RUSH: You know what I just heard the guy say? I just heard President Obama — he\u2019s speaking before a bunch of kids again. I wish he\u2019d start making speeches to adults. He goes out there and says, <\/a>(imitating Obama) “Yeah, we can\u2019t drill, baby, drill.” These stupid kids go, “Yay!” He\u2019s out there trashing the whole notion of drill, baby, drill. He said there\u2019s no quick fixes to our energy problem. No quick fixes and every president\u2019s promised to get rid of our dependence on foreign oil. There are no quick fixes and he starts making fun of drill, baby, drill. He starts talking about how we\u2019re importing less oil since he assumed office, than any time ever before. And I got to thinking, no quick fix, well, that\u2019s probably true but if we\u2019d-a started increasing or domestic drilling 30 years ago when everybody was calling for it, would we be in this situation today? How long are we gonna keep saying “no quick fix” when if we woulda started on a quick fix 30 years ago we\u2019d be in a solution by now. <\/p>\n

Hi ya, folks, how are you? Rush Limbaugh, this is the Excellence in Broadcasting Network. <\/p>\n

I\u2019m in one of those moods. I\u2019m not gonna have much patience for lack of logic, stupidity, and other things. This drill, baby, drill, it\u2019s exactly what we need to do, and we should have been doing it for decades! How long we gonna sit here and say, “Well, quick fixes aren\u2019t gonna work”? We have an anti-American growth president. This guy, Obama, in his speech today, he\u2019s at Georgetown speaking to the students — we\u2019ll have sound bites coming up — I have the same emotions I had during the campaign. The campaign is back. It\u2019s just in full swing. Whoever was writing the campaign stuff for the teleprompter is back. You wait. You\u2019ll hear it. We\u2019ll have sound bites of this speech. It\u2019s as though he hasn\u2019t been president yet other than when he talks about his great accomplishments. It\u2019s about all the failures that have happened before he got here. It\u2019s about all the miraculous, messianic things he\u2019s gonna be able to fix. <\/p>\n

But have you seen the latest polling data, Quinnipiac, a lot of polls. “Americans have grown increasingly less likely to view President Obama as a strong and decisive leader since he took office. Roughly half now believe this aptly describes, him compared with 60% a year ago and 73% in April 2009.” How is this possible? Everybody saw this great, strong leadership in the Libya speech. Do you know that speech was so strong, it was so profound.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: The president of the United States in his energy speech today trotted out some of the same old lines about there being so many oil leases sitting around unused, that the problem is not we\u2019re not drilling enough. He actually went out and he blamed the oil companies. He blamed Big Oil. Never mind… This is why I asked, “When is he gonna start speaking before adults?” It\u2019s easy to go out and say this kind of pabulum in front of a bunch of college students who are caught up in the throes of idealism and bought into this notion at they\u2019re young-skulls-full-of-mush age that oil is the great problem in the world, that oil is the great poison. <\/p>\n

Here comes the savior, Mr. Obama, to save us all from it. Never mind that not every oil lease pays out. Sometimes there\u2019s no oil, or it would not be worth the cost to go get it, or it might be too unsafe. Not every oil lease is guaranteed. This is called risk. It\u2019s called the free market. It\u2019s called taking a chance. It\u2019s called research and development. You pay people to go out and find the best spots to drill based on the best information that you can get, but it doesn\u2019t always pan out. Maybe a well has already run dry. But as in all things, Obama pretends to know more about the oil business than the people who do it for a living. <\/p>\n

Barack Obama could not get one drop of gasoline to the market if his life depended on it. He doesn\u2019t know how it happens; he doesn\u2019t have a respect for it. You could hear it in his speech. This speech today was right out of the same attitude that that campaign took place and shortly after the immaculation. There are a bunch of different iterations of Obama. This energy speech today was a campaign speech. That\u2019s why it so irritated me because it reminded me of what everybody bought hook, line, and sinker. It reminded me of the game that was going on by the media to try to persuade everybody this guy was something unique and special when he\u2019s not.<\/p>\n

BREAK TRANSCRIPT<\/p>\n

RUSH: Here are a couple sound bites from Obama and his energy speech at Georgetown University this morning. I watched this and said, “Here we go.” I felt like it\u2019s 2007, 2008 all over again. Same attitude, same arrogance, same kinda audience, enthralled, constant stops for applause. Here\u2019s the first of the two sound bites.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: We have been down this road before. Remember, it was just three years ago that gas prices topped four dollars a gallon. I remember because I was in the middle of a presidential campaign. Working folks certainly remember because it hit a lot of people pretty hard. And because we were at the height of political season, you had all kinds of slogans and gimmicks and outraged politicians waving their three-point plans for two-dollar-a-gallon gas. You remember that. Drill, baby, drill. And none of it was really gonna do anything to solve the problem. There was a lot of hue and cry, a lot of fulminating and hand-wringing, but nothing actually happened. Imagine that in Washington.<\/p>\n

RUSH: It\u2019s as though he\u2019s not been president. It\u2019s as though these last two and a half years haven\u2019t happened and all the destruction and the four dollar a gallon gasoline had nothing to do with him. But when I heard this, as I told you when I opened the program, I got a little ticked off here. “Outraged politicians and their three-point plans and their gimmicks and their slogans.” What did he mean by that? Here\u2019s the next sound bite.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: Here\u2019s the bottom line. There are no quick fixes. Anybody who tells you otherwise isn\u2019t telling you the truth. And we will keep on being a victim to shifts in the oil market until we finally get serious about a long-term policy for a secure, affordable energy future. We\u2019re gonna have to think long term —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — which is why I came here —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — to talk to young people here at Georgetown — <\/p>\n

RUSH: Idiots.<\/p>\n

OBAMA: — because you have more of a stake in us getting our energy policy right than just about anybody.<\/p>\n

RUSH: He went on to rip drill, baby, drill. Drill, baby, it\u2019s a gimmick, it was not serious, it wasn\u2019t going to accomplish anything, we\u2019ve all had these quick fixes. Well, just imagine if 30 years ago we woulda tried one of these quick fixes. Imagine if we woulda tried one of these quick fixes ten years ago. But keep in mind, while you hear Barack Obama, the president of the United States, trash oil as a legitimate source of energy in the United States, never forget that we just gave Brazil $2 billion for their own oil industry, Petrobras, so that they can drill, so that they can explore, so that they can bring to market, oil. It\u2019s okay for the rest of the world to do it. Not us. A typical leftist. Divert and distort. Point elsewhere. He\u2019s been in the White House for two years, and he\u2019s blaming others who had so-called quick fixes years ago. Create a false scenario. The famous Obama straw man. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s like what the Democrats are doing with the budget. Senator Schumer goes out, “The Tea Party people are a bunch of extremists.” The Senate has not passed any budget bill of any kind. The Democrats control the Senate. Harry Reid\u2019s on the floor of the Senate reading a CNN poll on how people hate the Tea Party now. They\u2019re running around saying the Republicans are not serious about the budget. All the Republicans want to do is shut down the government. The Democrats run the Senate. They have not passed a budget. They\u2019re not even really debating one. They don\u2019t want a budget. They want continuing resolutions because the rules dictate that so much is off the table, talking about items to cut when you\u2019re talking about continuing resolutions.<\/p>\n
