CALLER:\u00a0 Hello.\u00a0 Huge thrill, Rush.\u00a0 Honor to speak to you.\u00a0 After listening to this for the last 20 minutes<\/a>, a great, great interview, I don\u2019t think conservatives will have a call to arms until there is a major meltdown that affects their own life and literally comes right to their door, and I find myself (unintelligible) and I\u2019m just trying to provide for my family.<\/p>\n

RUSH: How old are you?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I\u2019m 49.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You\u2019re 49.\u00a0 You have no sense of crisis in the country, you have no —<\/p>\n

<\/a>CALLER:\u00a0 No, I have a huge sense of crisis, huge, and my wife gets sick of me saying it sometimes.\u00a0 My closest friends around me agree with me, but even I don\u2019t find myself, you know, other than my little world around me, I\u2019m not affecting anything outside of my little universe.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, but I thought I heard you say that there are people who don\u2019t think there\u2019s a crisis.\u00a0 Did I misunderstand you?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Oh, yeah, I think you misunderstood.\u00a0 No.\u00a0 No.\u00a0 The people around me believe there is a crisis, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 The people around you believe there is?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Yes, sir.\u00a0 Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Okay, you need to start at the beginning. I\u2019m totally confused.\u00a0 It\u2019s not your fault.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 No, no, it\u2019s not your fault.\u00a0 You need to tell me what —<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Okay, I guess here\u2019s my short and sweet.\u00a0 I don\u2019t believe people will act — a call to arms, I don\u2019t believe they\u2019ll have a call to arms until there\u2019s literally a meltdown that comes right to their front door.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 So you don\u2019t think — the meltdown has yet to happen, we\u2019re in a crisis but there\u2019s no meltdown yet?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 That is correct.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 The mistake I was making was assuming you meant they mean the same thing, that crisis equals meltdown.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 No.\u00a0 No.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 No.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, why do you think we\u2019re in a crisis?<\/p>\n

<\/a>CALLER:\u00a0 Well, I just see what\u2019s going on. I\u2019ll start with my kids\u2019 school.\u00a0 They\u2019re 12 and 14.\u00a0 I see the stuff that they\u2019re coming home with in their history books — by the way, I love Rush Revere — but that is one small thing<\/a>.\u00a0 The other thing is I\u2019m self-employed. I\u2019m on now my third health insurance company in four years, and I just got my letter from Aetna saying that I am now gonna be dropped from Aetna here in Ohio.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 Well, let me once again repeat the focus of this piece, because I think it may have been lost, even though I mentioned it two or three times.\u00a0 The piece that I was quoting here is directly aimed at Never Trumpers, and it is chastising them for not seeing the crisis that they acknowledge exists.\u00a0 I mean, all these conservative intellectuals, and that\u2019s the target, it\u2019s this writer\u2019s target, not mine, by the way, I\u2019m just reading what they guy says to you and analyzing it.<\/p>\n

His point is you\u2019ve got all these conservatives that just can\u2019t stomach voting for Trump because Trump is so obscene, Trump\u2019s so barbaric, Trump\u2019s so beneath us, and yet Trump is the only hope out there for stopping the total destruction and transformation of America as you and I understand it and want it to be.\u00a0 And, therefore, he\u2019s chastising them for acknowledging there is a crisis but not being willing to do anything about it, because voting for Hillary Clinton is just the last nail in the coffin, which many of them are claiming to do, or at least will facilitate happening if they don\u2019t actively vote against her.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Hello, Rush.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Yeah, hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 We need to start naming Never Trumpers\u2019 names one by one and I\u2019m gonna get you started right now.\u00a0 Trump won the Arizona primary with almost twice as many votes as Cruz and Kasich combined.\u00a0 We got a Senator out there from Arizona that\u2019s appearing on the Sunday shows, actively and clearly stating his opposition to Trump.\u00a0 We need to hold these people accountable name by name.\u00a0 You can\u2019t say the Never Trumpers like that article that you\u2019re reading says.\u00a0 It\u2019s name by name.\u00a0 We have got to hold them accountable.\u00a0 And, if we do get a President Hillary and all the disasters that come with it, Senator Flake and all those other names I hope other people start naming name by name should have no —<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Okay, look, wait a second.\u00a0 I\u2019m just playing devil\u2019s advocate.\u00a0 What good is that gonna do naming the names other than to make you feel better by calling them out?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Let me ask you a question.\u00a0 If somebody in the Democrat Party starts speaking out against Hillary, what\u2019s gonna happen to them?\u00a0 They\u2019re gonna be shunned.\u00a0 They\u2019re gonna be laughed at. They\u2019re not gonna do it because they won\u2019t get anything.\u00a0 Why are we not doing the same thing here to people that are gonna end up electing President Clinton and destroy this country?\u00a0 We gotta do the same thing.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Now, that question sort of illustrates where we are.\u00a0 I mean, Trump is not perceived as the leader of the Republican Party.\u00a0 They\u2019re not gonna let that be perceived.\u00a0 Trump is still an outsider to many of the Republicans, elected Republicans, he\u2019s just, “No, no, no, he\u2019s an oddball, he\u2019s a quirk of fate, he\u2019s not one of us, and, as such, there\u2019s no loyalty demanded, there\u2019s no loyalty required here.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: This is Maria in Swansboro, North Carolina.\u00a0 Maria, great to have you on the program.\u00a0 Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Hi.\u00a0 Thank you for taking my call, Rush.\u00a0 You know, I\u2019ve been watching this whole election process taking out, and after watching the conservative establishment, the Never Trumpers and how they\u2019re treating him and the types of things that they\u2019re saying about his candidacy has really — I\u2019ve kind of had a come-to-Jesus moment when it comes to these people because it\u2019s pretty clear to me now that they will never, ever, ever fight for conservatism.\u00a0 Because, if you listen to what they say about Trump and his candidacy, what are the kinds of things that they\u2019re saying?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s nasty, it\u2019s ugly, it\u2019s dirty, it\u2019s confrontational, it\u2019s angry.\u00a0 And these are all the things, all these qualities are the kinds of things that you actually have to engage in in order to fight for something where you\u2019re going to get so much blowback and so much push-back.\u00a0 These guys, you know, I call them the lofty perch conservatives because that\u2019s where they are.\u00a0 They\u2019d much rather be up there where it\u2019s safe and they can look down at the rest of us and talk and talk and talk and complain, but as soon as they have to get their feet dirty, as soon as they have to get in the mud, that\u2019s when they turn tail and run because they just can\u2019t stand the ugliness and the messiness of it.<\/p>\n

And after listening to you read that article — and that\u2019s when it hit home to me.\u00a0 I said, “Oh, my God, that\u2019s exactly what\u2019s going on here.”\u00a0 These guys — and I don\u2019t mean to imply that they won\u2019t fight for anything.\u00a0 I know some of them have fought in wars and I appreciate what they\u2019ve done, but it\u2019s conservatism that they will never, ever fight for because of all of the — like remember that lady, who was the woman who complained that Trump looked angry, she was a congresswoman or I think she spoke after the State of the Union speech.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Dime a dozen.\u00a0 I don\u2019t remember who it might have been.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 But I get your point.\u00a0 The best point that you\u2019ve made in your entire call, do you know what the best point you\u2019ve made in your entire call is?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 What is it.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You don\u2019t know?\u00a0 Okay, I\u2019ll be happy —<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I thought the whole thing was pretty good, but maybe you can pick out one particular thing.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 There is, but there\u2019s a standout, there\u2019s a standout point, and the point is that you can\u2019t take these issues on without getting dirty.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Yeah, absolutely.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You can\u2019t these take issues on without getting down in the mud because that\u2019s where everything is happening.\u00a0 You can\u2019t do this as Mr. Polite, Mr. Nonfactor, Mr. Invisible.\u00a0 If you\u2019re gonna take these things on and fight for what is being lost, it is not pretty.\u00a0 No fight ever is.\u00a0 And what we have, I think, are some people — you talk about people that don\u2019t fight for conservatism.\u00a0 I would disagree with you, in this sense:\u00a0 If you\u2019re talking about the Never Trumpers, I think they are fighting for what they believe is conservatism.<\/p>\n

They think a Trump victory is going to obliterate conservatism as an ideology, and that ideology, conservatism, is where they live, it\u2019s where they earn their living, it\u2019s where their notoriety is and all that.\u00a0 So they\u2019re very, very intent on conservatism remaining intact.\u00a0 And the complaint in this article is that they\u2019re even willing to lose in order to maintain what they think is conservatism, and the writer\u2019s point is, we can\u2019t lose.\u00a0 If we lose, it doesn\u2019t matter what we are after we lose, \u2019cause we\u2019re not gonna exist in any significance.\u00a0 It\u2019s that dire right now.<\/p>\n

So I think you have a lot of people actually doing what they think is fighting to preserve conservatism on the basis that they think Trump\u2019s gonna destroy it and they think, ‘We gotta stay conservative! Gotta protect it! We\u2019ve gotta make sure it remains pure so we are here to fight another day.” And his point is, “What do you mean, ‘fight another day\u2019?\u00a0 If on the one hand you agree we\u2019re spiraling down so fast that we don\u2019t even have the ability to keep track of it — we\u2019re losing the culture, we\u2019re losing morality, we\u2019re losing virtue, we\u2019re losing our politics — what do you mean ‘fight another day\u2019?\u00a0 We have got to win now,” and these people are afraid that Trump is gonna destroy conservatism in the process, and that might not be good for them in whatever ways.\u00a0 So I actually think you have people who, in their minds, are fighting for conservatism, in opposing Trump.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I think it\u2019s kind of ironic, because Trump — because he is a fighter and because he is willing to get dirty — will actually end up manifesting more conservative policy being less conservative than these lofty perch conservatives could ever hope to implement.\u00a0 So I think that they\u2019re gonna get a lot more conservatism out of Donald Trump than they would out of, like you said, any of the other 16 candidates.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, I\u2019ll tell you what: If you listen to that speech that Trump gave today, I think the Never Trumpers would be applauding it if somebody like Ronald Reagan gave it.\u00a0 Can I tell you?\u00a0 I never heard McCain or Romney spell out American foreign policy this effectively, and this is not a cut.\u00a0 I\u2019m not trying to be critical here.\u00a0 It\u2019s not my point.\u00a0 But this was right on point, and it was clearly America first.<\/p>\n

It was clearly America as the solution to the world\u2019s problems.\u00a0 It was clearly… It was conservative in much of its identification.\u00a0 So you may be right about your ultimate point here that the Trump victory promotes conservatism down the road, but it\u2019s not the kind that the Never Trumpers want it to be.\u00a0 ‘Cause they don\u2019t think Trump is a conservative, and so Trump as the face of conservatism (as they see it) is something they just can\u2019t stomach.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
