RUSH: But the point is Hillary\u2019s flawed.\u00a0Did you see she wants to put Bill in charge of the economy?\u00a0 You know, folks, I saw that and I\u2019ve been cramming. I got back about 6 p.m. last night.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been cramming.\u00a0 And I saw that and I saw Trump\u2019s tweet.\u00a0 I thought Trump\u2019s tweet just captured this perfectly.\u00a0 This is the essence of Trump.\u00a0 There\u2019s not a single Republican, elected Republican out there who could do this, I don\u2019t think.\u00a0 Not the way to put it.\u00a0 There\u2019s not a single elected Republican who would even think of this because doing this would not seem to be presidential or whatever.<\/p>\n

But Trump tweets out the following:\u00a0 “Crooked Hillary said her husband\u2019s gonna be in charge of the economy.\u00a0 If so, he should run, not her.\u00a0 Will he bring the ‘energizer\u2019 to D.C.?”\u00a0 It\u2019s logical.\u00a0 It\u2019s fair. It goes right to the heart of Hillary\u2019s phony feminism.\u00a0 It touches on the Clintons\u2019 wacko marriage.\u00a0 It puts both of them on the defense. It\u2019s funny. It\u2019s clever. It uses the nickname that Trump created and captures this “Energizer” stuff. But, more importantly, it didn\u2019t take a team of consultants. It didn\u2019t take any focus groups. It didn\u2019t take any polling. It took no test runs, trial runs. It didn\u2019t cost a lot of money. It\u2019s just one guy tweeting out what he thought on the spot — trolling. Trump trolling.<\/p>\n

You know, this New York Times story on Trump on Sunday<\/a>.\u00a0 I saw that, I read that.\u00a0 You know what my reaction to it was?\u00a0 I said, “These people at the New York Times, they do not get it.”\u00a0Everybody is still trying to attack Trump the way you would attack any Republican or any politician you want to decimate, but he\u2019s not that.\u00a0 His supporters are gonna brag about that story.\u00a0 Trump supporters are gonna say, “Finally we got a Bill Clinton-like dog in our party.\u00a0 Right on, dude!”\u00a0 They\u2019re gonna celebrate.\u00a0 To the people that were not reacting to it that way, that were concerned about it, we learned that the whole thing\u2019s made up, that the vast majority of that story is a bunch of lies, assembled lies.<\/p>\n

And you know what?\u00a0 We lament social media a lot on this program for various reasons \u2019cause I think it is destructive to individuals in this quest for fame that young people have and causes \u2019em to vomit everything there is about themselves. They give up any aspect of their privacy. But on the other hand social media has made it more and more difficult for traditional media to run hit pieces like this and get away with it because social media people can glom onto this, find the errors, find the mistakes, find the bias, find the outright lies and combat it instantly and put these two reporters on the defensive.<\/p>\n

And Trump has done that.\u00a0 Trump has put these two reporters on the defensive. Another Republican candidate probably would not have done this.\u00a0 They would have left it to a consultant, “I\u2019ll take care of it, Donald,” and nothing would have happened.\u00a0 “Because you can\u2019t fight the New York Times. The best we can do, just let the cycle pass, let it go and we wait for the next big story to come along and people forget about this.”\u00a0 And that\u2019s not the way this crowd plays it.\u00a0 That\u2019s the way traditional Republicans play.\u00a0 It\u2019s the way the Bush White House played everything.\u00a0 “Ah, let this go, don\u2019t respond to it, don\u2019t dignify it.\u00a0 We aren\u2019t gonna take the White House to the gutter and respond to this stuff. It will be forgotten by tomorrow when the next story comes around.”<\/p>\n

Except there was a new attack, sometimes two or three a day.\u00a0 Nobody forgot anything.\u00a0 Trump doesn\u2019t allow any grass to grow under any of these assaults.\u00a0 When he feels he\u2019s been wounded, he wants to go in and unwound himself, as he says.\u00a0 Anyway, when I saw that New York Times story, I didn\u2019t know what Dr. Krauthammer said, I just did my cramming when we got the audio sound bite roster.\u00a0 Krauthammer said, “If that\u2019s the best they\u2019ve got, we better just get to the inauguration here.”\u00a0 Dr. Krauthammer.\u00a0 Bill Kristol was in tears when he read it, but Dr. Krauthammer said it.<\/p>\n

<\/a>I said, “What\u2019s the hit piece?”\u00a0 I could see how they\u2019re trying to do a hit piece.\u00a0 They\u2019re trying to defame Trump.\u00a0 But, for crying out loud, where was anything like that with Bill Clinton?\u00a0 See, these people forget that everybody has long memories, and they are demonstrating, the New York Times is demonstrating their bias and their fraud and everything else by engaging in a Trump story like this and in the Bill Clinton story guess who ended up being the sex pervert?\u00a0 Ken Starr, who may to this day still be a virgin. Ken Starr became the sex pervert in the Lewinsky saga.\u00a0 And Bill Clinton became the angelic victim of the vast right-wing conspiracy.<\/p>\n

So the New York Times tries to run this hit piece on Trump and some of the women say, “Hey, I was misquoted, I wasn\u2019t fully quoted. I was taken out of context.”\u00a0 Norah O\u2019Donnell of CBS was virtually seething in an on-air interview with Ivanka Trump. (imitating O\u2019Donnell) “How can you even admit to being the daughter of such a bullying swine,” some such thing.\u00a0 I mean, that\u2019s not what she said, it\u2019s the attitude.\u00a0 You could see Norah O\u2019Donnell\u2019s face, nothing like the bathwater she\u2019s in. She has so much contempt for Ivanka, and Ivanka just rolled right over her with her definition of feminism.\u00a0 All this is coming up here in the audio sound bites.<\/p>\n

Bill Clinton running the economy.\u00a0 A lot of people had the reaction that Trump did.\u00a0 Well, if he\u2019s gonna run the economy, he should be running for president.\u00a0 My reaction to it is, not only that, it\u2019s Hillary admitting she can\u2019t get there without the guy.\u00a0 Plus there\u2019s this nostalgia of how great the nineties was economically.\u00a0 See, the problem here that nobody can address is that Hillary will not lay a hand on this lousy economy in her campaign.\u00a0 She\u2019s imprisoned by it because it\u2019s Obama\u2019s. She can attack Obamacare here and there, but the overall economy she\u2019s gotta be kind of hands off, because to go after that is to go after Obama and the last seven and a half, eight years.<\/p>\n

So bring Bill in there to try to make everybody nostalgic for the great economy that was the 1990s which was simply, if truth be told, the economic boom of the nineties was that which began in 1984 when the Reagan economy and tax cuts finally kicked in.\u00a0 And it just kept on and kept on and kept on and came to full fruition in the mid-nineties with the Clinton presidency.\u00a0 But beyond even that, how about this idea that there\u2019s a guy out there who can fix the economy. There\u2019s one guy, “I\u2019m gonna put my husband, Bill Clinton, in charge of the economy. Bill Clinton\u2019s going to revive the economy.”\u00a0 As though there\u2019s one guy who\u2019s got the answers.<\/p>\n

Well, if that one guy has the answers, why doesn\u2019t he fix it now?\u00a0 Why hasn\u2019t he advised on what to do the last seven and a half years?\u00a0 Why, if one guy has the means to fix the economy has he stood mute?\u00a0 Of course it\u2019s a flawed premise.\u00a0 One guy doesn\u2019t run the economy, good or bad.\u00a0 It\u2019s too massive and too big.\u00a0 But the low-information voters on the Democrat side don\u2019t think that way at all.\u00a0 They do think of things like kings and dictators waving magic wands to make magic happen.\u00a0 So I doubt their attitude toward it would be anything like mine was.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 The views expressed by the host on this program documented to be almost always right 99.8% of the time.\u00a0The Wall Street Journal<\/a> has a piece today on the Clintons and their economics.\u00a0 This misses the point.\u00a0 Hillary Clinton says she\u2019d expect Bill Clinton to help fix the economy. So the Wall Street Journal sets out in traditional Wall Street Journal fashion — it\u2019s predictable — to meticulously compare Bill Clinton\u2019s policy position in the nineties with Crooked Hillary\u2019s economic policies of today.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s nicely done, it\u2019s smart, and it\u2019s boring as hell.\u00a0 Worse than that, it completely misses the political point that Trump raises in his tweet.\u00a0 Okay, so I understand the Journal\u2019s relationship, and I understand that the people that read the Journal think they\u2019re top-notch businesspeople and da-da-da-da-da.\u00a0 And so we\u2019re gonna have in-depth comparison of Bill Clinton\u2019s policies and economics and Hillary — it misses the whole point.\u00a0 That\u2019s not why Hillary is putting Bill in charge of the economy because of his economic policies or principles.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s doing it to try to revive a moribund campaign relying on the one Clinton that has some vestige of popularity remaining even though both have been corrupt.\u00a0 You know how much these two have made in speeches in the last 16 months?\u00a0 Over $6 million in the last 16 months.\u00a0 In the last 16 months, over $6 million in speeches alone.\u00a0 They make more in one speech than many Americans will make in five or 10 years.\u00a0 But an in-depth comparison of Hillary\u2019s economic policy and Clinton is not what is called for here.<\/p>\n

In the first place you\u2019ve got Hillary, “I am Woman.\u00a0 I am feminist.”\u00a0 She\u2019s so economically inept she\u2019s gonna put her husband in charge of it.\u00a0 Not up to the job herself, needs her husband\u2019s help.\u00a0 I mean, it\u2019s not about the discrepancies between then and now.\u00a0 First woman president can\u2019t do the job without her husband, in name only.\u00a0 The most cheated-on woman on the planet holds onto her cheating husband because he\u2019s the brains of the partnership, at least on this side of the divide.<\/p>\n

Look, I\u2019m not ripping the Journal.\u00a0 I\u2019m trying to point out how people are covering this campaign, particularly the Trump campaign, and they\u2019re trying to plug Trump and the way he does things and who he is and how he\u2019s gotten to where he is, they\u2019re trying to plug him into the ages old political playbook for covering campaigns, and you can\u2019t do it.\u00a0 Square peg, round hole.\u00a0 It misses the whole point when you try to do that.<\/p>\n

You know what I think?\u00a0 I think that part of this, I think part of the reason why so many on all sides, you\u2019ve got conservative media types doing it, liberal media types, are trying to cover Trump in traditional ways in which campaigns of candidates and campaigns have always been covered, because they\u2019re trying to assure themselves that Trump isn\u2019t unusual.\u00a0 They\u2019re trying to assure themselves that Trump is pretty much like what we get with any candidate when you strip away the surface and you dig down deep.<\/p>\n

And the reason they want to do that is \u2019cause I think they\u2019re trying to find assurances that Trump can lose because I think a whole lot of people are getting very, very worried that Trump not only can win, but is going to.\u00a0 If you take a snapshot of this point in time, if the election were today, who knows?\u00a0 The Democrat Party is imploding.\u00a0 The Republican Party, you can say it\u2019s imploding, but where\u2019s the momentum?<\/p>\n

By the way, it\u2019s now official:\u00a0 Trump has received more votes than any Republican ever, in a Republican primary.\u00a0 Broke the record set by George W. Bush.\u00a0 What is he now, 60 delegates away from the — (interruption) Why are you frowning in there?\u00a0 Do you disagree with that?\u00a0 It\u2019s absolutely true.\u00a0 Okay, so 66 or 77 away from actually securing the nomination, minus whatever trickinology Curly Haugland\u2019s<\/a> gonna try at the convention.<\/p>\n

So many people are still trying to plug Trump into traditional campaign coverage, and it just doesn\u2019t work.\u00a0 But I think the reason is they\u2019re looking for assurances that Trump can lose, that he will lose. And the way he will lose is as a normal Republican.\u00a0 He\u2019s not gonna redraw the electoral map, for example.\u00a0 “No, no, there\u2019s nothing special about Trump. He\u2019s not gonna bring New York or Michigan into play. No, no, no, just a regular Republican, can\u2019t possibly win any of those states.”\u00a0 And they\u2019re digging deep and doing analysis to try to prove that they are correct.<\/p>\n

The bottom line is nobody knows.\u00a0 Nobody has slightest idea where this is all headed.\u00a0 We don\u2019t even know what\u2019s really gonna happen on the Democrat side.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Hi, Rush.\u00a0 Hey, let\u2019s go back to 2012.\u00a0 The Republican National Convention (unintelligible) and hammering Obama on the economy constantly.\u00a0 So what did Obama do at the Democrat National Convention?\u00a0 They brought on aging Bill Clinton to tell everybody that he could not have done a better job than Barack Obama.\u00a0 And now we see how horrible Obama has made the economy.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Wait a minute.<\/p>\n

<\/a>CALLER:\u00a0 So I don\u2019t know what Bill Clinton\u2019s gonna do if Obama was so much better than him.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Hey, you\u2019re exactly right, and this is not a small point.\u00a0 This was a major focus of the Democrat convention.\u00a0 The economy, like it is today, four years ago was in a tatters.\u00a0 Obamacare had just been implemented and nothing about it was going right because it couldn\u2019t go right.\u00a0 It was not designed to go right.\u00a0 You were never gonna be able to keep your doctor.\u00a0 You were never gonna be able to keep your plan.\u00a0 They lied to you left and right.\u00a0 They\u2019re laughing about how easily they got away with it.\u00a0 And they did, they had to bring Bill Clinton on, and he pointed his finger, it was a major point of his speech.<\/p>\n

Matt, you\u2019re exactly right.\u00a0 I\u2019ll bet if we searched our audio archives — ahem — that we could find this.\u00a0 Clinton standing up on the stage, where were they? Where was the Democrat convention?\u00a0 Baltimore?\u00a0 I forgot where.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t matter where it was.\u00a0 Clinton standing up there (Clinton impression), “I just want to tell you people, not even I could have done any better on this economy.\u00a0 There\u2019s not a single person that could have done any better.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t, I couldn\u2019t have done better than Barack Obama has done.”<\/p>\n

And the reason it was such a big deal is because in the Democrat Party, Clinton does have this reputation as a great, great economics micromanager.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 It was in Charlotte, home of the transgender bathroom issue, by the way.\u00a0 And it was Clinton that went out there to get Obama\u2019s rear end out of the bacon because it was steaming.\u00a0 And Clinton does have this this reputation of just the greatest economic micromanager \u2019cause the nineties is what the Democrats used to counter the Reagan eighties when they say Clinton is what saved the country from Reaganomics and trickle-down and so forth.\u00a0 So for Clinton to come out in praise of Obama, say nobody could have done better, was big.\u00a0 It was huge.<\/p>\n

And so here\u2019s Hillary now saying that she\u2019s gonna bring Bill on to run the economy.\u00a0 See, she can nibble around the edges about how bad things are now by talking about how she\u2019s gonna improve this or improve that, but she can\u2019t conduct a full head-on attack on the economy because to do that would be attack her very principles and her party and her president.<\/p>\n

So the way she does it is to say she\u2019s gonna bring Bill on to run the economy.\u00a0 But Bill has admitted, and Trump could put this in an ad (Clinton impression), “Nobody could do better than Barack Obama, not a single person ever.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t do it; nobody could do it.”\u00a0 That\u2019s an amazing recollection, Matt, and I appreciate it.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 Grab sound bite 42.\u00a0 We got Bill Clinton at the Democrat convention.\u00a0 This is it. This was from September 5, 2012.\u00a0 This is where Clinton said that not even he could have done a better job than Barack Hussein O.<\/p>\n

CLINTON:\u00a0 I had the same thing happen in 1994 and early \u201995.\u00a0 We could see that the policies were working, that the economy was growing.\u00a0 But most people didn\u2019t feel it yet.\u00a0 President Obama started with a much weaker economy than I did.\u00a0 No president — not me, not any of my predators, none — could have fully repaired all the damage that he found in just four years.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 There you have it.\u00a0 There\u2019s Trump\u2019s ad. There\u2019s Trump\u2019s ad — the Republican ad — for when Hillary says she gonna put Bill in charge.
