RUSH: I told you long ago, folks. I observed long ago — I got in deep doo-doo for this, too, and I said things you\u2019re not supposed to say.\u00a0 These Colin Powell emails and this massive email dump here, the latest from WikiLeaks, a lot of people think the email dump contains very damning messages, information, attitudes, opinions about Hillary Clinton from General Powell.<\/p>\n

But I think there\u2019s an overall larger concern, and that is that Colin Powell is primarily interested in maintaining good standing with the people that run the establishment inside-the-Beltway and New York. The Boston-New York-Washington corridor, the social status.\u00a0 You\u2019ll notice where all these leaks happen. They happen at parties in the Hamptons. All these comments are made while General Powell is socializing with the elites and the people in the upper stratosphere as they socialize, and that has been his objective from the moment he became prominent in public life.<\/p>\n

In other words, he\u2019s profoundly concerned with what people think of him.\u00a0 A lot of people are, don\u2019t misunderstand.\u00a0 A lot of people are.\u00a0 But General Powell does not have that normally said about him.\u00a0 He is viewed in other ways.\u00a0 I just think you have to understand that if you want to understand how and why General Powell says the things he says about the people he says it about.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay, the latest WikiLeaks document dump features emails of General Colin Powell and Secretary Colin Powell weighing in on aspects of Hillary Clinton.<\/p>\n

The U.K. Daily Mail has a story, and it\u2019s headlined:\u00a0 “Hillary Clinton ‘HATES\u2019 President Obama for Defeating Her in the 2008 Election,”<\/a> according to Colin Powell\u2019s leaked email. She “was so sick giving paid speech[,] she could barely walk up steps.” So, according to General Powell, Hillary Clinton is sick, she is tired, and she hates Obama because he beat her in 2008.\u00a0 And I have no doubt about that.\u00a0 I think it goes deeper than that.\u00a0 You have to go back to 2008.<\/p>\n

You have to relive that 2008 was supposed to be what\u2019s happening this year.\u00a0 There wasn\u2019t supposed to be an Obama.\u00a0 There wasn\u2019t supposed to be anybody come along that could seriously compete.\u00a0 It was hers.\u00a0 She had been guaranteed.\u00a0 She\u2019d been promised. She\u2019d been told, “Hey, 2008? It\u2019s yours! That\u2019s when we\u2019re paying you back for everything you\u2019ve done to help us,” with whatever she did, keeping her husband alive and all those things by not leaving him.\u00a0 And then Obama surfaced.<\/p>\n

And it was so clear, so obvious that a majority of Democrats wanted him and not her.\u00a0 That had to be such a blow.\u00a0 In her mind, she has single-handedly saved the Democrat Party by standing by her husband, and it\u2019s more than that. She thinks she\u2019s single-handedly saved the party \u2019cause she\u2019s the smartest woman in the world and therefore in the party.\u00a0 To be thrown overboard like that for a young — what did Biden say? — “clean and articulate black guy.”\u00a0 Biden… That\u2019s what he said, right?\u00a0 So to be overthrown by a clean…<\/p>\n

That really ticked off Al Sharpton.\u00a0 He takes showers, too. To lose to “a clean and articulate black guy,” when it was hers? She felt betrayed.\u00a0 She finally found out what some in the Democrat Party really think of her.\u00a0 Then Obama came along and was 10 times as dazzling and exciting and thrilling and attractive as she has ever been.\u00a0 This is an ego business, and I will guarantee you that that hurt and it ticked her off.<\/p>\n

She probably experienced a gamut of emotions.\u00a0 So I\u2019m not surprised when I see Colin Powell writing how she hated Obama, but I think it\u2019s for far more than just she lost to him.\u00a0 It goes deeper than that.\u00a0 I know then you\u2019ll say, “But, Rush, I\u2019ve heard this.\u00a0 I\u2019ve heard if from you. I\u2019ve heard… Then why did she accept secretary of state?\u00a0 And if Obama hates her and she hates Obama, then why did Obama go to the convention and say everything he said about her being more qualified than anybody ever has been?”<\/p>\n

Well, that\u2019s a different world those people live in, and the one thing that has to survive and triumph at all times is the ideology: Liberalism. The Democrat Party must always win no matter what.\u00a0 They\u2019re not like the Republicans that are willing to sell the party out on what they say is principle or whatever.\u00a0 Democrats, ain\u2019t no way they\u2019re losing no matter what.\u00a0 And if there\u2019s bad blood between Hillary and Obama, they\u2019re gonna deal with that behind the doors and we\u2019ll never see it.\u00a0 It\u2019ll be dealt with, or a huge price will be extracted.<\/p>\n

“Hillary, you want me go out there and say what everybody knows is not true, how good you are?\u00a0 Let me tell you what it\u2019s gonna cost you, Babe,” stuff like this that we\u2019re never privy to.\u00a0 And this is we\u2019re talking about the Clintons. Who knows what they\u2019ve got on people! I mean, these are the people the 500 FBI files.\u00a0 This is different air they breathe, folks.\u00a0 This is rarefied air when you get to that level of a group that is really so tiny as the quote\/unquote “establishment,” and they are into self-preservation.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why they\u2019re all aligning, Republicans and Democrats together, to try to keep Trump out of there.\u00a0 That\u2019s the worst thing that could happen.\u00a0 That\u2019s why, if you\u2019re wondering why you hear Republicans really embracing the idea of a Hillary win, that\u2019s what it\u2019s all about.\u00a0 It\u2019s about maintaining the club, about maintaining the establishment — this tiny but exclusive and very powerful group of people.\u00a0 And they deal with each other in their own ways.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s in ways where they need to be reciprocal, pay people back, take people out. There are ways of doing that behind the scenes that don\u2019t take place in public that we probably might not see.\u00a0 But the bad blood, people are saying, “Colin Powell says she hates Obama, but that doesn\u2019t jibe with the way they look and talk about each other.”\u00a0 Ah, it could.\u00a0 They could still harbor great dislike for each other and distrust — and don\u2019t forget the Trump factor.<\/p>\n

If any of the other Republican candidates had been nominated, then Obama might not have been so cautious in protecting Hillary.\u00a0 If somebody from the Republican establishment\u2019s gonna get elected, why, Obama\u2019s gonna know that preserving the establishment will take place.\u00a0 But with Trump he can\u2019t roll the dice, and if he doesn\u2019t want Hillary to win, Trump changes everything, \u2019cause the last thing they want is for Trump to win this.\u00a0 Jeb would be okay.\u00a0 Kasich would be okay.<\/p>\n

I would say Trump and Cruz were the two that no matter what, would never be allowed to happen.\u00a0 The Democrats will bury whatever hatchets they have for each other to stop either Trump or Cruz.\u00a0 But any of the others… (interruption) Ah, Rubio? I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 There might have been a third.\u00a0 The bottom line is Trump winning the nomination changed everything.\u00a0 It almost forces Obama and the Clintons to get along, whereas in other circumstances there might have been a little less comity.<\/p>\n

So it just makes these emails from Colin Powell all the more interesting, \u2019cause I don\u2019t doubt them at all.\u00a0 She\u2019s sick, she\u2019s tired, and she hates Obama. She hates Obama\u2019s economy. She hates half of Trump\u2019s supporters. She hates transparency.\u00a0 But she loves throwing Colin Powell under the bus.\u00a0 “A wealthy private equity investor told former Secretary of State Colin Powell that Hillary Clinton ‘HATES\u2019 President Obama in newly leaked emails between the two men that were leaked by D.C. Leaks and obtained by The Intercept.<\/a><\/p>\n

“Jeffrey Leeds wrote to Powell in one email which was posted on Twitter by Lee Fang that all Clinton wants is to win the upcoming election, and that she might not win in the end. He then went on to say: ‘It\u2019s the one prize she wants. She has everything else. And she HATES the President (“that man” as the Clintons call him)…'” Apparently, the Clintons don\u2019t even refer to Obama by name.\u00a0 They call him “that man.”\u00a0 She hates the president…<\/p>\n

This is from emails now.\u00a0 “She hates the president. That man who kicked her butt in 2008.\u00a0 She can\u2019t believe it.\u00a0 She can\u2019t accept it.”\u00a0 In another March 2015 email exchange between the two men, they talk about Clinton\u2019s health with this guy Jeffrey Leeds stating that Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse informed him that she could barely climb the podium steps when the two gave a speech at the same event.\u00a0 Leeds also wrote to Powell about other problems he believed Clinton would be facing in the upcoming election.\u00a0 “No one likes her.\u00a0 The criminal thing ain\u2019t over,” Jeffrey Leeds wrote on Powell.\u00a0 “No one likes her.\u00a0 The criminal thing ain\u2019t over.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think the president would weep if she found herself in real legal trouble.\u00a0 She will pummel his legacy if she gets a chance, and he knows it.”<\/p>\n

Folks, I\u2019m here to tell you none of this surprises me.\u00a0 Everything you\u2019re seeing in public, Obama and Hillary apparently lovey-dovey, mutual respect, that\u2019s bogus.\u00a0 That\u2019s the kind of thing they have to do.\u00a0 This behind-the-scenes stuff, I guarantee you it\u2019s real.\u00a0 And I think Obama would be concerned about any new president and his legacy.\u00a0 But look, all Obama has to do is listen to what Hillary\u2019s saying on the campaign trail.\u00a0 Nobody can miss this.\u00a0 I\u2019m surprised that — if I were in the Trump campaign, I\u2019d be making a much bigger deal of this.\u00a0 Hillary Clinton\u2019s whole campaign is rooted largely in how these last eight years need to be vastly improved upon.<\/p>\n

Hillary Clinton is indicting the eight years of the Obama administration by virtue of the way she\u2019s campaigning.\u00a0 Don\u2019t believe Obama doesn\u2019t know it.\u00a0 So you\u2019re asking me, “Well, then, Rush, why\u2019d Obama go out and campaign for her in Philadelphia yesterday?”\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t campaigning for her, I hate to tell you.\u00a0 Obama was getting back in the light.\u00a0 Look, he\u2019s lame duck now.\u00a0 He\u2019s not the focus.\u00a0 Obama is not the focus.\u00a0 Hillary and Trump are the focus.\u00a0 They\u2019re the future.\u00a0 Obama, lame duck, soon to be lame duck.\u00a0 He went out there, he mentioned himself 137 times in a campaign appearance ostensibly for Hillary Clinton.<\/p>\n

Now, the public impression is, “Oh, he loves stepping in for her.\u00a0 He absolutely loves helping her out.\u00a0 She can\u2019t go, she can\u2019t get out of bed, she can\u2019t leave Chappaqua because of pneumonia, he\u2019s happy to go help.”\u00a0 But he\u2019s doing it for him.\u00a0 He is doing that, all of these things, for him, to buttress his legacy.\u00a0 He knows that she\u2019s out — you listen to what she\u2019s saying, she\u2019s indicting the last Obama years, eight years, particularly the economy.<\/p>\n

So everything is not hunky-dory and sweetness and light.\u00a0 However, these people on the left have the ability to unify when it comes to beating us.\u00a0 That is their number one objective.\u00a0 That\u2019s how they maintain their position, their leadership in the establishment.\u00a0 That\u2019s how they maintain the establishment in control of the country.\u00a0 They have no problem unifying to defeat us.\u00a0 We do not have that talent.\u00a0 We don\u2019t have that.\u00a0 That\u2019s not part of the Republican or conservative existence, and it\u2019s on display right here.\u00a0 We will not unify to defeat them.\u00a0 They will.\u00a0 For a campaign, for a few months, they will set aside every beef and disagreement they\u2019ve got and unify against us as the enemy.\u00a0 We don\u2019t have that capacity for some inexplicable reason.<\/p>\n

Even now we have people on our side trying to make their bones trying to say, “I\u2019m above it all. I have no problem voting for Hillary Clinton.”\u00a0 You won\u2019t find a single Democrat, elected or former, who will go public and say he\u2019s voting Trump.\u00a0 Never.\u00a0 They do not do that to themselves.\u00a0 We do all the time.\u00a0 But underneath all that, there isn\u2019t all this sweetness and light and love.\u00a0 Not that it matters because they will unify to beat us, because they consider us the number one threat to their way of life, to their power base and their secure hold over it.<\/p>\n

We are engaged in intramural, internecine fighting.\u00a0 They aren\u2019t.\u00a0 Not during campaigns.\u00a0 Not during elections.\u00a0 They unified around McGovern.\u00a0 They unified around Mondale.\u00a0 They unified around Jimmy Carter.\u00a0 They do not sell each other out when it comes to defeating us.\u00a0 Now, when it\u2019s just them, look what they did to Crazy Bernie.\u00a0 When it\u2019s just them, they\u2019ll take each other out, but they\u2019ll come together when it comes to beating us.<\/p>\n

So that\u2019s why when you see these Powell emails and you see all this, “He really doesn\u2019t like her, she doesn\u2019t like him, and she doesn\u2019t like Obama.”\u00a0 Yeah.\u00a0 Don\u2019t doubt that it\u2019s true.\u00a0 But they have the ability to set it aside when we are involved, and we are involved as opponents in this election.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
