RUSH: Here\u2019s another story.  This is actually a column, I guess, by Chris Stirewalt, the political director at Fox News<\/a>.  And he starts his piece today… How many times…? How many times have I said to you — in fact, even on today\u2019s broadcast when talking about Hillary and her campaign — it wasn\u2019t supposed to be this way? They were supposed to have this wrapped up. <\/p>\n

Trump was gonna be — don\u2019t you understand? — a cakewalk. “Those dumb Republicans, the stupid idiots. Look at what they\u2019ve done! They\u2019ve nominated the absolute worst cupcake they could ever throw up.” They looked at this as like Ohio State versus West “Ovary” University.  It wasn\u2019t even supposed to be a contest.  This was not how it\u2019s supposed to be.  And they are panicking in the inner sanctum of the Democrat Party.  And they\u2019re panicking over a lot. <\/line><\/p>\n

They\u2019re panicking over the fact that Hillary\u2019s not liked and respected and popular.  They\u2019re panicked over the fact that still being a Clinton is not enough to get her with a ten-point lead or greater.  They\u2019re panicked over the fact that she\u2019s not trustworthy.  They\u2019re panicked over the fact that she doesn\u2019t have the stamina or the energy to even get on the campaign trail.  They are panicked and worried that she\u2019s gonna have something go wrong physically during the debate. <\/p>\n

They are worried about a lot, and they never saw it coming.  This is the beautiful thing about it.  They were so cocky.  They were so certain.  They were so self-absorbed.  Man, I will tell you, the attitude Democrats copped — and many Republicans — in the primaries are the attitudes that anybody worth their salt teaching you when you were a young person tells you no. Never, ever, ever think it\u2019s over before it\u2019s over.  Never, ever think you have won something before it\u2019s over. <\/p>\n

Never, ever cop an arrogant attitude, because it\u2019s always likely to come back and bite you.  And this is Stirewalt in his piece today has… Let me give you two pull quotes from it.  “The possibility…” He has to write this stuff.  I mean, this is Journalism 101. You have your premise and then you allow that you could be wrong.  “The possibility still exists for the kind of election that Clinton expected.  But with five days until the first debate, that\u2019s not how it\u2019s shaping up. <\/p>\n

“Instead, preceding her coronation, Clinton finds herself in a daily dogfight against a rival who will say or do anything to win.  Does she still have enough energy left to win?  Does she have enough time?” Who knows?  But don\u2019t ask her and her campaign.  If they can forecast the future that well they wouldn\u2019t be in this fix in the first place. You know that question about energy, “Does she still have enough energy left to win?”  How long do you think they\u2019ve known she\u2019s got problems?  They have to have known for a long time. <\/p>\n

They have to have known that she\u2019s got a stamina problem.  They have to have known. I mean, she\u2019s not been a hermit in the sense that she hasn\u2019t lived in such a way as to hide all this.  They have to have known.  So I would think that the fact that Trump won the nomination was probably a huge sigh of relief, because I will bet that you along with this arrogance and cockiness, with Trump ending as the opponent, I am sure they said to themselves, “Boy, this is the best thing could have happened!<\/line><\/p>\n

“She\u2019s not gonna have to campaign every day to beat this guy, \u2019cause this guy is gonna defeat himself.  This guy\u2019s gonna implode. He may not even be in the race by the time we get to Election Day.”  So they were probably breathing a huge sigh of relief, and with every one of these episodes — and I\u2019m gonna tell you something, folks. The media is down playing this — as they, of course, would.  How many of you…? Let me just ask you this: How many of you are old enough to have remembered or have seen it perhaps replayed that moment when John Hinckley attempted to assassinate Ronaldus Magnus?<\/p>\n

There was chaos, and they hustled him into the limousine. I mean, they literally shoved him in the limousine, the Secret Service did, and that limousine took out of there at full speed. You remember the…? If you were around then, it would be the early eighties when you saw this. That\u2019s a powerful image; your president just got shot, and you have no idea.  And the first reports were that it wasn\u2019t serious, that the shot may have even missed the president, that James Brady took the brunt of it.<\/p>\n

And then you learn later that Reagan is in life-threatening surgery, life-threatening circumstances and surgery.  Well, I\u2019m here to tell you, that video on the Sunday of 9\/11, the media is gonna deemphasize this, they\u2019re gonna downplay it, but I guarantee you the people in the inner sanctum of the Clinton campaign are not.  That video where she seizes and nearly collapses and is bobbing up and down and nearly falls to the ground just trying to enter a van, which is there because she has to leave a 9\/11 event early because she has fallen ill or something.<\/line><\/p>\n

People who have seen that — and that thing has been recycled and replayed on YouTube gazillions of times.  And this is one of these things… The Drive-Bys, they\u2019re not sure about  playing that video. They\u2019re fooling themselves into believing, “There\u2019s no impact in that! We\u2019re not playing that video. Nobody really saw that.  Besides, we\u2019ve explained it.  She just lost a shoe!  She was fine an hour and a half later.  It was no big deal.” But it was and remains so.  The person is running for president.<\/p>\n

Forget who it is.  Anybody in that video, that\u2019s a two- or three-gulper when you see that, and you don\u2019t forget it.  And then every day following when Mrs. Clinton can\u2019t make a campaign appearance? She canceled a campaign appearance yesterday.  And now the Clinton campaign says, “Well, yes, she\u2019s resting up for the debates.”  Well, the debates are what, 10 days, five days away? I forget.  It\u2019s at least a number of days.  I mean, you don\u2019t rest that long for a single event.  But she is.  She has to.<\/p>\n
