RUSH: On the Democrat side, this from Bloomberg: “President Barack Obama and lawmakers are considering cutting Social Security and increasing revenue by changing the way the government measures inflation. Four senior congressional aides said lawmakers are discussing using an alternative yardstick to gauge inflation, known as the ‘chained consumer price index,\u2019 to determine annual cost-of-living adjustments for millions of Americans.”<\/p>\nThey\u2019re already using a weird COLA adjustment to say there isn\u2019t any inflation. Social Security recipients aren\u2019t getting COLA adjustments now because, according to the current new formulation, there isn\u2019t any inflation. Ha-ha, if you believe that. Here\u2019s Pelosi warning Obama yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n

PELOSI: However the President represents it, I want him to have the room to do that and offer full cooperation to do that. I also want to have full clarity about where House Democrats stand. We do not support cuts in benefits for Social Security and Medicare. Any discussion of Medicare or Social Security should be on its own table. I have said that before. Do you want to take a look at Social Security, then look at it on its own table, but do not consider Social Security a piggy bank for giving tax cuts to the wealthiest people in our country. We are not going to balance the budget on the backs of America&rsquo;s seniors, women and people with disabilities.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, but, Ms. Pelosi, what happens if these phantom cuts — which is what they would be anyway, \u2019cause nobody\u2019s gonna cut Social Security — what if these phantom reported cuts can be blamed on the Republicans, two years from the 2012 election? Would you support it then? That\u2019s what Obama\u2019s about. You think Obama\u2019s gonna drag her in and say, “Look, you don\u2019t get it, the Republicans are gonna get blamed for this. We\u2019ve already got Ryan out there saying he wants to reform Medicare. Half the job\u2019s already done, you ditz.” Think he\u2019d talk to her that way? Any time I read stories of splits between Obama and the Democrats I say, “Wait just a second.” I\u2019m not buying that, either, my friends.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Last night, CNN\u2019s In the Arena and the fill-in host, a guy named Tom Foreman, he spoke to Mr. Conventional Wisdom, David “Rodham” Gergen, about the federal debt negotiation deal, the talks. Foreman said, “When you got a big, titanic war like this, you want people to be agreeable, but you also want \u2019em to represent their interests because they\u2019re supposed to represent the interests of a lot of people in the country, right?”<\/p>\n

GERGEN: Republicans are holding tight on this. They feel very strongly, no tax increases. And so what\u2019s happened is the president is conceding more and more spending cuts, and now he\u2019s starting to, you know, promise entitlement reform, Medicare and Social Security, you and I never thought we\u2019d be talking about this now, and progressive Democrats are saying, “Wait a minute, that\u2019s the issue we\u2019re gonna run on. We\u2019re gonna run in 2012 to say, ‘Protect Medicare.'” Nancy Pelosi said just the other day, “There are three big issues for us in 2012: Medicare, Medicare, Medicare.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, it\u2019s the Democrats that have cut it. But anyway, David “Rodham” Gergen is a little upset here \u2019cause they\u2019ve heard the White House might agree to cuts in Medicare and Social Security if Republicans will go along with revenue increases elsewhere. So Pelosi\u2019s worried about it; David “Rodham” Gergen is worried about it. Foreman then said, “Well, look Dingy Harry, too, Dingy Harry is getting on that bandwagon, said we got to protect this.”<\/p>\n

GERGEN: That compromises the Democrats. It takes them off the high road for 2012. And I think what we\u2019re seeing is the president\u2019s interests in 2012 are not the same thing as members of the House and Senate, especially progressive Democrats. The House and Senate people all want to run on let\u2019s protect Medicare, let\u2019s protect Social Security from these terrible Republicans. So you\u2019ve got a growing split now between a lot of the progressives. Nancy Pelosi I think must be just furious about what she sees going on.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I wonder. I don\u2019t know whether to believe, you got these guys talking about Democrats, whether they\u2019re actually furious as though they, too, are clueless about what Obama\u2019s doing. It\u2019s kinda hard to believe, but just notice in these sound bites, notice how automatic, “Oh, yeah, Republicans wanted to destroy Medicare and Social Security,” that\u2019s a given, right? That\u2019s a given. The Democrats want to run on let\u2019s protect Medicare, let\u2019s protect Social Security, these terrible Republicans, oh, yeah, the Republicans, that\u2019s what they want to do. They want to kill the program. Right. Everybody just assumes this. See how easy it is? Oh, yeah, Republicans, sure, they want to end Medicare. They want to end Social Security. Sure. Absolutely. No question about it. <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know, folks. The guy that would throw his own grandmother under the bus might not stop or think twice about throwing Pelosi under a bus, twice. And he did. He threw his own grandmother under a bus. Ah, she\u2019s typical white woman, right? Didn\u2019t he say that? Typical white person, sees a black guy, “Oh, my God, I\u2019m gonna die,” runs for the bus stop cover. <\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Now, I want to go back to David “Rodham” Gergen. Notice how natural it is, the Democrats want to run on Medicare, Medicare, Medicare. The Republicans, those rascally Republicans, they want to take it away from you. I listen to that, and I note how easy it is, “Oh, of course that\u2019s what Republicans do, they take Social Security away from old people, they take Medicare away from old people, oh, that\u2019s what they do, right, easy, everybody agrees with that.” Is David Gergen on this planet? The so-called progressive Democrats who want to run on Medicare and Social Security led by Pelosi cut Medicare $500 billion in Obamacare. <\/p>\n

Paul Ryan doesn\u2019t do anything to Medicare. His plan doesn\u2019t affect current recipients of Medicare at all. The Democrats, Obamacare cut $500 billion from it, folks. And by doing so, they\u2019re going to deny seasoned citizens their drugs and care. It\u2019s the death panels. The so-called progressive Democrats did that. It\u2019s the same as Obama wailing and moaning about the depreciation schedule for corporate jets when the Republicans didn\u2019t even vote for it. The Republicans didn\u2019t even propose it. It is indicative of the height of utter incompetence and irresponsibility on the part of the media. If there were such a thing, it would be journalistic malpractice the way this stuff gets reported because it\u2019s all untrue, everything they\u2019re saying about the Republicans.<\/p>\n
