SCHIEFFER:\u00a0 Yes, I do.\u00a0 And, you know, after seeing what we saw over the weekend in Las Vegas with Bernie Sanders\u2019 people, and they\u2019re still turning out by the thousands as they did yesterday in California, I\u2019m beginning to wonder is he gonna mount a third-party run if he doesn\u2019t get the nomination.\u00a0 Is there gonna be a movement among his people to say, “Hey, we\u2019re not giving up, and we\u2019re gonna find another way to do this”?\u00a0 He\u2019s not a Democrat.\u00a0 This is the first time he\u2019s ever sought office as a Democrat.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Aw, come on, Bob, what do you mean he\u2019s not a Democrat?\u00a0 He\u2019s a Democrat!\u00a0 He\u2019s seeking the Democrat nomination.\u00a0 What do you mean he\u2019s not a Democrat?\u00a0 “This is the first time.”\u00a0 Yeah, yeah, he\u2019s a socialist, he\u2019s an independent, he\u2019s a Democrat! He\u2019s running for the Democrat nomination.\u00a0 He\u2019s seen as a more pure and better Democrat than Hillary by a bunch of his wacko supporters — sorry — by a bunch of his supporters.\u00a0 See, this is classic.\u00a0 This guy is so bad, we can\u2019t even have him thought of as a Democrat.\u00a0 He\u2019s not even a Democrat.\u00a0 He\u2019s an outsider.\u00a0 So they\u2019re worried Crazy Bernie\u2019s gonna go third-party.\u00a0 And so Norah O\u2019Donnell says, “Well, wait. Is Trump really turning out new voters, Bob?\u00a0 Is it just a group that already looks to the Republican Party?”<\/p>\n

SCHIEFFER:\u00a0 I am beginning to think that Trump could conceivably win.\u00a0 She is having a very, very difficult time.\u00a0 Trump\u2019s problem is going to be it is very difficult for anybody with the demographics of the electorate as it is today to win when you basically appeal to white people.\u00a0 There just aren\u2019t enough white people to do that anymore.<\/p>\n

KING:\u00a0 I don\u2019t know, I see white people everywhere.\u00a0 I see white people everywhere I go.\u00a0 And I like white people, Bob.\u00a0 And when you say there\u2019s not enough to win, really? I know the point he\u2019s making.<\/p>\n

SCHIEFFER:\u00a0 We\u2019ve made this point before, that he\u2019s gotta find a way to broaden his appeal, but I think it\u2019s possible.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t think it was possible before.\u00a0 Now I do.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 I can\u2019t remember the TV show, but almost this exact conversation happened between two characters.\u00a0 It was a black female CEO somewhere and somebody was telling her about all the success and this black CEO said, “I don\u2019t know, Fred.\u00a0 All I see is white people out there.”\u00a0 Oh, it was Scandal.\u00a0 And it was Kerry Washington as what\u2019s her name, Olivia Pope.\u00a0 “I don\u2019t know, there are a lot of white people out there.” Here\u2019s Gayle King, “I don\u2019t know, Bob, I see white people everywhere, everywhere I go, and I like white people, but I see white people everywhere I go.”<\/p>\n

And of course Bob\u2019s all we\u2019ll gloss over that, Gayle\u2019s not a racist. She can\u2019t be a racist.\u00a0 She\u2019s one of us.\u00a0 Serious point here.\u00a0 Trump has to broaden his appeal.\u00a0 He can\u2019t just get white people.<\/p>\n

See, these people make my point for me.\u00a0 Of course he\u2019s got more than white support.\u00a0 He\u2019s got African-Americans. Those two babes that do the videos, and they\u2019ve got a big group. He\u2019s got Hispanics.\u00a0 You know, this taco bowl.\u00a0 This is another thing.\u00a0 People just don\u2019t get it.\u00a0 Trump said “I love Hispanics” while eating from a taco bowl, right?\u00a0 And I actually saw somebody say — oh, that\u2019s right, Jeb Bush said that\u2019s like somebody eating a watermelon saying I love black people or eating fried chicken saying I love black people.\u00a0 You don\u2019t get it.\u00a0 Trump\u2019s putting everybody on.<\/p>\n

Did you did you see the excrement-eating grin on his face? He\u2019s got the fork poised over the taco bowl. “I love Hispanics!” And everybody, “Oh, my God,” is having the vapors. “He\u2019s being racist! He\u2019s being… Oh, no.\u00a0 No.”\u00a0 He\u2019s laughing at everybody, and the people that are supposed to be offended by this are laughing, too.\u00a0 That\u2019s what everybody is missing.\u00a0 The media will come along and not find the people laughing at it.\u00a0 They\u2019ll go out and find the righteously offended, the righteously indignant, which is easy to manufacture.<\/p>\n

I continue to marvel at how — even after all of this time — so many people still don\u2019t get how Trump is doing what he\u2019s doing.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Rick Perry. The Washington Examiner <\/a>here just this afternoon: “Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry predicted during a private phone call [today] that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump could carry more than 35 states in the November election.\u00a0 ‘The more I spend time with him, the more I talk with him, the more I see how he has analyzed this country properly at this point in time, I feel very comfortable that we\u2019re going to win,\u2019 Perry told donors during a conference call hosted by the pro-Trump Great America PAC.<\/p>\n

“‘I think we have the potential to win overwhelmingly,\u2019 he added. ‘I\u2019m talking a 35-, 36-, 37-state victory. Just a powerful win in November.\u2019\u00a0 Perry also said he doubts Trump will select a running mate simply to carry swing states like Ohio or Florida in November because [Trump] is capable of ‘carrying states himself.'”\u00a0 And picking a vice president based on winning a swing state: That\u2019s such old-school thinking.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s that old playbook that everybody wants to try to plug Trump into, and that\u2019s not the way he\u2019s gonna look at this.\u00a0 Trump may even say, “I don\u2019t even need a vice president to win!\u00a0 I\u2019m gonna win this by myself.\u00a0 I\u2019m gonna win this on my own. I\u2019ll pick a vice president here that\u2019s gonna continually make me look good by having people scared to death that this vice president could become president,” or some other such ego thing for laughs.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
