{"id":213628,"date":"2016-05-20T18:46:02","date_gmt":"2016-05-20T22:46:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/172.24.32.11\/daily\/2016\/05\/20\/how_about_voting_for_gary_johnson_rush_\/"},"modified":"2017-07-07T11:51:06","modified_gmt":"2017-07-07T15:51:06","slug":"how_about_voting_for_gary_johnson_rush_","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/admin.rushlimbaugh.com\/daily\/2016\/05\/20\/how_about_voting_for_gary_johnson_rush_\/","title":{"rendered":"How About Voting for Gary Johnson, Rush?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/live-rush-limbaugh.pantheonsite.io\/videos\/37\/71546\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img class=\"alignright\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/listentoit.jpg\" alt=\"Listen to it Button\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<section>RUSH: Here\u2019s Keith in Atlanta.\u00a0 Keith, I\u2019m glad you waited.\u00a0 You\u2019re next on Open Line Friday.\u00a0 Hi.<\/p>\n<p>CALLER:\u00a0 Thank you for taking my call, Rush.<\/p>\n<p>RUSH:\u00a0 Yes, sir.<\/p>\n<p>CALLER:\u00a0 Hey, so, I\u2019ve been a registered Republican for 30 years, and like a lot of folks, I\u2019m not real happy with where we sit right now with election choices.\u00a0 And I know conventional wisdom states that third-party candidates just don\u2019t have a chance in our system, but this has been a year that\u2019s stood conventional wisdom on its ear, and I went to this nonpartisan website, and it turns out I side with Libertarian Gary Johnson.\u00a0 And it occurs to me that probably most of Bernie\u2019s followers would go to him and most of the disaffected Republicans might be interested.\u00a0 And then you look at the in-betweens with the independents, and maybe there\u2019s a chance to have a sane choice between Trump and Hillary.\u00a0 And I\u2019d like your thoughts.<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"eZObject_122720\" class=\"img_middle\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Open-Line-Friday-Gary-Johnson-A.jpg\" align=\"middle\" \/>RUSH:\u00a0 Well, Gary Johnson\u2019s name comes up regularly &#8212; by that I mean once or twice a week &#8212; here on the program, and every four years, every presidential year we entertain calls from people who want to go the Libertarian route because either they\u2019re Libertarians or they\u2019re just turned off by the Republicans or Democrats.\u00a0 And every four years, they think that\u2019s the year that the third-party candidate can win.\u00a0 And the third-party candidate never does.\u00a0 It just not&#8230; It\u2019s not arithmetically possible.<\/p>\n<p>There aren\u2019t enough disaffected Republicans and Democrats to go third-party. The only way it could happen, Keith, is if the third-party candidate could get enough votes to prevent either candidate from getting 270 electoral votes, in which case the election would then be decided by the House of Representatives.\u00a0 The House of Representatives would elect the president, by vote, among the top three vote getters in the general, which in this case would be Trump, Hillary, and Gary Johnson.\u00a0 And since the Republicans control the House, Donald Trump would be elected president.<\/p>\n<p>The Republicans in the House would pick him &#8212; and, if the Democrats ran it, it would be Hillary.\u00a0 Neither of them are gonna vote for Gary Johnson.\u00a0 I also think &#8212; and I mentioned this yesterday.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t be so&#8230; A lot of people say, &#8220;It\u2019s gone too far Rush! It can\u2019t happen; it\u2019s not possible. There\u2019s no way they could mend enough fences; it\u2019s gotten too brutal.\u00a0 I mean, Barbara Boxer is out there saying she feared for her life at the Nevada convention!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img id=\"eZObject_122742\" class=\"img_right\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/513517242_large.jpg\" align=\"right\" \/>If Hillary were to put Bernie on the ticket as the veep, that would eliminate all Democrat disaffecteds going to Gary Johnson.\u00a0 If you put Bernie on the ticket, then his voters stay Democrat, and Hillary may be forced to seriously consider something like this.\u00a0 She\u2019s&#8230; Her momentum is plummeting.\u00a0 And it may be &#8212; I don\u2019t know &#8212; that if Bernie\u2019s her vice presidential nominee, then some of his voters (eight, 10% of them) are saying they\u2019re interested in voting for Trump. That may hold up; it may not. If he\u2019s on the Democrat ticket&#8230;?<\/p>\n<p>Bernie would do it in a heartbeat, I think.\u00a0 It\u2019s Hillary that would be the stumbling block.\u00a0 Although it may be the other way around.\u00a0 But either way, I think the scenarios add up to, once again, it being a really, really tall hill to climb for a third party.\u00a0 It\u2019s just&#8230; There\u2019s too much pro-Trump momentum out there. Even though you cite that a lot of people on the Republican side are fed up with him, don\u2019t like him, not happy, and so forth, there still isn\u2019t&#8230; I don\u2019t know if there are&#8230; The numbers are not there for a meaningful third-party candidate victory.\u00a0 A third party usually takes away from Republicans and would elect Hillary Clinton.\u00a0 And I think that probably holds up theoretically this year, too.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RUSH: Here\u2019s Keith in Atlanta.\u00a0 Keith, I\u2019m glad you waited.\u00a0 You\u2019re next on Open Line Friday.\u00a0 Hi.
