RUSH:\u00a0 Thank you very much.\u00a0 I appreciate that.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Um, I\u2019m in the car in a very notoriously bad area for reception so I hope I don\u2019t lose you.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You sound fine right now.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I have a question and then a favor to ask of you.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 All right.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Obviously Crazy Bernie had no chance to win.\u00a0 He knew it, everybody else knew it, but now everybody else knows it because of the release of all of those emails.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Mmm.<\/p>\n

CALLER: So what was his incentive to continue to go?\u00a0 He knew he\u2019d have to give a concession speech. He knew that his followers were gonna be upset. He probably knew that many of them were not gonna support Hillary. So why stay in it?\u00a0 Did it get out of his control? Did he not think he would be as popular as he was?<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Oh, no.\u00a0 No, no, no.\u00a0 Well, maybe at the beginning when he thought it was pipe dream, but I think as this thing went on he got totally sucked in by it, even though he knew that the deck was stacked. Remember, these people have egos like you can\u2019t believe.\u00a0 They have to have.\u00a0 In order to do this, you have to have an outsized ego. I don\u2019t care how they portray themselves, they have huge egos, an ego such that the nation can\u2019t survive without me.<\/p>\n

They really do. You almost have to believe that to put up with everything else you go through, and I really believe that he thought — even though he knew the game was rigged — that he could put enough pressure on \u2019em to expose it.\u00a0 I think he thought he could upset what was rigged.\u00a0 And I think as it went on, I think he transformed from “I don\u2019t have a chance in this \u2019cause the game\u2019s rigged” to thinking he might actually win.<\/p>\n

And then it became, “I\u2019m gonna control this platform! I\u2019m gonna make sure this party stands for what I believe.”\u00a0 He got self-absorbed in it and didn\u2019t want to let go.\u00a0 He\u2019s got millions of people! This guy couldn\u2019t get noticed by an ant farm six months ago, and now half the country\u2019s mesmerized with him?\u00a0 He never wanted to let go of that.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 So here it is.\u00a0 I got an email from a Democrat disagreeing with me.\u00a0 I\u2019m assuming it\u2019s a Democrat.\u00a0 ‘Cause I told the last caller, the last caller wanted to know, why did Bernie stay in this when he knew the game was rigged.\u00a0 And I went through all the reasons that Bernie would stay in.\u00a0 But at the top was the ego aspect of it.<\/p>\n

Seriously, folks, here\u2019s a guy, Bernie Sanders, who didn\u2019t have — this is true — he did not have a full-time job until he was 40.\u00a0 He was 40 years old before he got his first job.\u00a0 He\u2019s never made any money.\u00a0 He\u2019s the kind of guy that walks down the street and you don\u2019t notice him, there\u2019s nothing particularly noteworthy. Then this happens and a guy who couldn\u2019t get noticed by an ant farm a year ago is now drawing crowds in excess of 10,000.<\/p>\n

It went to his head and he loved it. He ate it up and he wanted more of it.\u00a0 And at some point I think he did become convinced that if he kept at this, that they could overwhelm these superdelegates. That at some point he could cause so much unrest that the party would have no choice but than to acknowledge that he was winning everything.\u00a0 I think that\u2019s one of the reasons he hung in.\u00a0 I really think he was trying to overthrow what had been rigged against him.\u00a0 And at some point it became apparent to him that this wasn\u2019t gonna happen.<\/p>\n

So I get this email during the break.\u00a0 “You know, that\u2019s crazy.\u00a0 You just make things up about people all the time.”\u00a0 I\u2019m paraphrasing.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t print the email.\u00a0 I have the thrust of it here.\u00a0 “If that\u2019s why people did things, you\u2019d be out there all the time.\u00a0 You think people want this \u2019cause of crowds and \u2019cause of ego.\u00a0 You\u2019d be out there all the time.\u00a0 That doesn\u2019t explain why he did it.\u00a0 Otherwise you\u2019d be out there doing the same.\u00a0 You\u2019d be doing speeches.”\u00a0 And I said before the break, no.<\/p>\n

That would be the last reason for me.\u00a0 That stuff makes me uncomfortable, actually.\u00a0 But I just know people like in Bernie\u2019s case, you get caught up in it.\u00a0 It\u2019s easy to believe. I\u2019ve always tried to keep things like that in perspective.\u00a0 But it\u2019s easy for people get lost in it.\u00a0 How many people do you know in your life, be it where you live or be it somebody who has decent amount of fame, how many people do you know who think they are really big time something, and they\u2019re really when you get down to, nothing.\u00a0 And yet you marvel at how they\u2019re able to convince themselves they\u2019re really, really huge.<\/p>\n

I know people, you wouldn\u2019t believe the number of people.\u00a0 I know people with programs that have an audience of three million who really do believe that the whole country is watching or listening to \u2019em, and they get lost in that and they lose their perspective, and they end up losing their humility.\u00a0 And for people that like that kind of adoration, it can be seductive.\u00a0 And I do think Bernie got caught up in some of that.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not saying he didn\u2019t believe what he was saying.\u00a0 I\u2019m not saying he wasn\u2019t a movement guy.\u00a0 He clearly was.\u00a0 I think he had all the ingredients there.\u00a0 Anyway, just to explain the snarky email.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
