CALLER: Hi, Rush. It\u2019s honor to speak with you today.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I was calling in since this election cycle, I\u2019ve kind of listened to your show quite a bit when I can, and I\u2019ve heard you speak about your Rush Revere series<\/a>. American history has never been one of my strong sides. I\u2019ve never been excited by it. But I realize the fact that my son\u2019s in public school, and he might not get the version of history that I would want him to hear.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Very important.<\/p>\n

<\/a>CALLER: They would have a bit of a slant, I guess I\u2019m saying. But, at any rate, over the weekend I take my wife and my son out, and he\u2019s a big reader, and he knows that if he pushes for a book, old dad will get it for him. So while at one of the chain bookstores, I was looking for yours, one of the Rush Revere series. Of course he comes up to me with the book and he\u2019s picked out and I show him one of the Rush books, and he lights up. I wish you could have seen his face. And, of course, I\u2019m asking him, “Where have you seen this book? How do you know about it?” and his response to me was that his elementary school teacher in public schools is reading it to his class every afternoon.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No!<\/p>\n

CALLER: I thought that was just the wildest thing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, now, we know that that is happening because we hear from these teachers.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right. I remember a caller. Can you recall a couple of weeks ago, I believe, they spoke to donating a book to a library, I believe it was?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And library refused the donation. So I thought that was just the craziest thing I\u2019ve ever heard, but he absolutely lit up. He put the book back that he had chosen for me to purchase the Rush Revere book. So I thought that was the craziest thing I\u2019ve heard, and I thought you might want to hear about it.<\/p>\n

<\/a>RUSH: I do. That is awesome. That was great. What a way to end the busy broadcast day.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Oh, with the turmoil of the day and all you hear is negative news, I thought it was a glimmer of hope in our public school system.<\/p>\n

RUSH: That is… Let me tell you something about American history. I\u2019m kind of like you. I didn\u2019t fully appreciate it when I was young and it was being taught to me, because I didn\u2019t like school and I thought it all was force-fed stuff, and I had a natural resistance to being part of a giant group. “A thousand people are being taught this. I don\u2019t want to learn this. I want to learn something different,” was my reaction to it. And it wasn\u2019t until I got much older that I realized how important history of the country was when it delves with my emerging interests in politics and so forth. So I\u2019m glad that you\u2019ve had it happen, you and your son. It\u2019s just great. I can\u2019t thank you enough for that. So hang on here just a second.
