RUSH: This is something that I have noted for a long, long time, and it\u2019s something I\u2019ve simply internalized, my reaction to it, I\u2019ve never made a big deal about it. I haven\u2019t even really talked to anybody about it.\u00a0 I ran across a story today that kind of — well, I don\u2019t know the process internally in my deep, dark crevices of the incredible brain in there, but it just came rushing forward here.I\u2019ve been leery, resentful, I don\u2019t know what — I\u2019ve had a problem with tweets becoming news sources for the longest time.\u00a0 And it seems like it has been increasing, particularly in gossip.\u00a0 But even in hard news, I mean, you can be reading something from CNN or NBC, whatever, and it\u2019s based on a tweet of some public figure, 140-character tweet.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s just the latest example of reporters sitting around waiting for news to come to them, rather than going out and finding it.\u00a0 Of course we know that does not happen anymore anyway. They are just waiting for the latest fax or tweet or what have you.\u00a0 But here\u2019s what prompted this, what prompted me to mention this.\u00a0 I have a story from a website called Russian Times America.\u00a0 Now, you probably never heard of it, but our show prep here knows no bounds.<\/p>\n

And the headline of this story is “Obama Says Americans Are Too Lazy to Explore the World.”\u00a0 Did you know Obama said this?\u00a0 There\u2019s no right or wrong answer.\u00a0 Did you know that Obama said to anybody that Americans are too lazy to explore the world?\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know.\u00a0 I said, “What? When did Obama say this?”\u00a0 I don\u2019t have any doubt that he said it.\u00a0 I mean, I think it\u2019s perfectly within Obama\u2019s character to say something like this.\u00a0 I think this guy\u2019s got a chip on his shoulder about this country.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to repeat that.\u00a0 I\u2019ve said that enough here.\u00a0 Well, let\u2019s dig into this story together, shall we?\u00a0 Here\u2019s what it is.<\/p>\n

“President Barack Obama says Americans are so uninterested in the rest of the world because they are ‘lazy\u2019 and don\u2019t feel like knowing about ‘other people.\u2019 His remarks have not gone unnoticed at home, where angered Americans suggested he stay abroad.”<\/p>\n

Okay, so I read this from the Russian Times America website, I said, “What people at home?” This is the first I\u2019ve heard of this, and yet they\u2019re taking, they\u2019re saying that Obama\u2019s remarks have not gone unnoticed at home.\u00a0 I\u2019m not aware that they\u2019ve been noticed.\u00a0 But they have.\u00a0 See, that\u2019s the thing.\u00a0 Guess this is what they report, he said.<\/p>\n

“We are such a big country we haven\u2019t always had to know about other parts of the world,\u2019 Obama told a Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) town hall.”\u00a0 He\u2019s over there in Laos. He\u2019s over there at the G20 and whatever.\u00a0 And he said: “If you are in Laos, you need to know about Thailand and China and Cambodia, because you are a small country and they are right next door and you need to know who they are. If you are in the United States,” Obama continued, “sometimes you can feel lazy and think, ‘You know we are so big we don\u2019t have to really know anything about other people.\u2019 That\u2019s part of what I\u2019m trying to change.”<\/p>\n
