RUSH: \u00a0Folks, I don\u2019t want to make things about me.\u00a0 I never, ever, try to make it about me, but sometimes sharing personal anecdotes is a way to convey an opinion.\u00a0 Now you know, in case you ever wondered, why I do not listen to other people on the radio.\u00a0 I never have because I don\u2019t want to inadvertently hear something I think is clever and then inadvertently use it and then inadvertently be accused of copying somebody.<\/p>\n

So I don\u2019t listen to other people, and it\u2019s why I don\u2019t watch a lot of television anymore.\u00a0 It\u2019s why I don\u2019t watch a lot of opinion stuff.\u00a0 There\u2019s so much out there, and there are so many people just waiting to tell you that you stole whatever you said from them.\u00a0 That\u2019s why my news gathering is on my own, and I don\u2019t pay much attention to what is spoken on radio and TV.\u00a0 I do a lot of reading.<\/p>\n

One of two things happened with Melania Trump.\u00a0 Either this was a planned act of sabotage, and you can take that and run with it as far as you want. That\u2019s an easy cop-out excuse. Or, this is what happens when you try to go moderate. This is what happens when you try to tone things down. You look at the way other people have done it successfully, if you\u2019re a speechwriter I\u2019m talking about. If you\u2019re on the staff putting all this stuff for the convention together, it comes time to write Melania\u2019s, English is not her first Lang language, it\u2019s no-brainer that she\u2019s gonna be given some assistance in writing the speech, and she\u2019s gonna rehearse it and so forth.<\/p>\n

And so you start, if you\u2019re one of the speechwriters, if you\u2019re on that staff there\u2019s no doubt you consult.\u00a0 It\u2019s just an unfortunate thing when you get right down to it that somebody lifted a portion of a speech delivered by Moochelle Obama.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if it was laziness. I don\u2019t know if this was a setup to embarrass Melania. I don\u2019t know if this was designed to create what it has created.\u00a0 Aside from this, you\u2019d think nothing else happened at that convention last night, except this.<\/p>\n

Washington Post:\u00a0 “The GOP\u2019s Despicable First Night of the Republican National Convention.”<\/a> Folks, I\u2019m gonna tell you something. Despite what the Drive-Bys are writing about, they are scared to death.\u00a0 They are scared to death of this convention \u2019cause they\u2019ve not dealt with anything like it before.\u00a0 And to them, it\u2019s new territory.\u00a0 They don\u2019t like Trump to begin with. They don\u2019t like the Trump campaign. They don\u2019t like this is outside the insider rules of the game. They don\u2019t like this is outside the playbook and the manual for how to do conventions and how to do campaigns.<\/p>\n

So here, listen to this.\u00a0 Stephen Stromberg writing at the Washington Post.\u00a0 “The evening took an early dip into the gutter.”\u00a0 Anybody watching this last night think any aspect of it was in the gutter compared to what we see from Democrat Party every damn day?\u00a0 The Democrat Party\u2019s policy agenda has taken this country into the gutter.\u00a0 That\u2019s what we\u2019re all trying to climb out of, for crying out loud.\u00a0 We are surrounded by sewage and waste and detritus or detritus, however you wish to pronounce it. We\u2019re surrounded by debris.\u00a0 This country\u2019s been taken so low that when you look up, the gutter is what you see.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Washington Post:\u00a0 “The evening took an early dip into the gutter when Republicans trotted out Patricia Smith, a grieving mother of a man who died in the Benghazi attacks, who practically accused Hillary Clinton of murdering her child. ‘For all of this loss, for all of this grief, for all of the cynicism the tragedy in Benghazi has wrought upon America, I blame Hillary Clinton,\u2019 she said. ‘I blame Hillary Clinton personally for the death of my son.\u2019 Multiple investigations suggest different conclusions, but few of the presentations Monday night were substantive. The fact that Smith seemed to be on the verge of tears conveyed the desired pathos. Her grief-stricken anger is understandable.”<\/p>\n
