CALLER:\u00a0 Yeah.\u00a0 Thanks for having me on, Rush.\u00a0 I want to say I\u2019m a big fan.\u00a0 You\u2019re my daily dose of sanity in an insane world.\u00a0 I\u2019m a 34-year-old Millennial, I guess.\u00a0 I\u2019m about to finish my master\u2019s degree in sociology, and I call myself a true Libertarian, but I don\u2019t feel like anybody out there, whether in the university or political world, really represents me or even wants me, and especially not Gary Johnson.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know where he gets off calling himself a Libertarian.\u00a0 To me he\u2019s like a Green Party reject liberal that\u2019s also an opportunist like —<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Thank you.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 — most liberals.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 — thank you.\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 I\u2019m glad that you said that.\u00a0 You\u2019re exactly right about that.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Yeah, he seems, “Okay, there\u2019s an opportunity, I\u2019ll run as a Republican, nobody\u2019s representing the Libertarians, I\u2019ll run Libertarian.”\u00a0 But, in actuality, he\u2019s just — okay, legalized marijuana, but a Libertarian is for small government, and that\u2019s not Gary Johnson.\u00a0 The federal government, to me, has two jobs, foreign policy and national defense.\u00a0 And that\u2019s it.\u00a0 Everything else should be left to the states.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Which is essentially keeping Americans safe.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Right, exactly.<\/p>\n

RUSH: \u00a0And defending the Constitution, don\u2019t forget that.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Oh, yeah, but to me that\u2019s national defense.\u00a0 So income tax, no, that should only be levied in time of war.\u00a0 That is not what Gary Johnson — he doesn\u2019t represent me, he doesn\u2019t represent people that think like me.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, Gary Johnson, all these people in there as spoilers.\u00a0 They\u2019re not really there to advance what you would call the Libertarian worldview or ideology or what have you.\u00a0 They\u2019re just in there as spoilers, and that\u2019s why they\u2019re treated with such curiosity, respect and acclaim and so forth because third parties are generally known to harm the Republican candidate\u2019s presidential quest.<\/p>\n

So that\u2019s why he\u2019s getting acclaim.\u00a0 It\u2019s not that the media loves Libertarians, and it\u2019s not that the media, “Oh, wow, look at this great Libertarian.”\u00a0 It\u2019s not that.\u00a0 “Oh, wow, look at this guy that could hurt Trump, okay, we got build this guy up.”\u00a0 And that\u2019s primarily why.\u00a0 You\u2019re very shrewd not to fall for this.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here is Walt in Aberdeen, South Dakota.\u00a0 Walt, great to have you. Glad you waited out there.\u00a0 How are you doing, sir?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 No worries, Rush.\u00a0 Mega Afghan veteran union member pro-Trump dittos from the Great Plains.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s great to have you here, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Anyhow, I want to take on this theory that Gary Johnson is a Libertarian.\u00a0 He is no more Libertarian than Bernie Sanders.\u00a0 If you take a look at his stance on the cap and trade carbon tax initiative or the TPP, which really isn\u2019t free trade, it\u2019s more government regulation from outside our own federal government —<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 — and if you take a look at his stance on religious freedom, he\u2019s more a freedom from religion than a freedom of religion guy.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 It\u2019s basically a flawed principle that he is in any way a representative of the Libertarian beliefs.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, I\u2019ll take your word for it \u2019cause I otherwise am uninterested.\u00a0 I\u2019m gonna tell you something.\u00a0 Walt, I don\u2019t mean this directed at you.\u00a0 I\u2019m not reacting to what you have said here so don\u2019t take this the wrong way, but I\u2019m gonna leave you up so you can react to it.\u00a0 I was just gonna take the occasion of your call here, Gary Johnson, okay, big whoop, what\u2019s he got, 8%, 8% of American voters are gonna throw their vote away.\u00a0 Jill Stein, what\u2019s she gonna get, 2% of American voters are gonna throw their vote away.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know what it feels like to knowingly go into a polling place and know that your vote is actually undermining what you want to accomplish.\u00a0 I don\u2019t understand it.\u00a0 Take that back.\u00a0 I understand it because I understand there are all types.\u00a0 I understand there\u2019s all kinds of human psyche, psychology motivation.\u00a0 I just personally cannot relate to voting for a third-party candidate.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a protester by nature, so I don\u2019t have that element.\u00a0 A lot of people vote third-party to protest what they don\u2019t like in the other two.<\/p>\n

But to me common sense says, one of the two, the Republican or the Democrat, whatever year, I\u2019m not just talking this year, any year, the Republican or the Democrat is gonna win.\u00a0 It seems to me that a responsible citizen would decide who among the Republican or Democrat you want or don\u2019t want and have that be the primary way you vote.\u00a0 You\u2019re throwing your vote away on these third-party people.\u00a0 And as Walt so adequately points out here, Gary Johnson is not even who the Libertarians want him to be, right?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Correct, sir.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Are you a Libertarian, would you vote third-party?\u00a0 I don\u2019t mean to insult you if that\u2019s who you are.\u00a0 I don\u2019t mean to insult anybody here.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I will admit I have voted Libertarian in the past, like whenever they ran John McCain, I could not bring myself to vote for him.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I\u2019m almost grateful that Libertarians picked Gary Johnson because he is such a poor Libertarian that a lot of —<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, he\u2019s polling better than any Libertarian has since any third-party guy since Perot.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I really think that that is coming from the Bernie Sanders crowd for what he believes in.\u00a0 Because had the Libertarian —<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You may have a point there, yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Had the Libertarians managed to convince someone like Rand Paul, who I was a huge supporter of, to run for a Libertarian ticket, then I actually think that he would poll more votes from Trump than Gary Johnson is gonna manage to pull from Clinton, although Arizona does worry me.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 In what sense?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Well, and I am not accusing Trump of racism or bias against Hispanics or anything, but Gary Johnson\u2019s attitude toward illegal immigration and not defending our borders, supposedly that\u2019s being manipulated to pull a lot of what would be normally conservative Republican votes from Trump to Johnson in a normally conservative state.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You know, that may be, but I don\u2019t think Gary Johnson\u2019s pulling votes from Trump.\u00a0 I think people are voting against Trump for their own reasons. He\u2019s who you vote for if you don\u2019t like Hillary and you can\u2019t stomach Trump, okay, where do you go?\u00a0 You don\u2019t vote Jill Stein so you got out and you vote for Gary Johnson.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think it\u2019s an affirmative vote for him.\u00a0 I just think you have some people for whatever reason who won\u2019t vote for Trump on the Republican side.\u00a0 The Never Trumpers, we know they\u2019re out there, and Gary Johnson just happens to be the receptacle you throw the trash that is your vote in.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 Well, my whole thing is, you know, the anti-Trumpers I cannot stomach because they\u2019re the ones that kept constantly berating me any time I said that I didn\u2019t support a milquetoast Republican like the McCains or the Romneys.\u00a0 And, you know, the Hillary voters I write off into three categories, you know, actually ignorant, willfully ignorant, or willfully evil.<\/p>\n
