RUSH:\u00a0 You do not sound nervous at all, and I\u2019m very appreciative of your kind words.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Well, thank you so much.\u00a0 Rush, I\u2019m calling because I am a Hispanic woman, and I just want everyone to know that those polls are totally wrong.\u00a0 You know, there\u2019s more people — more Hispanic people — that are for Trump for the exact reason that you\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 They\u2019re tired of the wussies of the GOP not calling Clinton on anything.\u00a0 For years, they\u2019ve never done that, and Trump is popular exactly for that.\u00a0 And I hope that all your callers and all your fans that are listening —<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Wait.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 — will take that into consideration.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Hang on.\u00a0 Hang on just…\u00a0 What polls are you talking about?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 People say, “Aw, he\u2019s getting tawdry or whatever.”\u00a0 Well, you know what?\u00a0 You were absolutely correct earlier in that.<\/a><\/p>\n

RUSH: I got confused because you started telling me how much Hispanics like Trump, and I hadn\u2019t seen a poll on that. I\u2019ve seen a poll that Trump\u2019s not doing well with Asians, but I didn\u2019t see anything about Hispanics yet. But you\u2019re saying that it\u2019s good that Trump\u2019s going after the tawdry stuff because he\u2019s the only guy who will; somebody has to and the Republicans haven\u2019t?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 That is correct, yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t make you nervous? It doesn\u2019t make you think Trump is doing himself some damage by doing it?\u00a0 You\u2019re supportive of it?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Well, I mean, I\u2019m like most people.\u00a0 To be honest with you, I like Trump.\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t my first choice. But, I mean, I think he\u2019s the only one that can beat her.\u00a0 He\u2019s not afraid of, you know, shame.\u00a0 It\u2019s really true.\u00a0 And the GOP is.\u00a0 But if I may, I\u2019d like to make, really, one of the main points that I\u2019ve been wanting to get to you for the last two months.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, fine. Have at it.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 It\u2019s that people are very disappointed, the people that were for Cruz — of which, I was one of them. My preference was Cruz, but we\u2019ve got Trump; I have no problems with him whatsoever.\u00a0 But I want to remind everybody, everyone — and I have a lot of friends like myself — that Cruz would never have gotten as far as he did, nor would have Rubio, had Trump not thrown his name into the ring, because we were programmed to vote for Jeb Bush, and Jeb Bush could never have beat Hillary.\u00a0 But all my friends say the same thing.\u00a0 Had it not been for Trump, Cruz and Rubio would have not have gotten as far.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Interesting theory.\u00a0 Let\u2019s stop for a moment and think about this.\u00a0 There was that PAC. I forget the name of the PAC.\u00a0 Mike Murphy, GOP consultant, ran the PAC. It raised $115 million for Jeb.\u00a0 Jeb was… Before this whole thing began, he was the GOP presumptive nominee.\u00a0 Everybody in the establishment said it was a done deal.\u00a0 And let\u2019s remember, one of Jeb\u2019s objectives was to win the nomination by losing the base.\u00a0 Remember that?<\/p>\n

What that meant was that the Republican establishment was finally gonna win this nomination and the base of the party was not gonna be happy. They were not gonna have been a factor. That money was gonna be how they were going to do it.\u00a0 They were going to divide all the conservative opposition to Jeb, making sure that no conservative candidate got anywhere near enough votes to win.\u00a0 That money was going to be used to promote Jeb and rip into conservatives, and Jeb was gonna be the nominee because of that money.<\/p>\n

The old political playbook and rules.<\/p>\n

Now, her theory here is that had Trump not entered the race, that\u2019s what would have happened, and that Cruz and Rubio would not have gotten anywhere near as far as they got.\u00a0 Now, that may be true.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t heard a whole lot of analysis of that, so I\u2019m pondering this for the first time.\u00a0 And I gotta be careful.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to insult anybody.\u00a0 She\u2019s a Cruzer, by the way.\u00a0 You heard her say she\u2019s a Cruz supporter but that she now likes Trump.\u00a0 But it\u2019s an interesting thing to think about.<\/p>\n

Imagine that GOP primary starting last July with no Trump in it and $115 million of Jeb money being spent against Cruz.\u00a0 The establishment hated Cruz. They despised him. They would have not wreaked as much havoc on Rubio.\u00a0 Of course, Rubio had to split with Jeb anyway, but they were all factoring Jeb was gonna be the guy.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t matter whether he was a good candidate or not.\u00a0 The money was gonna make the difference.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n

He could be a dryball on the campaign trail. He could be a stiff. He could be exciting. It didn\u2019t matter.\u00a0 The money was going to make it possible.\u00a0 And even after Trump got in, they still thought that. They continued to miscalculate.\u00a0 They thought Trump would implode, Steady Eddie.\u00a0 Cruz said, “You know what?\u00a0 I\u2019m not going anywhere near Trump.\u00a0 If Trump explodes, I want to get his voters, so I\u2019m not gonna rip into him.”\u00a0 It\u2019s an interesting theory that Cruz and Rubio would not have gotten nearly as far as they did had not it been for Trump.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
