RUSH:  So Donald Trump, what\u2019s he doing?  He\u2019s in Monessen, Pennsylvania, western Pennsylvania standing in front of, it looks like, an aluminum Christmas tree.  It obviously is not that, so what is that?  It looks like a bunch of different colored cans have been squished together like Oddjob squished the car in Goldfinger and it\u2019s obviously recycled.  But he\u2019s speaking on the prompter.  Have you been listening to it in there?  You haven\u2019t been listening to it?  That\u2019s right.  You\u2019re screening calls.  You probably think I\u2019m running a test.  No.  He\u2019s on the prompter.  I listened to a little bit during the break here. <\/p>\n

And it\u2019s a different Trump.  It\u2019s a different Trump.  Well, it\u2019s a difference in somebody speaking improvisationally and somebody reading a prompter.  He\u2019s making his points.  He\u2019s not changing what he says.  He\u2019s attacking Hillary and the elites and talking about himself as the best way for people to recapture the American dream.  No, the message is there.  The crowd is not as enthusiastic as a usual Trump crowd is.  You know, somebody speaks on a prompter, the audience is also attuned to wait for the applause lines.  And if they\u2019re not obvious, then they don\u2019t applaud.  Sometimes the speaker thinks it\u2019s an applause line, waits, and when there\u2019s no applause, uh-oh, uh-oh.  That hasn\u2019t happened.  I\u2019m just telling you there\u2019s a difference here between going out and doing it from reading the prompter.<\/line><\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH:  Okay.  So Trump is at the Alumisource plant in Monessen.  By the way, when you get home or you have a chance to watch this you\u2019ll note that Trump\u2019s hair is not orange today.  It\u2019s actually gray.  Did you notice that in there?  Yeah, you didn\u2019t until I pointed it out.  His hair is gray.  He\u2019s on the prompter. <\/p>\n

Now, the audience here includes employees of Alumisource.  The Drive-Bys are there and a few invited guests.  It\u2019s not a typical Trump rally.  There\u2019s gonna be one of those later today over at Ohio University, the eastern campus at Ohio University.  That\u2019s scheduled for later today.  It\u2019s gonna look entirely different than this.  No, I\u2019m just telling you.  He\u2019s on the prompter.  There\u2019s a difference when Trump\u2019s out there doing a rally and just improvving and doing what he does and reading the message on the prompter. <\/p>\n

He\u2019s not experienced reading.  The prompter\u2019s not easy to do.  I mean, you can read it, everybody can follow the prompter, but, you know, if your eyes stay glued to the screen you\u2019re gonna look like you\u2019re reading, not like you\u2019re speaking.  I tried a prompter once; I couldn\u2019t do it.  It\u2019s too constraining.  I just said, “Screw it.”  I went off message. I forget what it was even for.  I don\u2019t even remember.  Long, long time ago. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m not commenting.  I\u2019m like Trey Gowdy.  I\u2019m not characterizing anything here.  I\u2019m just reporting the who, what, when and where.  Draw your own conclusions.  You can watch it.  Just watch it.  Watch it.  Why do you need me telling you what it\u2019s about?  I\u2019m just following the lead of the Republican committee.  No.  I\u2019m just observing there\u2019s a difference.  It appears to me — I mean, until I know, it appears to me that some handlers have gotten hold of Trump and they have put him on prompter because they don\u2019t want any variance from the message. <\/line><\/p>\n

I\u2019m not saying it\u2019s not his message.  It is.  I mean, he\u2019s saying the same things he always says, and you can tell at points he stops reading and starts commenting on what he just said.  It\u2019s almost like he\u2019s commenting on what somebody else just wrote.  He amplifies on it and he pounds it, and then he goes back to reading.  And when he\u2019s not reading, he\u2019s looking right at you.  When he is reading, he\u2019s looking either to the left or to the right and not varying it.  It\u2019s when he goes off the prompter and looks straight ahead when he\u2019s improvising, that you can tell he\u2019s not reading. Then he switches to the other side. <\/p>\n

But the audience is enthusiastic.  It\u2019s the same Trump message, how would I characterize this?  Narrowed.  What\u2019s the word I\u2019m looking for here?  Oh, well, I can\u2019t think.  I\u2019m thinking of a musical digital technic term.  Not spectrum, but what is the word I\u2019m looking for?  I can\u2019t think of it.  Anyway, the prompter has his message narrowed.  He\u2019s on a narrower road and he\u2019s not taking any off ramps.  You know, he\u2019s sticking right to it, which is I\u2019m sure what the handlers want here. <\/p>\n

Now, don\u2019t misunderstand, he\u2019s better reading the prompter than Hillary. Don\u2019t anybody confuse me.  I\u2019m just observing that it\u2019s different from a Trump rally.  That\u2019s all.  See, now he\u2019s not on the prompter. Now he\u2019s ad-libbing. His hands are moving, he\u2019s gyrating.  Now he\u2019s back on the prompter.  It\u2019s stupid of me to talk about this \u2019cause you know what\u2019s happening. People are now rushing to try to turn on the TV to see what I\u2019m describing.  Don\u2019t do that, folks.  Wait \u2019til the show is over, then go find it.  It\u2019s gonna be there.  <\/p>\n

RUSH:  I don\u2019t want my back misunderstanding me on Trump and this prompter business.  I\u2019m just observing it\u2019s a different guy, but he finished this speech in typical Trump barnburner status, and he was not reading the prompter.  He finished it by saying, “You\u2019re gonna be proud again.  You\u2019re gonna be proud of your president, which is a big deal. You\u2019re gonna be proud, proud, proud of your country.  You\u2019re gonna be proud again. You\u2019re gonna be happy. We\u2019re gonna be richer.”  It was a great, great, great finale here in a state that he\u2019s gonna have to win, you would think. It\u2019d be great if he did. Pennsylvania is one of these Rust Belt states that traditionally goes Democrat. <\/p>\n
