RUSH: Continuing to play off the possibility of a debate between Trump and Crazy Bernie, let me ask you a question. Let\u2019s say Mitt Romney… What would you do if Mitt Romney decided he wanted to pick off Bernie Sanders voters by appealing to them? What would you say if Jeb Bush did it, if Jeb Bush was the nominee? If Jeb Bush was out there or Romney or Marco Rubio or anybody — Cruz, if any of \u2019em– had gone out there and said, “You know what? I\u2019m gonna debate Bernie Sanders! I\u2019m gonna make a play for his voters.” What would you call \u2019em?<\/p>\n

No, no, no, no, no. I\u2019m not suggesting that somebody can be the nominee. It\u2019s a hypothetical question. What happens…? Trump is being praised. Trump is being heralded. “Look, Trump is brilliant! He\u2019s gonna go out and he\u2019s gonna pick off Bernie voters. He\u2019s gonna bring Bernie voters into the Republican Party! Wow, cool.” What if Ryan did it? What if Jeb did it? What would they be called? They\u2019d be called worse than RINOs. They\u2019d be called sellouts. They would be…<\/p>\n

Who knows what they would be called, but it would be way beyond RINO. So why isn\u2019t Trump? There is an answer to this. Why? Trump —<\/p>\n

Maybe they\u2019ll see Trump\u2019s the outsider, he\u2019s not establishment, but he is the Republican nominee. And he\u2019s Teflon.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes, hi, Rush. Thank you so much for taking my call.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yes, ma\u2019am.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I have a quandary. I\u2019ve been a part of the grassroots movement since early 2009 when I lived out in Colorado, and I have a lot of hard-core conservative friends that I\u2019ve been trying to get on board with going to Trump\u2019s side, and it\u2019s proving to be extremely difficult. I just posted an article on my Facebook page last night by Dennis Prager, that he wrote in the National Review on the 24th of his reasoning. He gave nine very good reasons to vote for Trump. And I posted that on my Facebook page, and it\u2019s just more of the same, so I was hoping you could help me and give me a strategy to start to try to convince these people how their thinking is flawed.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, before I could help in this, I need to know what their objections are.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Their objections are he\u2019s the same as Hillary Rodham Clinton. He\u2019s no different.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Trump\u2019s no different than Hillary?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay. What else?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Of course, they don\u2019t like him as a person. He\u2019s crass, he\u2019s rude, he\u2019s obnoxious, on and on and on.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Oh, that\u2019s a… I just tell them to grow up, if that\u2019s the case. There aren\u2019t any angels out there. For crying out loud, what a childish reason. That\u2019s… You know what? That\u2019s a substitute for substantive opposition to the guy. “He\u2019s mean! He treats people rude.” Everybody does that at one time or another. That\u2019s just a cop-out. That means they don\u2019t have a substantive reason to oppose him.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah. I agree with you. I\u2019m just astounded. These are people I\u2019ve been standing by since 2009.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Are they Tea Party types, Tea Party conservatives? You said “grassroots.” I\u2019m assuming it\u2019s Tea Party.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Tea Party people.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I\u2019ll tell you what\u2019s the big problem there: Trump does not believe in limited government. It\u2019s not in his universe, and that\u2019s why the Tea Party exists. The Tea Party exists to reduce the size of government, government spending, and Trump\u2019s out there saying, “I\u2019m not gonna cut Social Security. I don\u2019t think we ought to! I don\u2019t think we ought to even talk about cutting Social Security.” My guess is that\u2019s one of the primary reasons they\u2019ve got.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
