RUSH: We have a story from TIME magazine here.\u00a0 President Obama says that he didn\u2019t watch any of this convention last night and he didn\u2019t see Trump\u2019s speech, but that he\u2019s heard that it was dark and dismal and it “doesn\u2019t ‘jibe\u2019 with the facts.”\u00a0 “President Obama on Friday assumed… He was at a joint press conference the president of Mexico, and TIME magazine says <\/a>that he “assumed the role as fact-checker-in-chief following Donald Trump\u2019s … convention speech, saying the picture painted by the GOP doesn\u2019t line up with reality.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what Obama said: “This idea that America is somehow on the verge of collapse. This vision of violence and chaos everywhere doesn\u2019t really jibe with the experience of most people. I think it is important just to be absolutely clear here that some of the fears that were expressed throughout the week just don\u2019t jibe with the facts.” Here\u2019s what… I don\u2019t think… Maybe he doesn\u2019t get this; I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

If you live inside the Beltway and a certain section of inside the Beltway — if you\u2019re wealthy, if you\u2019re in the political realm, if you\u2019re a lobbyist, if you\u2019re in elective office, if you are a staffer, if you have anything to do with the political class and the government class — then of course you\u2019re not gonna see any crime! You\u2019re not gonna see any disorder. You\u2019re not gonna see any unemployment. You\u2019re not gonna see any economic distress.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t exist where you are.<\/p>\n

You have to go to other sectors of Washington, DC, to find the abject crime — and, believe me, the political class wouldn\u2019t even know how to get there!\u00a0 Well, they\u2019d probably know how to avoid it so they probably do know where it is.\u00a0 But here\u2019s the thing.\u00a0 You know, the fact that Obama says, “This vision of violence and chaos everywhere doesn\u2019t really jibe with the experience of most people”?\u00a0 Mr. President, here\u2019s the thing I don\u2019t think you get:<\/p>\n

When we see five or six police officers killed and 11 or 12 more wounded in an assassination-type shooting in Dallas, and we think it can happen everywhere.\u00a0 We don\u2019t sit here and say, “Oh, that\u2019s Dallas. No big deal! Doesn\u2019t affect us.” It hits every one of us.\u00a0 And then few short days later it happens in Baton Rouge, and it hits us again, because we\u2019re all Americans!\u00a0 And, like Trump said last night, we are all one family.<\/p>\n

And just \u2019cause I don\u2019t live in Dallas doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m ho-hum about what happened there.\u00a0 My heart was broken, and I was angry about it, and I was ticked off, and I was hurt, and I couldn\u2019t imagine what it felt like for the people who were directly impacted by.\u00a0 Same thing with Baton Rouge.\u00a0 And I don\u2019t care where you want to go. Fort Hood? You want to go to San Bernardino, you wanting to Orlando, you want to go to Chattanooga, you want to go to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania? Wherever this stuff is, it bothers every one of us.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s happening in our country, and it isn\u2019t stopping! And for the president to say, “This is so overblown. The idea there\u2019s…” This kind of stuff did not happen before eight years ago!\u00a0 Yeah, you had strife.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t have mass assassinations of cops in cold blood like we have now.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t have a religion scattered all over the world making guarantees, not threats.\u00a0 And we didn\u2019t have an administration that wasn\u2019t taking any of it seriously!<\/p>\n

We didn\u2019t have an administration that when those threats… When we were under fire, when we were threatened in the past, we are used to presidents taking them seriously and dealing with them.\u00a0 We have not become accustomed to a president that doesn\u2019t care!\u00a0 We haven\u2019t become accustomed to a president who seems to side with the perpetrators.\u00a0 So this idea that everybody\u2019s exaggerating how much this is happening? We\u2019re not exaggerating!<\/p>\n
