RUSH: Back to the sound bites. Our buddy Jeffrey Lord, the American Spectator, was on Anderson Cooper 219 on CNN. Question from Cooper: “Wouldn\u2019t it have been better for Trump to be the one to have broken the fact he lost $900 million? Break it a while ago, saying, ‘It was an unfair tax code. I took full advantage of it but I\u2019m going to fix it for you.\u2019 Why didn\u2019t he do that that? Couldn\u2019t he have done much greater help for himself if he had been the one to leak it?”<\/p>\n

LORD: Anderson, that is, I grant you, the conventional political wisdom in this town without doubt. I said for months, he shouldn\u2019t release any of it, because I think the whole thing is a game and a scam here to get people to do this, people who are outsiders — again, as Rush Limbaugh pointed out today — who have never been elected to public office. This is a game to get them.”<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Amen! It\u2019s exactly that. The whole tax return ruse is designed to expose outsiders as not being qualified to be insiders. The whole thing! If you\u2019re in politics your whole life, you structure your life to get elected and reelected, and you structure your tax return to do the same thing. You structure it so there\u2019s no apparent wild loss, no wild gain. There\u2019s no wild this or that. You pay a certain amount to charity, you pay 15 to 25% of your income to taxes, and you\u2019re good to go. But an outsider doesn\u2019t live his life like a politician does, doesn\u2019t structure everything in life for public consumption.<\/p>\n

A politician does.<\/p>\n

A politician dresses a certain way every day for public consumption.<\/p>\n

Outsiders don\u2019t. So when an outsider wants to become president, “You better release your tax returns,” and he does or doesn\u2019t, or they leak it — whatever the case may be — and we find out that the tax return doesn\u2019t look anything like a politician\u2019s. And then we\u2019re supposed to say, “Oh, that\u2019s not good. That\u2019s not qualified. Look at all that, a $900 million loss!” There were a half million people that reported losses in the same year that Trump did of varying degrees.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been in the tax code since the early 1900s! If it weren\u2019t in there, companies would go belly up and we would lose jobs and jobs and jobs year after year after year. The whole thing is a ruse. But Trump did announce it! It was in his book The Art of the Comeback<\/a>. He\u2019s not made it a secret that he lost $900 million. So Cooper then says, “Do you think this story has resonance among people who are undecided or are on the fence?”<\/p>\n

LORD: I really do think the intended effect of this story of the New York Times<\/a>… By the way, the New York Times — Rush Limbaugh pointed this out today — wouldn\u2019t publish those leaked and hacked emails from East Anglia about climate science. They refused to publish them because it was illegal, but yet it\u2019s okay to publish Trump\u2019s tax returns, which brings up the media agenda. But I think this is going to backfire, here, because so many people… I got an email right now from a private music teacher whom I know talking about all this, and she said, “Your losses are proportionate to your income.” She says, “Of course he\u2019s doing this,” and the concluding sentence is, “I think he\u2019s a smart businessman.” I really think this can backfire.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Why, as I said yesterday<\/a>, are there not stories of recovery and rebound and Trump turning it around and going from a year of losing that much money to now being such a huge success in real estate? Why are those stories not out there? I\u2019ll tell you why.
