I don\u2019t know. I\u2019m still trying to figure it out. I mean, big names in the sportswriter community are now doing mea culpas. It\u2019s almost like they\u2019ve got the fear of God, and I know that\u2019s not it. (laughing) I know that\u2019s not what it is.<\/p>\n

RUSH: Tom in Florida, as we head back to the phones. I\u2019m glad you called, sir. You\u2019re on the EIB Network. Hi.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Good afternoon. Second-time caller, longtime listener.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Thank you.<\/p>\n
CALLER: How are you?<\/p>\n
RUSH: Very well. Thanks very much.<\/p>\n
CALLER: I was telling Snerdley about being a Florida State Seminole and watching our arch-nemesis that was with the Gators who are our arch-rivals. I was just curious, and you\u2019ve already touched on it, some of it, the way that qualities that Tebow presents out there and how he\u2019s just using the talents that he has and his beliefs. He finds a way to win and that\u2019s what he always did against us down here in Florida. So it\u2019s hard to say that about a Gator, especially Tebow, but he has just put things together; and I was wondering about your take — and you touched on some of it. If the people that we got trying to get our Republican nomination — I\u2019m a longtime Republican, lifelong Republican — would just take some of that belief and power of how you think that they could take that and —<\/p>\n
RUSH: Well, now —<\/p>\n
CALLER: (unintelligible)<\/p>\n
RUSH: — I\u2019m gonna turn this back on you.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Okay.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Since you have extensive experience losing to Tebow.<\/p>\n
CALLER: Yes, we did.<\/p>\n
RUSH: What is it that Tebow has that you think the Republicans could learn?<\/p>\n
CALLER: I think that Tebow, playing now and playing against his SEC rivals and of course us, he always came off the field and you could just watch him, and you could tell that in his eyes and his mind he was going back to his teammates, especially his line, saying, “You know what? I know how to win this, and if you will just believe in what I believe in and follow me, we will win.” It\u2019s hard for me to say that, but you can\u2019t help but like the guy, and I was listening to you talk about his liberal critics, because they are just ripping him.<\/p>\n
RUSH: Okay, let me take it from here, Tom, because one of the things that makes me a great host is that I have empathy. Empathy — humility, yes; empathy and humility — with and for the audience. And by this I mean, okay, you\u2019re out there driving around or you\u2019re home and you\u2019re listening, and you hear this guy, you hear this caller; and I know exactly what you\u2019re thinking when you listen to this guy. I know exactly what most of you are thinking. I know what most of your reaction is. Want me to tell you? You\u2019re saying, “Oh, come on! What do you mean? You really mean to tell me that what Tebow is doing on football field has got practical application in a Republican primary process? Are you…? Is this guy for real? Does this guy really think there\u2019s anything Tebow is doing…?<\/p>\n
“What, belief in God? They all believe in God! What\u2019s Tebow got that any of these people can learn from?” If you are skeptical of what Tom here in Florida, said, this is a story from way back five days ago, a little while after the Denver Broncos beat the Miami Dolphins in Miami. One of the linebackers for the Dolphins is a guy named Karlos Dansby, who used to play for the Arizona Cardinals, and according to Karlos Dansby, what happened when the Broncos played the Dolphins in week seven was this. Dansby said that the Dolphins saw God working through Tebow and, in the process, Dansby became closer to God himself.<\/p>\n

Now, what would your reaction be if Karlos Dansby had said that on this show, that Tim Tebow beating the Dolphins opened the Dolphins\u2019 eyes to God and he became closer to God? I cannot tell you what the Republicans can learn from Tebow. I think it\u2019s being a little bit overanalyzed, myself. There\u2019s no question Tebow\u2019s a winner, and I think what he does is make all those players on the team play their best. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s any more complicated than that. He a leader. He believes in himself, and so he makes it easier for people to believe in him and themselves. It\u2019s really simple, and there are people that have that ability. There are people are natural-born leaders, that inspire confidence and make you feel better about yourself.<\/p>\n
They\u2019re rare, but there are people like that; and Tebow is making a lot of people into believers in him, particularly his teammates. Now, you can\u2019t bottle that kind of leadership. You can\u2019t. Tebow could spend the rest of his life making speeches about it, and he couldn\u2019t take somebody from scratch and turn them into him and that kind of thing. He\u2019s a total package — you know, a product of who he is. But certainly there\u2019s no substitute for confidence. And it\u2019s like I said Friday on this program, and I do think this is a profundity, particularly in politics: Nobody ever won anything defending anything. I mean, you just don\u2019t. I know you\u2019re trying to think of examples where I\u2019m wrong or that would contradict me. On balance, nobody wins anything when they\u2019re defending it. The people that attack, the people that are on offense, they\u2019re the ones who win — and that is an attitudinal thing, and it would certainly help if our people had that, but I fear we\u2019re always defending.<\/p>\n

RUSH: This is why Tim Tebow has \u2019em confounded. Tim Tebow: “My teammates make me look a lot better than I am.” And when he says it, he means it. He\u2019s not saying fluff to sound good. He really means it. “My teammates make me look a lot better than I am.” You contrast that with Obama today, with Maliki, Obama taking credit today for the fact that Iraq is ostensibly democratic and that our troops are now coming home. You know, if Obama were really the unifier he says he is, he\u2019d bring Bush in there for a joint appearance here for this thing because everybody knows this is Bush\u2019s deal, but here he is trying to hog credit for it.
