\"Listen<\/a><\/p>\n

RUSH: I have to tell you this.\u00a0 This is just — to me, this is so heartwarming.\u00a0 Near the end of the program yesterday<\/a>, I think it was in the last half hour, a woman called who said that she wanted to thank me for helping her to understand Donald Trump.\u00a0 She\u2019d hated Trump. She despised Trump, the usual stuff.\u00a0 The media portrays him as a bombastic ogre, and she had bought it.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, her husband is a military veteran.\u00a0 She said that he was kind of anti-Trump, too, which was curious, but that her 14-year-old son had convinced her to listen to me, which she did. So she called here to thank me and to thank all of us for helping to change her mind about Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

And, in the process, or in the context of the call, she said that her family did not have a computer. And that was in response to a question of mine about why she thought what she thought about Trump. She made the point of — well, she didn\u2019t make a point of it, it was kind of a throwaway, she didn\u2019t have a computer so the only thing she had was television and broadcast media as a means of learning about Trump.<\/p>\n

So at the end of the conversation, I said, “Did I hear you right, you don\u2019t have a computer?”<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s right.\u00a0 We have one, but it\u2019s really old and it broke,” and so forth.<\/p>\n

“Well, would you like an iPad?\u00a0 I\u2019ve got a couple of iPads here and I\u2019d be glad to send it to you.”\u00a0 And she said, “Oh, oh, that\u2019d be so wonderful,” stuttering around.<\/p>\n

So I said, “Well, hang on, don\u2019t hang up.\u00a0 Mr. Snerdley will get your address so we can ship it to you.\u00a0 You\u2019ll have it tomorrow,” which is today.\u00a0 She\u2019s probably already got it \u2019cause we send everything Priority One.\u00a0 None of this second business day stuff here.\u00a0 I don\u2019t understand why people — if you\u2019re gonna send somebody something, get it there as soon as you can, the next day.\u00a0 That\u2019s when I want stuff.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe people that send stuff in a week.\u00a0 Well, I guess I can.\u00a0 I\u2019m just one of these people, when a package is coming, it\u2019s like Christmas morning.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Snerdley told me that, when he was getting her information, she got very nervous and sheepish and said, “I don\u2019t know if I can afford this.\u00a0 What does it cost?”\u00a0 He told me this, and it almost brought a tear to my eye.\u00a0 She had no idea that it was a gift, and she said to Snerdley, “Nobody ever does anything like this for us.”\u00a0 And so she was just thrilled as she could be that somebody was giving her an iPad.<\/p>\n

It got me to thinking, you know, that is a significant portion of our country.\u00a0 We live in a great place, but we have people who live in a number of different economic circumstances.\u00a0 When we talk about the nation\u2019s economy, particularly when social scientists talk about income, they divide income into five areas.\u00a0 They\u2019re called quintiles.\u00a0 And it\u2019s just a way of expressing the economic circumstance for people in the country to get an idea of GDP, productivity, and so forth.<\/p>\n

And there are a lot of people, particularly in this economy, who don\u2019t have much and are having a tough time finding work.\u00a0 In this case, a retired military family and all of the problems that they have.\u00a0 It makes me realize, you know, the great fortune all of us have to be Americans, yet there are a whole lot of people — I call them the backbone of America, the people that make the country work.\u00a0 They\u2019re out there, they\u2019re working and they\u2019re slaving away or they\u2019re trying to.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Some of them just have a really tough time getting ahead, but they\u2019re every bit the American citizen that you and I are.\u00a0 And I always have them in mind, every day when I\u2019m doing this program.\u00a0 And I have them in mind when I count my own blessings.\u00a0 So it was another realization and reminder of people and their future and the way they live.<\/p>\n

Not everything is TMZ and not everything is a red carpet opening or media event.\u00a0 And I\u2019m so flattered that people like that are in the audience because we really think that this program is helpful, in a motivating and even inspirational way.\u00a0 I mean, to ask Mr. Snerdley, “What does it cost?\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if we can afford it.”<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know, folks, it melted my heart.\u00a0 And not because we were giving anything.\u00a0 Just the added — obviously this family, nobody gives them anything.\u00a0 They\u2019re not familiar with that.\u00a0 They obviously haven\u2019t won anything prize-wise.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if they play the lottery or not.\u00a0 But, anyway, it was a great way to end the day yesterday.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
