u2019s campaign team are now leaking that they were way over confident.  What\u2019s happening is that people on the staff don\u2019t want to take the blame for this.  So they\u2019re starting to leak what was going on at the upper echelon of the campaign with Podesta and with Hillary and so forth. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s clear from what these leakers are saying that there was so much arrogance and overconfidence. They thought Trump had no prayer. They thought the election was over.  Even as late as nine o\u2019clock on election night Hillary thought she was gonna win in a landslide.  And if you go back and look, eight o\u2019clock, if you look at the raw vote totals in many important states at eight o\u2019clock — I\u2019ll never forget this — Hillary was up 10, she was up eight, she was up seven. <\/p>\n

In one or two states Trump was up, but at eight o\u2019clock when the polls had been closed either at that time or for an hour in the Eastern time zone and the count started coming in, the early reporting of the actual counting of votes had Hillary way up, and I\u2019m sure that\u2019s what they were looking at, too.  And it was about 9:30 when it began to change, about 9:30 when enough states began to report that the Drive-Bys, you could see \u2019em start to squirm.  Even on Fox News, they were starting to squirm.  And it was a beautiful thing to watch. <\/line><\/p>\n

So now all of the leaking is going on about what was really going on.  Arrogance, thought they had it in the bag.  And this story on top of it: “Trump Out-Campaigned Clinton by 50 Percent in Key Battleground States in Final Stretch.”  What that means is that Trump spent roughly 50% more time in six key battleground states than Hillary did.  Get this.  Trump made a total of 133 visits to Florida. <\/p>\n

You\u2019ve heard of the word indefatigable?  That\u2019s Trump.  He\u2019s 70 years old, gets up at five in the morning, he sleeps four hours a night, and he doesn\u2019t stop.  Donald Trump has never smoked and he has never consumed adult beverages. <\/p>\n

You know when I first met Donald Trump?  I\u2019ll tell you a little story.  It was 1989.  I moved to New York in July of 1988 and did my first radio show in New York on July 4th and the first national show, this show, on August 1st, 1988.  And I was living in a hotel for the first six months there, which was part of the deal so I could focus on getting the show up and running and not have to worry about finding a place to live and relocating and all that. <\/p>\n

And as the six months came to, I had met some people and one of the people I had met was Senator D\u2019Amato, Al D\u2019Amato, and good friend Dick Torykian of Lazard Freres. And I was telling him my plight that I needed to find someplace to live, preferably in Manhattan, gave the particulars, so D\u2019Amato got involved, somebody called D\u2019Amato.  In fact, it was at dinner at 21 where D\u2019Amato said, “Oh gosh, that\u2019s gonna be easy.  I\u2019ll get this taken care of.”  And the next day Donald Trump called and said, “I understand from Senator D\u2019Amato that you\u2019re looking for an apartment. Why don\u2019t you come by Trump Tower, there\u2019s some vacancies and I want to show them to you.”  And he personally showed me three apartments, homes in Trump Tower. <\/p>\n

He was in full sales mode.  He was telling me the price. He was telling me what was gonna happen in New York real estate, “You can\u2019t afford not to.  You can\u2019t afford not to buy a place here.”  They were beautiful places and they were all furnished.  One was owned by Andrew Lloyd Webber.  It was not for sale, but Trump had permission to show it to me.  And I asked him, I said, “Donald, Mr. Trump, nonsmoking building, right?” <\/p>\n

“Yes.” <\/line><\/p>\n

“These windows don\u2019t open? There\u2019s no way I can smoke cigars in here.” <\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve never smoked.” <\/p>\n

I said, “Oh, really?  Okay.” <\/p>\n

And at one of the places the bedroom was only big enough for a queen size bed.  I said, “That doesn\u2019t look big enough.” <\/p>\n

He said, “What are you gonna do in here besides sleep?” And I kind of cocked my head, looked at him. (laughing) But he was in full sales mode, nice as he could be.  (interruption) Senator D\u2019Amato set this up.  My memory, it could be that he gave me a number to call and the number was Trump, somebody, but whatever, a meeting with me and Trump was set up. Somebody called me and told me to meet Donald Trump at Trump Tower X-amount of time. I went over there and did so and that\u2019s where I first met him.<\/p>\n

He showed me three or four different places, and he said, “Look, if cigars are a deal breaker, I\u2019ll let you use the park on the roof that I use.”  And he had his security guys with me, and he was going through the security in the building and how that\u2019s very important and anything you need. He said, “There\u2019s no better building in New York. You couldn\u2019t find a better place to live,” and he turned to his security guy, “Right, Fred?”  Whatever his name was.  And the security guy, “Right, Mr. Trump, no place better, no place safer.” <\/p>\n

“See what I\u2019m talking about?  You\u2019re not gonna find anyplace better.  You go to that building across the street, it\u2019s nothing, let me tell you, it\u2019s nothing. You can\u2019t get anywhere near what you can get for the price.  You can\u2019t afford not to.”  It was full-court press.  But the deal breaker was no way to smoke cigars in there.  So, yes, I moved to the upper — it was not the Upper West Side.  It was on the border.  I mean, Zabar\u2019s was a trek.  It was west 60th Street.  It was right across the street from Fordham.  Right across the street from Fordham law school, exactly right, and Lincoln Center was right there. <\/p>\n

Great doorman, guy named Otis, walk out the front door, raining, waiting to get in the limo to go to work and Otis would say, “Liquid sunshine today, Mr. Limbaugh, liquid sunshine.”  So, anyway, I saw Trump periodically after that, but he\u2019s never smoked, he works hard, gets up at five a.m., sleeps four hours a night, and this is what people who work for him are gonna have to do. <\/p>\n

You know what I saw?  You know what I saw?  I saw that the Oval Office is gonna be renovated for a full year.  He\u2019s not gonna be able to use the Oval Office.  I think Rove mentioned this on Fox News.  That Obama has resisted renovating the Oval Office as much for security upgrades — They gotta rip the walls out. They gotta put in new bulletproof glass. They gotta upgrade electronics, the technology, and it\u2019s gonna be a full year.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s gonna have to go to the OEO, the Old Executive Office Building across the street which is now called the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which, people don\u2019t know this, the Nixon tapes, the 18 minute gap, are from the Executive Office Building, in addition to the Oval Office.  Many of the tapes that got Nixon in trouble are recorded in the office he had — every president does — over at the Old Executive Office Building. <\/p>\n

The West Wing\u2019s a tiny place, really, when you consider all the people that are in there. It\u2019s really cramped where everybody\u2019s got an office in there, it\u2019s cramped.  And Obama\u2019s renovated it with a new carpet and wallpaper and stuff, but it needs to be completely renovated.  So for the first year of Trump\u2019s four-year term the Oval Office may be unavailable, which I don\u2019t think he\u2019s gonna mind \u2019cause I don\u2019t think he\u2019s gonna want to spend a lot of time in Washington anyway. <\/p>\n

I think he\u2019s gonna shake things up by being in Trump Tower, his offices there. (interruption) Well, his family will use it.  That plane\u2019s used for his business. (interruption) Snerdley said, “What happens to his plane?”  He has to fly Air Force One. That\u2019s a mandatory requirement, security and all that.  The kids, businesspeople would use that plane now and then.  Trump may occasionally be on it as a decoy.  Who knows?  But what do you mean?  They not gonna park it. What do you think, it\u2019s just sit over there in mothballs while Trump\u2019s in Air Force One? <\/line><\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s airplane is a Boeing 757.  He bought it from Paul Allen.  Paul Allen owned that plane originally and Trump bought it from him.  I know this because I had to negotiate with Trump to use the gold paint that he uses on his plane. (chuckles) I did, and it turns out we couldn\u2019t use his gold paint because the plane was a Boeing 727 at the time, and the paint that he was using would not work at altitudes of 50,000 or 51,000 where EIB One can fly.<\/p>\n

So we had to invent a whole new paint, and it\u2019s called Gold Rush. (interruption) No, I didn\u2019t take ownership of it.  It\u2019s Sherwin-Williams.  But Trump had a trademark or something on the gold. It looked like gold leaf on his 727.  It was largely automotive paint, which is okay when you fly at 35,000 feet.  If you go higher than that, it starts to peel off and so forth.  None of this I knew until I wanted to get it and use it. I remember calling him and asking him about it. “What do you want to use it for?” I said, “I just want to put a little strip of it on the plane.”<\/p>\n

“Oh, is that it?  You don\u2019t want to…? You\u2019re not wanting to put ‘TRUMP\u2019 on your plane?”<\/p>\n

“No, no! Nothing like that.”<\/p>\n

“Oh, well, then no problem. Have at it.  I\u2019ll put my people in touch with you give you the number. You can run with it.”<\/p>\n

(laughing) No, I don\u2019t want to Trump on the plane! <\/p>\n

Anyway, where all this started is this story about Trump out-campaigning Hillary.  He went, for example, 133 visits to Florida… This is in the last few weeks: 133 visits to Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Michigan, and Wisconsin.  In that same time period, Hillary visited those states 87 times.  Now, part of that is because I\u2019m sure the Clinton team\u2019s overconfident and thinking it\u2019s in the bag.  But I also think there\u2019s another reason.  They had her on the shelf for preservation. <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think Hillary has the energy that Trump does.  I don\u2019t. She is not well, obviously.  She\u2019s not a hundred percent.  But he earned this, is the point.  And he… It sort of undersells it to call him a hard worker.  That doesn\u2019t quite touch it. But I think he\u2019s got every intention of revising how everything happens in Washington, in terms of how it happens, how fast it happens, the routes you take to make things happen.  If I\u2019m right, it\u2019s gonna be fun to watch \u2019cause people\u2019s heads are gonna be spinning trying to catch up with him.  <\/p>\n

RUSH:  You know that building I lived in that you say is on the Upper West Side? You know who else lived in that building?  Macaulay Culkin lived in that building and Paul Shaffer of the Letterman show lived in that building, and I would take Schaffer some cigars now and then to give to Letterman, and Schaffer would ask, “What, are they poisoned?  Are they gonna blow up?”  I said, “No.  No.”  So he took \u2019em and I got thank-you notes from Letterman.  Those stopped after my first appearance. <\/p>\n

Then what else? Oh, I got an email during the break about the airplane.  What happened was, I wanted to get the gold that was on Trump\u2019s plane so I had “my people,” quote\/unquote, call “his people” to find out what the number for the paint was, and what I got back was, “Trump wants to talk to you about this.  Here is the number.” (laughing)  So I called the number.  “What do you want to use it for?”  It was not in any way suspicious or mad.  He was just curious, and for some reason thought that I wanted to put a T or something on the airplane. <\/line><\/p>\n

I said, “No, no, you\u2019re misinformed. I just want the color.”<\/p>\n

“Oh, yeah? Hell, I\u2019ll have my people give you the number.”  He didn\u2019t say “hell.”  He doesn\u2019t curse, either, that I\u2019ve ever heard.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
