Signing statements, they hated Bush for this. And Obama himself, back in May of 2008, Grand Junction, Colorado, he was in a campaign event and he promised (every Obama statement has an expiration date) to never use signing statements. Here\u2019s what he said then&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>OBAMA 2008: Yeah! Congress\u2019 job is to pass legislation. The president can veto it or he can sign it. This is part of the whole theory of [President] George Bush that he can make laws as he\u2019s going along. I disagree with that. I taught the Constitution for ten years. I believe in the Constitution and I will obey the Constitution of the United States. We\u2019re not gonna use signing statements as a way of doing an end run around Congress!<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: He just did one. He just promised to issue a signing statement. <\/p>\n<p>BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n<p>RUSH: Here it is: In a statement issued Friday night, President Obama took issue with some provisions in the budget bill &#8212; and in one case simply says he will not abide by it.&#8221; He basically issued a signing statement indicating he will not abide by a provision in the budget bill. Here it is, even though he said (impression), &#8220;I\u2019m never gonna issue singing statements.
