CALLER:\u00a0 Hey, Rush, nice to speak to you.\u00a0 Yeah, I\u2019m a 29-year-old from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I voted for Ted Cruz in the primary recently. And I used to think of myself as a #NeverTrump-er, but I am currently going to vote for Donald Trump in the general election.\u00a0 I have really been struggling \u2019cause I have a lot of friends who are Cruz supporters, and even lost friends because of this, actually. And I just have been arguing with them and discussing this with them. And they are really, really strictly #NeverTrump.\u00a0 I don\u2019t understand it.\u00a0 They don\u2019t seem to be aware about the SCOTUS picks.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want Hillary getting the Supreme Court pick.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want her having another four years of Obama.\u00a0 Obama\u2019s on senioritis mode right now doing whatever he can.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Tell me something before you go.\u00a0 How have you lost friends in this?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I\u2019ve lost friends because they think I\u2019ve abandoned them and their values and am a traitor to them.\u00a0 I went to the rallies with them.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You mean the Cruz rallies?<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Yes, Cruz rallies. Cruz rallies all the time.\u00a0 And they think I\u2019m a traitor.\u00a0 They don\u2019t think I\u2019m a true conservative anymore.\u00a0 I am… I learned that I\u2019m #NeverHillary.\u00a0 I cannot let her get into office.\u00a0 I just can\u2019t.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Well, see, that\u2019s me, too.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Especially being a Rush Baby<\/a>.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, yeah, thank goodness.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 My parents love me; I love my parents. I know they\u2019re listening, and they raised me listening to you.\u00a0 I\u2019m #NeverHillary.\u00a0 And I\u2019m very, very nervous. Especially with Obama getting all this passed, like I said.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 You haven\u2019t seen anything yet. I tried to tell people all last year: This last year of Obama, he\u2019s unchecked. The Republicans have promised that there\u2019s nothing they\u2019re gonna do to stop him. They\u2019re not gonna use power of purse. They\u2019ve taken impeachment way off the table.\u00a0 This is just… You wait \u2019til the last four months of this year. You wait and see what Obama does.\u00a0 And I\u2019ll tell you something else: If the Republicans win in November, you\u2019re gonna see a December like you can\u2019t believe.<\/p>\n

There are going to be things done that will potentially create all kinds of bigger messes for whoever the Republican president is — Trump — to inherit.\u00a0 But, look, back to your original premise here about losing friends. You\u2019ve got some Cruz people that just can\u2019t find their way to Trump no matter what and they\u2019re angry at you. They don\u2019t understand because you were you were for Cruz. To understand where a lot of people are in this, you have to go back to before Trump entered the race.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Right.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Ted Cruz, to a lot of people, has been the single greatest conservative opportunity since Ronald Reagan.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Yes.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 There\u2019s been nobody that\u2019s come as close.\u00a0 Now, Cruz is not Reagan in some key areas, not policy. But nevertheless, they were all pretty confident. With the field as it was with 17 people, the conservatives were very much aware the establishment was not gonna succeed with Jeb Bush. I mean, we just instinctively knew that there was no momentum for the establishment. No matter how much money they raised, Cruz was gonna be… Trump coming in, the frustration that conservatives have felt ever since Clinton and ever since the Republicans blew an opportunity in the House..<\/p>\n

There have been a series of moves where the Republicans have won and have not tried to advance any sort of conservative agenda. It\u2019s been maddening, it\u2019s been frustrating, and all of this has had practical meaning, that we\u2019re losing the country and we\u2019re losing it fast, and we are falling farther and farther away from our founding principles. Cruz was not only gonna be the break on that but he was gonna reverse it.<\/p>\n

Cruz was going to be the instrument by which we reassert and establish what we believe that\u2019s gonna provide the energy that would actually save the country and start creating economic growth and prosperity and renew the concepts of liberty and freedom. There was so much invested in this and conservatives were so intent, so desperate for it, so desirous of it, and so filled with optimistic belief.\u00a0 And then Trump comes along and blows everything up.\u00a0 And it\u2019s like this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that\u2019s now gone, and it\u2019s just…<\/p>\n

As far as they\u2019re concerned, it causes people to be angry — depressed, even — in certain ways, because the fear they have is that Trump is not conservative, that he\u2019s nowhere near conservative, that he\u2019s got everybody fooled in that regard, that he\u2019s really no different than Hillary. When you get down to brass tacks on the practical application of conservative issues, that the fact that he\u2019s not a conservative… No matter what else he is or isn\u2019t, the fact that he isn\u2019t a conservative is all they need to know.\u00a0 So I understand the feeling that many of them have.\u00a0 They feel like they\u2019re there\u2019s no anchor now and —<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 I can feel that, too. I feel like, “Yes, you\u2019re right. Donald Trump came in, and our guy was supposed to be that outsider. He\u2019s the real outsider.” Donald Trump comes in, and he\u2019s viewed as that outsider that we viewed as an outsider all along.\u00a0 But the real threat is Hillary Clinton. The thing that\u2019s alarming for me is that my friends are willing to let her win. They want four years of Hillary Clinton.\u00a0 My friends want four years of that because they think that will hit the reset button in four years, and I don\u2019t think we have four years, especially after what\u2019s gonna\u00a0 go on until November.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 See, you\u2019re right. There\u2019s always gonna be an America, but we are in the midst of a promised transformation.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t stealth anymore.\u00a0 This is not the Democrats sneaking this stuff by.\u00a0 They\u2019re doing it right in front of our faces, and our party hasn\u2019t lifted a finger to stop it.\u00a0 That also adds to the frustration.\u00a0 Now, Jeff Sessions, who has endorsed Trump and is unquestionably conservative, Senator from Alabama, has written a brief piece today. It\u2019s an op-ed explaining why, and it might be worth your while to find that and share it with these guys.<\/p>\n

Because Jeff Sessions might hold some credibility with them. I don\u2019t know, but he might.\u00a0 Sessions is primarily concerned about the border and immigration and the maintenance of what we\u2019ve all come to know and love and appreciate as the dominant American culture, and there\u2019s no question it\u2019s under assault and it\u2019s under attack.\u00a0 Sessions, as far as he\u2019s concerned, that\u2019s issue number one — and there isn\u2019t anybody else but Trump. \u00a0Trump, in fact, is the preferred candidate for that very reason, as far as Sessions is concerned, being as it\u2019s the most important issue.<\/p>\n

And there\u2019s no way Hillary Clinton or any Democrat is acceptable in that area or any other, as far as I\u2019m concerned. And you agree with that.\u00a0 And these guys at some point probably will, too.\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping they do, because the objective of this has to be — finally, once and for all — to stop the Democrats.\u00a0 It just has to be.\u00a0 They\u2019re the most destructive force working their will on this country each and every day.\u00a0 And there hasn\u2019t been a serious effort to stop these people in 7-1\/2 years.<\/p>\n

CALLER:\u00a0 Yeah, I totally agree. And we need to stop the Democrats now because if they go to four more years, especially with the Supreme Court pick coming up, I don\u2019t know what\u2019s gonna happen.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Yes, you do.\u00a0 If they —<\/p>\n

CALLER: It\u2019s gonna be 5-4 vote.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s not just one.\u00a0 It\u2019s not just one.\u00a0 God\u2019s waiting room is the Supreme Court building.\u00a0 It\u2019s not just one opening. \u00a0There\u2019s a whole bunch of them that are approaching the age, if you will, where they clearly have many fewer years ahead of them than behind them.\u00a0 And in the next four years, there could be two or three more.\u00a0 And you let a liberal Democrat president… A liberal Supreme Court is not a court.\u00a0 It\u2019s a rubber stamp.\u00a0 The four liberals on the Supreme Court now are not judges.\u00a0 They\u2019re not judges.\u00a0 They\u2019re left-wing rubber stamps.<\/p>\n

No matter what the issue is, the left-wing liberal interpretation of it — whether it\u2019s constitutional or not — will be how they vote.\u00a0 It\u2019s a rubber stamp.\u00a0 There isn\u2019t even any learned considered legal thought or analysis going on among those four.\u00a0 You get one more of \u2019em, sayonara.\u00a0 And don\u2019t forget, the court has become where every political issue is decided once and for all.\u00a0 It was never intended to be that, by the way.\u00a0 But yet that\u2019s what it has become.\u00a0 So that\u2019s a crucial aspect of this, too.\u00a0 I\u2019ll tell you something else that bothers some #NeverTrumpers, and it\u2019s not so much Trump.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s a factor with some of them, but some of the #NeverTrump crowd, the Cruz people, just can\u2019t stand some of Trump\u2019s supporters. They just can\u2019t stand \u2019em. The trolls, they\u2019re out there on Twitter. They think they\u2019re brain-dead.\u00a0 A lot of Cruz supporters think, “My God, if this is the sum total of the IQ supporting Trump, we are screwed.”\u00a0 It\u2019s mean-spirited. It\u2019s vicious. These Twitter trolls, I don\u2019t care what they\u2019re trollingit\u2019s a live sewer out there.\u00a0 Whether they\u2019re Trumpists tweeting or whether they\u2019re #StopRush or what whoever they are, they\u2019re just the dregs, just a bunch of human debris out there.<\/p>\n

So the anti-Cruz people are out there trolling just literally rub the pro-Cruz people raw and make seem like, “My God, not only is Trump winning, but the people supporting him have a combined IQ of three.”\u00a0 So I understand all that.\u00a0 Where it\u2019s gonna end up, I wish I could tell you, and my guess is that\u2019s all they are.\u00a0 But my problem is… And it\u2019s a problem. All of them… You say you\u2019ve lost friends.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t lost any friends over any of this, but I bet if I applied myself I could.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t lost any friends, but the biggest challenge I get is my optimism.<\/p>\n

That makes other people think I don\u2019t get it.\u00a0 When I\u2019m not wringing my hands and as worried as they are, and if I do not echo the… One of the most popular refrains in the #NeverTrump crowd is that it\u2019s over. “Trump is gonna get crushed! It\u2019s gonna be the biggest landslide. Oh, my God, we\u2019re in the wilderness for 30 more years!”\u00a0 I shared with you some of this apocalyptic reasoning last Friday on this program, and I don\u2019t have the capacity for that.\u00a0 I mean, personally, I just can\u2019t live being that obsessed with doom and gloom and apocalyptic thinking and so forth.<\/p>\n

But a lot of people relish it.\u00a0 It inspires and motivates \u2019em. It fires \u2019em up.\u00a0 I can find myself in situations where I\u2019ve had people say, “You don\u2019t really care, do you? You don\u2019t really care! I mean, for some reason yu\u2019re not, \u2019cause how can you how can you not be pessimistic about all this?”\u00a0 I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 My natural… Believe me, I\u2019m pessimistic about a lot of things.\u00a0 I have my moments like anybody else does.\u00a0 But overall I… Folks, look, be honest, I\u2019ve been optimistic. I\u2019ve been optimistic, and many times what I\u2019ve been optimistic about has not happened.<\/p>\n

So I\u2019m tempered by realism as well. You know, I\u2019m the mayor of Realville.\u00a0 But I understand losing friends.\u00a0 I could see how that can happen, \u2019cause it\u2019s very, very tense out there.\u00a0 And it\u2019s it\u2019s… (interruption) Especially in what?\u00a0 Yeah, by the same token, there\u2019s some there\u2019s some Trumpsters out there who think the Cruzers on Twitter are just smug and arrogant.\u00a0 It works both ways.\u00a0 There\u2019s nobody singularly guilty or innocent here.\u00a0 Anyway, I\u2019m just standing back and observing it, commenting on it, telling you what I think about it, which is what you should think about it.\u00a0 Everything\u2019s fine.<\/p>\n

RUSH:\u00a0 Just call me an optimistic pessimist, folks, and you\u2019ll get closer to it — or pessimistic optimist, if you will.\u00a0 Our old buddy Pete Wehner has a piece today in which… (interruption) What did he say Mr. Snerdley? His piece says… (interruption) Oh, yeah. “Trump supporters are wrong, not evil.”\u00a0 What is Pete admonishing some who are maybe being a bit extreme describing Trump supporters as evil and Pete\u2019s trying to… (interruption) Well, I think what Pete\u2019s trying to do is apply a little grace to the entire campaign. So you…? (interruption)<\/p>\n

He\u2019s not defending Trump supporters, \u2019cause he\u2019s not one, right?\u00a0 (interruption) He\u2019s not one.\u00a0 In the Bill Kristol sound bites, you can you can hear the disappointment.\u00a0 Look, everything\u2019s upside down here, and there are a lot of people having a lot of trouble dealing with all of it, personally, professionally, ideologically, politically, the whole ball game.\u00a0 And some people still haven\u2019t come to grips with what\u2019s happened and have just terrible fatalistic attitudes about what the future holds.\u00a0 And I do, too. But I have no doubt all that\u2019s gonna happen if Hillary wins.\u00a0 That\u2019s it for me.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have any question.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s to me there\u2019s no either\/or.\u00a0 There is simply no way, in my world, you vote for a Democrat.\u00a0 There is no way Hillary Clinton gets supported.\u00a0 There is no way Elizabeth Warren is empowered.\u00a0 There is no way anybody having anything to do with the Obama administration is continually empowered.\u00a0 There is no way.\u00a0 You want to talk apocalypse? You want to talk fatalism and pessimism? You surround me with that stuff and you\u2019ve got it. My optimism is rooted in the belief that they can be stopped, that I hope they can be stopped.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, Senator Sessions, I mentioned his column.\u00a0 I want to give you some excerpts from this today.\u00a0 Jeff Sessions\u2019 op-ed.\u00a0 It\u2019s short.\u00a0 It\u2019s USA Today.\u00a0\u00a0“Election Offers a Simple choice — In Donald Trump, we have a forceful advocate for America.”\u00a0<\/a> And just some cherry-picked pull quotes here.\u00a0 “For the first time in a long time, this November will give Americans a clear choice on perhaps the most important issue facing our country and our civilization,” and that is “whether we remain a nation-state that serves its own people, or whether we slide irrevocably toward a soulless globalism that treats humans as interchangeable widgets in the world market.<\/p>\n

“In Donald Trump, we have a forceful advocate for America. Trump has said that our trade, immigration and foreign policies must be changed to protect the interests of American workers and our nation.\u00a0 In Hillary Clinton, we have a committed globalist. Clinton was an ardent supporter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership — which surrenders American sovereignty to an international union of 12 countries — and has clearly left the door wide open to enacting the pact if elected.\u00a0 There is only one sure way to defeat the TPP, and that is to defeat Hillary Clinton.”\u00a0 By the way TPP is not to be confused with the TPA.<\/p>\n

Do you know what the TPA is versus TPP? (interruption)\u00a0 Well, if it comes up, I\u2019ll explain it, but just don\u2019t confuse the two.\u00a0 The TPP is the bad one.\u00a0 The TPA, you could may case for it.\u00a0 But it\u2019s not a deal.\u00a0 TPA simply grants president fast-track authority to negotiate these kinds of things. (interruption) I know, but wait… (interruption) But wait. (interruption) You can\u2019t you can\u2019t have 535 negotiators on a deal.\u00a0 So it\u2019s a tricky thing.\u00a0 A lot of people oppose the TPA, too, because we\u2019ve got a guy like Obama who you don\u2019t want to have the fast track to do anything.<\/p>\n

But in the generic sense, having a president with fast-track negotiating authority for the most part is something you would prefer rather than letting every member of Congress dip their hand in this well to try to have some say so with it, but that… I wouldn\u2019t want that. (interruption) I know, it\u2019s a tough thing to argue TPA when Obama is the president we\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 But there\u2019s a difference.\u00a0 It\u2019s not the TPP, and opposing the TPP is a slam dunk.\u00a0 There ought to be nobody reasonable, responsible in favor of this.<\/p>\n

And Hillary is.<\/p>\n

Ted Cruz was not, despite what people tried to say.\u00a0 Ted Cruz was for TPA.\u00a0 He did voted with Ryan to grant fast track authority, but he was never for the TPP.\u00a0 Anyway, more from Sessions.\u00a0 “Meanwhile, Clinton\u2019s immigration platform is the most radical in our history. Freezing deportations. Ending detentions. Halting enforcement. She\u2019d expand President Obama\u2019s illegal amnesty decree, effectively creating open borders.\u00a0 Clinton\u2019s extremist proposal economically targets our poor African-American and Hispanic communities whose wages and job prospects are being steadily eroded by the huge influx of new foreign workers.<\/p>\n

“Yet some Republicans persist in saying that they don\u2019t know whether Mr. Trump is a ‘real conservative.'” As far as Jeff Sessions is concerned, he is a real American.\u00a0 And as he states in his open, “In Donald Trump we have a forceful advocate for America.”\u00a0 Has it really not come down to that?\u00a0 I mean, is that not the Democrats…? Many people question it. They don\u2019t like America.\u00a0 That\u2019s why they want to transform it.\u00a0 They don\u2019t like America as founded. They don\u2019t like America as is.<\/p>\n

They don\u2019t like American foreign policy, don\u2019t like the American military, don\u2019t like American corporations, don\u2019t like American capitalism, don\u2019t like America period. \u00a0To them, America\u2019s flawed, gotta be fixed, gotta be transformed, gotta be reversed.\u00a0 And how do they fix it?\u00a0 “Well, we gotta let more people from all over the world who are better people than us! We gotta let the disadvantaged in. We gotta let the people that we have made poor, we\u2019ve gotta let the people that we\u2019ve mistreated, we\u2019ve gotta let the people whose resources we have stolen — we need to let them into our country.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s the only way they can be paid back for what we took.” That\u2019s their thinking.\u00a0 They never, the Democrats… Hillary, she never worries about her geopolitical location.\u00a0 Wherever she is, she never worries about any of that upsetting her way of life, her standard of living.\u00a0 No Democrat ever does.\u00a0 They can wall themselves off.\u00a0 They don\u2019t care about anybody else.\u00a0 But they will damn well… Like Mr. Snerdley was asking me earlier, “Do you think the Obamas\u2019 kids are gonna be going into these nongender specified bathrooms any day soon?”\u00a0 No way.\u00a0 But yours? Well, your school is gonna be mandated to make such room available.\u00a0 Hmm.\u00a0 Standard operating procedure.<\/p>\n
