RUSH: Let me ask you a question.\u00a0 As I read conservative blogs last night and today, and as I watch the Drive-By Media, and as I read the conventional Drive-By Media and their websites or newspapers, whatever, I mean it\u2019s everywhere, is the point. To them, the only thing that really matters tonight — well, maybe that\u2019s overstating it a bit, but the big thing tonight, the big thing to look for tonight, will Ted Cruz endorse Donald Trump, or will Ted Cruz just do a speech that sets himself up for 2020?<\/p>\n

And others are saying, like Reagan did in 1976. Reagan, after losing to Ford in a narrow convention, went out and delivered a great speech that set himself up for 1980.\u00a0 Except that Reagan did endorse Ford.\u00a0 But I really wonder what you think.\u00a0 Folks, this is not in any way a comment on Ted Cruz.\u00a0 It\u2019s not a thumbs up or thumbs down.\u00a0 It\u2019s nothing to do with my thoughts on Ted Cruz, which should be understood by now.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a political question.\u00a0 Is that the most important thing tonight, whether Ted Cruz endorses Donald Trump or not?\u00a0 Because, to the Drive-By Media and many in the conservative media, that\u2019s all that matters tonight.\u00a0 And if Cruz doesn\u2019t endorse, we got problems.\u00a0 We got big problems.<\/p>\n

And I just wonder what you think of it.\u00a0 I think it\u2019s an example of something.\u00a0 But I\u2019m not gonna tell you yet because when I say things, it pretty much sums everything up, there\u2019s nothing left to be said. So I\u2019ll hold off on this.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Thank you, sir.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 The story of the day today is, you know, the media\u2019s very concerned about whether or not Ted Cruz is going to endorse Donald Trump tonight.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 And as a Trump supporter, I do believe that Donald Trump can beat Hillary Clinton in November without the support of Ted Cruz.\u00a0 It would be great to have his support and Jeb Bush and, you know, whoever the other guys are who are not extending support to Donald Trump.\u00a0 You know, it would be nice, but I think he can win without it.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Right.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 But my question is, I want to go back to the very first Republican presidential debate that occurred.\u00a0 I believe it was the very first one, you know, 10 candidates up on stage. And the very first question that was asked to all the candidates was: Would you unequivocally support the eventual Republican nominee for president? And they made them all raise their hand and promise to support the eventual nominee.\u00a0 And, of course, we all remember Donald Trump was the only one who didn\u2019t raise his hand.<\/p>\n

Which caused a firestorm for that week, right, that he wouldn\u2019t support the nominee.\u00a0 And he eventually did. He eventually came out and said he would support the nominee and he provided the letter that he signed saying that he would.\u00a0 But my question is, you know, Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz are coming out and saying that they are not going to support Donald Trump.\u00a0 They all made that promise back then, and I believe they all signed letters back then saying that they would. So I don\u2019t even understand how it can be an issue today.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You don\u2019t understand how can they not…? So you think because they signed and made the pledge, that that\u2019s it? Your word is your bond?\u00a0 Trust what you say and that\u2019s it?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 They backed Trump into a corner. You know, the media and the RNC backed Trump into a corner —<\/p>\n

RUSH: No. Nobody —<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 — to do it.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry, but nobody expects these people to keep their promises.\u00a0 Those days are long gone.\u00a0 Do you think is anybody gonna hold any of this against any of these guys?\u00a0 Kasich?\u00a0 Kasich signed all that, and Kasich\u2019s not even there.\u00a0 His nose is so out of joint, he won\u2019t go. He\u2019s a governor in a state where this is all happening.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Agreed.\u00a0 Agreed.\u00a0 And, you know, I think that\u2019s the sad truth.\u00a0 I think you\u2019re 100% correct, and I think that\u2019s driven a lot of the changes we\u2019ve seen over the last year.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Yeah, of all the reasons… I could be wrong about this, but let\u2019s say it\u2019s Election Day and we\u2019re doing an exit poll. People are coming out of polls and they\u2019re asked, “Who\u2019d you vote for?”\u00a0 “Yeah, I voted for Hillary Clinton.”\u00a0 “Really?\u00a0 Why?”\u00a0 “Well, because, because Ted Cruz promised to support Trump, and he didn\u2019t. So to hell with that! I voted Hillary.”\u00a0 I just don\u2019t see people voting because of these pledges that are either followed or not.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think… It\u2019s rare anymore when people keep a promise, meaning nobody expects them to not keep them.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if that\u2019s an indictment of the whole process system or not, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019m wrong about that.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
