RUSH: Steve in Sudbury, Massachusetts, welcome to the EIB Network. Hi.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Hi, Rush. You know, it\u2019s extremely odd, as a longtime listener to your show, that you, so far, have said absolutely nothing about Sarah Palin\u2019s announcement not to run last week. I mean, the fact that you\u2019ve said nothing is very, very curious.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Really? You know, I…? (snorts) What does it tell you? What are you thinking about that?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I could only speculate that maybe there\u2019s something going on behind the scenes with Palin or maybe out to muddy the waters but —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, well, well —<\/p>\n

CALLER: — what you said today led me to believe that if Romney was anointed very early, then there would be a lot of movement to get Palin in there — whether, you know, it\u2019s a draft movement or there\u2019d be time to get her in to counteract Romney. But maybe like you said <\/a>this morning, that the Democrats are trying to keep the Romney battle going for a while by releasing the Romneycare, Obamacare connection, and by having Herman Cain so it look like there\u2019s a battle going on so Palin won\u2019t be able to enter. She\u2019d only be able to enter if it was clear Romney was the only choice.<\/line><\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I don\u2019t know about that. If I haven\u2019t mentioned it (and I have to trust you), it\u2019s clearly an oversight. I just wasn\u2019t surprised that she wasn\u2019t gonna run. When I heard that she had made the announcement on my buddy\u2019s radio show, on Levin\u2019s show, it didn\u2019t surprise me at all. I never thought she was gonna run.<\/p>\n

CALLER: That\u2019s very curious.<\/p>\n

RUSH: No. It just wasn\u2019t the profile. I always thought that she was setting herself up to do something entirely different. I think I was right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, do you think that there was a Draft Palin movement for the brokered convention or some other means she would come back in?<\/p>\n

RUSH: No idea. I\u2019ve spoken to her twice, both times when I interviewed her here — I think on the air once and for the Limbaugh Letter<\/a> — about her books.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I\u2019ll tell you one thing.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I don\u2019t think so, though.<\/p>\n

CALLER: From what I\u2019ve seen, there\u2019s such a dissatisfaction with Romney by conservatives, you\u2019re gonna have another replay of the McCain people staying home unenthusiastic regardless of what you say, and it —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ha! Okay, now we throw a third monkey wrench into it. Okay, so here we go: “You pick it. The only way we can win this is if you pick a candidate.”<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m just saying, I\u2019m not sure —<\/p>\n

RUSH: No, no, no, no. I\u2019m not criticizing you. The other person says, “Stop criticizing Mitt Romney!” Then you come along and say, “No matter what you do you can\u2019t change voter turnout or enthusiasm.” So I\u2019m hearing the gamut today.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, you know, the Eisenhower election, Eisenhower was drafted by other people. So maybe we can have a replay of Palin can come in like Eisenhower if there\u2019s no clear majority at the Republican convention because we\u2019re gonna need Palin. There\u2019s nobody else out there.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, look, I wouldn\u2019t hold out hope for that because she never put together any kind of an organization.<\/p>\n

CALLER: She has a different kind of organization. In the age of the Internet, she has thousands, tens of thousands of unpaid workers — unorganized — that will go out there and fight for her. She\u2019s different. It\u2019s a different organization. To say that she doesn\u2019t have an organization is like apples and oranges. It doesn\u2019t apply to her.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you may have a point about that. I have a friend who\u2019s just crushed, just crushed. He believed, a friend of mine in Hawaii, that the only chance this country had was if Palin ran.<\/p>\n

CALLER: She\u2019s the anti-Obama! She\u2019s the clearest difference from Obama.<\/p>\n

RUSH: I don\u2019t disagree. Look, I don\u2019t disagree with you about that — and I can\u2019t tell you how frustrated I got and still get when I travel around. I have friends scattered all over the country and I\u2019ve got quite a few of them, particularly the wives, who just hate her. They just hate her! It is beyond rational. It\u2019s beyond rational. There\u2019s no way I can talk to \u2019em about it. That\u2019s incidental to the story.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I\u2019m hoping there\u2019s something going on behind the scenes, some kind of strategy that others get her to come back in. That\u2019s what I\u2019m hoping.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, I wouldn\u2019t hold out hope for that. She made a pretty public splash that “I\u2019m not running.”<\/line><\/p>\n

CALLER: Well I know I\u2019m speaking for a lot of people that have signed petitions and that are out there pushing for her that really want her, that need her to come back in.<\/p>\n

RUSH: See, I think she\u2019s probably right. She doesn\u2019t need a title to be effective, just like I don\u2019t.<\/p>\n

CALLER: She does. That\u2019s not true — and, you know, the reason she gave for not running, her family? I guess on Mark Levin she said that it was her family —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Yeah?<\/p>\n

CALLER: — and then later on Greta Van Susteren she says, “Well, \u2019cause she wants to spend time helping Congress.” I can\u2019t believe those are real reasons, because those reasons —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, then what do you think it is?<\/p>\n

CALLER: — have existed a long time before.<\/p>\n

RUSH: What do you think is the real reason?<\/p>\n

CALLER: I think it was two things. Something happened in the 11th hour that the Republicans just made it clear that there\u2019s no way she\u2019s gonna get in through conventional means, and she said a number of times —<\/p>\n

RUSH: Ah, that would have fired her up.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, but she can\u2019t get in through conventional means she\u2019s gotta go in through the side door, some other way.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, that\u2019s what you want her to do.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, I want her to be receptive to a Draft Palin movement.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you can hope for anything.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I know a lot of people would.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Okay.<\/p>\n

CALLER: And maybe that\u2019s what she\u2019s waiting for.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You don\u2019t like the fact that she\u2019s pulled out. Is there somebody in second place?<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, obviously Cain would be the only other one but like you said: Cain doesn\u2019t have the money.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Well, you\u2019re awfully puzzling.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Cain is fine but he doesn\u2019t have the money.<\/p>\n

RUSH: You\u2019re awfully puzzling because you are calling here — you need to be told this, Steve.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Yeah?<\/p>\n

RUSH: You are calling here, you are openly questioning Sarah Palin\u2019s judgment —<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well…<\/p>\n

RUSH: — and yet you want her to be president.<\/p>\n

CALLER: I would want to carefully review her words. What she said was she\u2019s not running for the GOP nomination “at this time.”<\/p>\n

RUSH: That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

CALLER: So maybe if other people push her to go in or at some later time, or even —<\/p>\n

RUSH: There\u2019s no shortage of people that were begging her to run.<\/p>\n

CALLER: Well, but now with her out of the race you\u2019ve got different dynamics. If she was in the race, you wouldn\u2019t be focusing on Romney like you were now. Now with her out of the race —<\/p>\n

RUSH: You\u2019ve got practical things like filing deadlines coming up, some are within a week now, so I think it\u2019s time to move on. I think it\u2019s time to let go and move on.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
