RUSH: You gotta hear Barbara Mikulski on the floor of the US Senate yesterday.<\/p>\n

MIKULSKI: We\u2019re going to turn out the lights at the National Institutes of Health. We\u2019re gonna say to a researcher, “I know you\u2019re working on that cure for cancer, I know you\u2019re working on that cure for Alzheimer\u2019s, or autism, but, you know what? Washington, the Congress says you\u2019re nonessential.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: So we\u2019re gonna shut down the cure for cancer. Well, this is how they message. This is how they do the narrative. And if you\u2019ve got lackadaisical slack jaws out there who pay scant attention, “You mean the Republicans are against curing cancer?” There are people who have that reaction. We have to face it. We sit here, “That can\u2019t possibly be.” Don\u2019t doubt me on that. You get somebody like Barbara Mikulski who sounds like a union leader claiming the Republicans are gonna shut down the cure for cancer, and there are people probably at McDonald\u2019s in Port St. Lucie, who believe it. And they get all worked up. <\/p>\n

Now, you notice the media is not complaining how a government shutdown might slow down companies getting permits to drill for oil. They have their priorities here. And CNN, we\u2019re keeping an eagle eye on them because they got the big countdown clock going. CNN and all the networks are really pounding the propaganda point about the military not getting paid during a shutdown, and they never bother to mention the pending continuing resolution which explicitly addresses this problem. But you watch, there will be a message, the shutdown will stop the cure for cancer. This is what they will say. Yeah, Mikulski did say it. <\/p>\n

Now, let\u2019s go to this statement from Obama. Executive office of the president, Office of Management and Budget, Washington, April 7th. That\u2019s today. “The Administration strongly opposes House passage of H.R. 1363, making appropriations for the Department of Defense for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2011, and for other purposes. … This bill is a distraction from the real work that would bring us closer to a reasonable compromise for funding the remainder of Fiscal Year 2011 and avert a disruptive Federal Government shutdown that would put the Nation\u2019s economic recovery in jeopardy. … If presented with this bill, the president will veto it.” This bill is a separate bill that Boehner brought forth this morning that would, by itself, fund the military being paid through the end of this current fiscal year. That\u2019s what Obama is going to veto as a distraction. <\/p>\n

So all of you military families, you\u2019re not gonna get this perspective reported because all of the networks are pounding the other propaganda point about the military not getting paid during a shutdown. And, of course, this is the fault of the Republicans. But they are not mentioning the pending continuing resolution which explicitly addresses this problem. Actually it\u2019s outside the CR. Boehner has a separate bill, and that\u2019s what this statement is addressing. If presented with this bill to separately fund the military, the president will veto it. What the president\u2019s saying is this is a distraction. You\u2019re trying to get this done at the expense of passing the continuing resolution. What they\u2019re trying to do is make sure the military gets paid and the administration is saying we\u2019re not gonna get caught in your trap. And the press is carrying the message and the narrative for a president.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Briton in Paducah, Kentucky, welcome to the EIB Network. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Thank you. Hi, Rush. How are you?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Very good, thanks.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m thrilled to talk to you. I heard you mentioning earlier that Obama was calling for release of the oil reserves? Is that correct?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah, couple years ago, three years when Obama was a Senator and the price of gasoline was skyrocketing up to four bucks a gallon.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And he\u2019s calling for the release of those reserves again now?<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, I don\u2019t think he\u2019s calling for \u2019em now. If he is, I\u2019ve missed that. I don\u2019t think he is now.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, he was then, on the basis that would bring down the price. <\/p>\n

CALLER: Mmm-hmm.<\/p>\n

RUSH: My only point was, Obama says “drill, baby, drill” would not have an effect on the price.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n

RUSH: When, in fact, he has purposely previously stated that having more supply would affect the price. Now he says it wouldn\u2019t affect the price. I\u2019m just trying to point out some hypocrisy.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, that is a defining characteristic. I wanted to comment on the soldiers and military personnel comment that you made a couple of moments ago that he would veto any bill. Well, isn\u2019t he in effect calling them “nonessential” by doing that?<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, then you know, the government employees are essential but the soldiers are not.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Because he knows, he knows that the narrative in the press is gonna be spun John Boehner is responsible for this, that the Republicans are responsible. Boehner submits a separate bill that deals with nothing but funding for military salaries through the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. That\u2019s what Obama claims is a distraction. Obama said (paraphrased) “No, we don\u2019t need to be doing that! We need to avoid a government shutdown. I\u2019m not gonna sit here and act like we\u2019re gonna shut the government down and go ahead and sign that. That\u2019s just a distraction.” <\/p>\n

So the press will come up and say: “Boehner attempted to sidetrack from the issue and to curry points and favor with military families, but the sly, crafty Obama saw through the trick, and would not allow our military personnel to be used as pawns in the serious discussion and debate over funding the US government.” That\u2019s what the message is gonna be. So, even though it will be an Obama veto that results in military personnel not being paid — a veto of a bill specifically to pay them — the narrative and the PR message from the media will be that it\u2019s Boehner\u2019s fault; the Republicans\u2019 fault for doing that as a whole distraction, instead of focusing on getting a budget.<\/p>\n
