{"id":214766,"date":"2016-10-26T17:46:49","date_gmt":"2016-10-26T21:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/172.24.32.11\/daily\/2016\/10\/26\/gop_establishment_geniuses_solve_illegal_immigration_just_legalize_it_\/"},"modified":"2017-01-06T13:29:54","modified_gmt":"2017-01-06T18:29:54","slug":"gop_establishment_geniuses_solve_illegal_immigration_just_legalize_it_","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/admin.rushlimbaugh.com\/daily\/2016\/10\/26\/gop_establishment_geniuses_solve_illegal_immigration_just_legalize_it_\/","title":{"rendered":"GOP Establishment Geniuses Solve Illegal Immigration: Just Legalize It!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RUSH: Here\u2019s the New York Times story.&nbsp; This guy\u2019s name is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/10\/26\/business\/economy\/if-immigration-cant-be-stopped-maybe-it-can-be-managed.html\">Eduardo Porter, and he is at the New York Times editorial board<\/a>, and here is his idea on immigration reform.&nbsp; Now, you tell me what you think this is.&nbsp; &#8220;Maybe the answer,&#8221; writes Eduardo Porter of the New York Times, &#8220;instead lies in another direction.&#8221;&nbsp; He doesn\u2019t want a wall.&nbsp; He thinks Trump\u2019s full of it.&nbsp; Any Trump idea is wrong.&nbsp; That\u2019s what he\u2019s countering here.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Maybe the answer, instead, lies in another direction. Rather than building a bigger wall, [his solution] consists of opening a door in the wall we have. The best way,&#8221; he writes, &#8220;to stop illegal immigration may be for Mexico and the United States to create a legal path for low-skill Mexicans seeking work in the United States.&#8221; You follow that?&nbsp; Maybe the solution to illegal immigration is to stop calling it illegal! (laughing) Maybe the solution to illegal immigration is we get together with Mexico and we create a legal path for specifically low-skill Mexicans who want to work in the U.S.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"eZObject_129577\" class=\"img_middle\" align=\"middle\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Illegal-Immigration-Rush-Shocked.jpg\"\/><line xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">And that path&#8230; Think of it as a real path.&nbsp; Think of it as a legal route or whatever.&nbsp; Because he says, isn\u2019t this the objective anyway? Isn\u2019t the reason we\u2019re arguing about this \u2019cause we need this low-skilled labor to do work Americans won\u2019t do, and we are tying ourselves up in knots? So let\u2019s just get together with Mexico and admit that Mexico and the U.S. wants low-skill Mexicans to be able to come to the United States and work.&nbsp; So let\u2019s just say that we\u2019re gonna make that legal!&nbsp; It is kind of like saying that we are going to outlaw fraud by declaring it legal.&nbsp;<\/line><\/p>\n<p>Then he writes, &#8220;&#8216;When I hear &#8220;Secure the border,&#8221; I think that\u2019s great, but it\u2019s not the solution,\u2019 said Carlos Gutierrez, who was commerce secretary under President George W. Bush. &#8216;We need laws that enable us to get the immigrant workers we need for the economy to work and do it in a legal way that doesn\u2019t require employers to resort to a black market.'&#8221; So Eduardo Porter is quoting Carlos Gutierrez in the second part there.&nbsp; He says, &#8220;This might sound like a giveaway to employers seeking to undercut American workers with cheap foreign labor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Neither major party presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton or Mr. Trump, is very likely to embrace the approach in the homestretch of the presidential campaign. And yet it deserves a hearing. In more than half a century, it is the only strategy that has worked.&#8221; So this&#8230; By the way, if this is the stated opinion of somebody at the New York Times editorial board, I guarantee you this thinking reflects establishment thinking and elite thinking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We want those low-skill workers here.&nbsp; Republicans want \u2019em here because cheap labor; the Democrats want \u2019em here for voter registration.&nbsp; So that\u2019s what we\u2019re really talking about here and they\u2019re saying (summarized): We\u2019ve been sidetracked by all this other stuff.&nbsp; It\u2019s really a specific group of people everybody\u2019s talking about: Low-skilled Mexicans.&nbsp; That\u2019s who we want!&nbsp; We need to carve out a path that makes it legal for those people to come here and be hired.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"eZObject_129562\" class=\"img_middle\" align=\"middle\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ObamaImmigrationVoteTodayWeMarch.jpg\"\/><line xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">And that is what, I dare say, any other Republican nominee would have agreed to.&nbsp;<\/line><\/p>\n<p>The Republicans are on board with amnesty as it is in certain ways.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This would be right up their alley.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So this is the simplification of a very complicated issue, and this is called immigration reform, but it\u2019s not.&nbsp; It\u2019s not immigration reform.&nbsp; It\u2019s what Daniel Patrick Moynihan used as his example of defining deviancy down.&nbsp; It\u2019s when you figure out you can\u2019t stop something you don\u2019t like from happening, you just legalize it and say it\u2019s normal, and you give up.&nbsp; So if you can\u2019t stop people robbing 7-Eleven stores you stop making it a crime and call it progress.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Defining deviancy down.&nbsp; In this case, if we can\u2019t come to an agreement as Americans on what to do about illegal immigration, well, let\u2019s just pick out the people we\u2019re talking about here and make \u2019em legal and we\u2019ll call it reform.&nbsp; And it isn\u2019t.&nbsp; It\u2019s giving up.&nbsp; It\u2019s caving in.&nbsp; Actually caving in or giving up\u2019s the wrong way because the people advocating this, it\u2019s exactly what they want.&nbsp; We\u2019d actually have to say this is them winning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"eZObject_129579\" class=\"img_middle\" align=\"middle\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/ObamaAmnestyChalkboard.jpg\"\/><line xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">But my point is, this is exactly the stuff going on out there, the reason Trump has millions and millions and millions of people supporting him.&nbsp; This country\u2019s being given away.&nbsp; It\u2019s about lawlessness.&nbsp; It\u2019s about illegality.&nbsp; It\u2019s about that kind of behavior being rewarded.&nbsp; That\u2019s not how we were raised.&nbsp; That\u2019s not how we were taught to behave.&nbsp; It\u2019s not what we were taught to honor.&nbsp; And when all of this has a quantifiable-negative impact on people who already live here, it can\u2019t be justified in any way, shape, manner, or form.&nbsp;<\/line><\/p>\n<p>So then we\u2019re left to the analysts trying to tell us what\u2019s behind this.&nbsp; And they will tell us, &#8220;They actually think it\u2019ll work, Rush,&#8221; just like the current spin on the Obamacare premiums rising, &#8220;But, Rush, you\u2019re wrong about the fact that they just want a single payer path.&nbsp; You\u2019re wrong about this being a designed failure.&nbsp; These people really thought this would work.&#8221;&nbsp; I don\u2019t subscribe to that because I have, when we come back, some sound bites from Obama himself explaining what the whole game is all about here.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RUSH: Here\u2019s the New York Times story.&nbsp; This guy\u2019s name is Eduardo Porter, and he is at the New York Times editorial board, and here is his idea on immigration reform.&nbsp; Now, you tell me what you think this is.&nbsp; &#8220;Maybe the answer,&#8221; writes Eduardo Porter of the New York Times, &#8220;instead lies in another [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":70,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","ngg_post_thumbnail":0},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v17.6 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>GOP Establishment Geniuses Solve Illegal Immigration: Just Legalize It!
