{"id":214736,"date":"2016-10-24T15:57:30","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T19:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/172.24.32.11\/daily\/2016\/10\/24\/rush_talks_to_governor_mike_pence\/"},"modified":"2016-10-24T15:57:30","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T19:57:30","slug":"rush_talks_to_governor_mike_pence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/admin.rushlimbaugh.com\/daily\/2016\/10\/24\/rush_talks_to_governor_mike_pence\/","title":{"rendered":"Rush Talks to Governor Mike Pence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/live-rush-limbaugh.pantheonsite.io\/videos\/37\/73727\" target=\"_blank\"><img class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/listentoit.jpg\" alt=\"Listen to it Button\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<section xmlns:image=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/image\/\" xmlns:xhtml=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/xhtml\/\" xmlns:custom=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/custom\/\">\n<p>RUSH: Governor Pence has phoned us and without any further ado, I want to welcome him to the program.&nbsp; Governor, you\u2019re calling us from your campaign plane, is that right?<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; I am, Rush.&nbsp; We just landed in North Carolina, got a great day ahead of us, excited to be putting our head down for the final push, driving toward a great victory for the American people on November the 8th.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/live-rush-limbaugh.pantheonsite.io\/videos\/player\/43265\/73731?id=4255636\" width=\"585\" height=\"317\"><\/iframe>RUSH:&nbsp; Well, since I\u2019ve got you, let me just ask you, the subject today has been, I\u2019ve taken phone calls.&nbsp; People are confused, Governor, about the polls.&nbsp; You\u2019ve got two or three polls that show you tied or up one or two, down one or two, but then the big major polls have you down 10, 11, 12.&nbsp; How are you in the campaign dealing with those polls?&nbsp; <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/live-rush-limbaugh.pantheonsite.io\/daily\/2016\/10\/24\/podesta_email_proves_dems_rig_polls\">What do you think of them?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; Well, you know, I think Abraham Lincoln said believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; Yes.<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; So I do believe what I see.&nbsp; What I see out on the campaign trail, Donald Trump and I were in Cleveland on Saturday night, a thunderous crowd, 10,000 people.&nbsp; I was campaigning on my own south of Columbus, Ohio, and you would have been a rock star there, Rush.&nbsp; It\u2019s called the Pumpkin Show.&nbsp; It draws about 50,000 people.&nbsp; I literally got out of the motorcade because we were getting so much applause and so many people cheering. I just jumped out of the car, and the overwhelming support at the Pumpkin Show in Ohio was deeply moving to me.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I mean, people really want change in this country.&nbsp; And, you know, the polls, I think the Rasmussen polls got us up a couple of points. Nationally, I know in North Carolina where I just landed, I think we\u2019re just down one at this point.&nbsp; Look, this race is on.&nbsp; It\u2019s clear to me the national media is trying to build a narrative to support Hillary Clinton by suggesting this thing is all rolled up and nothing could be further from the truth.&nbsp; I\u2019ve never seen the kind of enthusiasm at the grassroots that I see campaigning with or for Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; You know, every time I\u2019ve spoken to you, you\u2019ve commented on that.&nbsp; It sounds like you are really deriving a lot of the energy and optimism you have from these crowds.<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; Well, you really are.&nbsp; And the thing about it is they\u2019re just people from every walk of life.&nbsp; I mean, you\u2019ll have people that own the little small businesses in small towns.&nbsp; You\u2019ll have hardworking people, you know, that, you know, from &#8212; you know, straight out of a blue-collar background, and they\u2019re all reaching over the crowd, reaching in saying, &#8220;Keep fighting, keep going.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The American people, I think, are tired of being told.&nbsp; They\u2019re tired of being told this is as good as it gets.&nbsp; They\u2019re tired of being told, like Ronald Reagan used to say, that little intellectual elite in a far distant capital can plan our lives better for us than we can plan them for ourselves.&nbsp; Donald Trump has made an incredible connection with everyday Americans.&nbsp; And I really do believe that in the days that remain in this campaign, you\u2019re gonna continue to see the American people well up and make Donald Trump the 45th president of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; So you\u2019re in North Carolina today.&nbsp; How many events a day are you trying to squeeze in?<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; Well, you know, we\u2019ve got a couple rallies today.&nbsp; I know Donald did three rallies on Saturday, one yesterday in Naples.&nbsp; I think, you know, what you\u2019re gonna see both of us doing is just taking this case to the American people.&nbsp; I\u2019ll be in Pennsylvania, I\u2019ll be in Iowa, I\u2019ll be out west in Nevada, in Colorado this week.&nbsp; Donald I think is in Florida the next day or so, but we\u2019re just gonna do it. You know, my role model in all of this &#8212; and Donald Trump and I\u2019ve talked about this &#8212; is Harry Truman and his campaign in 1948.&nbsp; I know you\u2019re a great student of history, but it\u2019s a similar deal.&nbsp; Remember the Truman and Dewey race, Rush?<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; Oh, yes.<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"eZObject_129423\" class=\"img_right\" align=\"right\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DeweyDefeatsTruman_large.jpg\"\/><line xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">PENCE:&nbsp; I mean, you had this glamorous guy named Dewey who the political establishment all loved, the media all loved him, and Truman just wasn\u2019t having any of it, and he just went out and got on that whistle-stop train and went out and did five, six stages a day, I forget what history records, but it was for maybe six weeks.&nbsp; And he brought it home, and that famous photograph of him holding a newspaper that says Dewey defeats Truman, you know, Truman went to bed on election night, woke up, he was still president and &#8212;<\/line><\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; You can cite the same example &#8212;<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; &#8212; same kind of campaign.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; You can cite the same example, Reagan-Carter 1980.<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; Sure.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; Last poll had Carter up by nine.&nbsp; Look, time is growing short.<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; Yeah.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; And I\u2019ve got one more question for you.<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; Yeah.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; The media is trying to tell us that it\u2019s over, it\u2019s just so over, that Hillary and her surrogates are now going to red states and campaigning for down-ballot races so the Democrats are not only gonna skunk Trump, but they\u2019re gonna win the House and the Senate back.&nbsp; What are they really doing, Governor, as they\u2019re out the campaigning in these red states?&nbsp; What are they doing, in your opinion?<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; Well, I honestly think it\u2019s all just tactical by Hillary\u2019s team and by her allies in the national media.&nbsp; You know, there\u2019s two ways you can defeat your opponent, number one, is you can defeat \u2019em outright, or number two, you can just demoralize them.&nbsp; I think that\u2019s what they\u2019re trying to do here.&nbsp; But I don\u2019t think the American people are buying it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"eZObject_129451\" class=\"img_right\" align=\"right\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Trump-Sign-Pence_large.jpg\"\/><line xmlns:tmp=\"http:\/\/ez.no\/namespaces\/ezpublish3\/temporary\/\">We got a great crowd waiting for us here.&nbsp; Both of our rallies in North Carolina today, the enthusiasm that I feel.&nbsp; I think people are tuning out the political class, tuning out the national media, and the American people are just gonna &#8212; we\u2019re just gonna demand government as good as our people again.&nbsp; And we know we can have that electing the Trump-Pence team and reelecting a Republican House and Senate.&nbsp; I\u2019m gonna be campaigning with Richard Burr today, with Governor Pat McCrory.&nbsp;<\/line><\/p>\n<p>Donald Trump said yesterday in Naples, we have to reelect a Republican House and a Republican Senate so that he can advance and we can move forward that contract with the American voter that he outlined in Gettysburg.&nbsp; So, you know, anyone within the sound of my voice, I would just tell \u2019em don\u2019t buy the media spin, don\u2019t buy the Hillary spin.&nbsp; This race is on, it\u2019s a fight, and it\u2019s to the finish, and we\u2019re gonna keep fighting hard for the American people, not just to elect the Trump-Pence team, but to reelect Republican majorities in the House and Senate so we can move that contract with the American voter and make America great again.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:&nbsp; Thank you, Governor Pence, for your time.&nbsp; I appreciate you thinking of us as you try to squeeze things into your schedule today.&nbsp; Have a great afternoon, a great rest of the day.<\/p>\n<p>PENCE:&nbsp; Thanks, Rush.&nbsp; Appreciate you.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RUSH: Governor Pence has phoned us and without any further ado, I want to welcome him to the program.&nbsp; Governor, you\u2019re calling us from your campaign plane, is that right?
