RUSH: I want to go back to Mitch Daniels<\/a> here for just a second and make a comment, because he ended his opening by praising the Obamas for setting a great family values example. And he\u2019s right, they do that well. Mom and dad and the two kids. It\u2019s a good-looking family. And here\u2019s a point about that, though. Just today the First Nutritionist, Moochelle Obama, unveiled tougher nutrition standards that school meals will have to meet starting this year. There\u2019s a story, I\u2019ve got it in the Stack of Stuff from earlier this week. Junk food in the schools did not contribute to any negative characteristics or aspects of the kids. When they tried to get the junk food out of the schools a black market sprung up. The kids didn\u2019t eat the tasteless tofu rot that was put in there under the guise of health. They wanted no part of it.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not the kind of teamwork, you see, that the people of this country want. They don\u2019t want their government telling them what they cannot eat. They don\u2019t want the government telling them what they must eat. Even little leftist robot kids don\u2019t. They\u2019ll find a way around it. They have found a way around it, and they are not harming themselves in the process. Now, here\u2019s Michelle Obama unveiling tougher nutrition standards that school meals are gonna have to meet starting this year, the new standards required by the 2010 school nutrition bill that increased funding for school meals. So, yeah, I\u2019ll give you more money for school meals, but you\u2019ve gotta do X, Y, and Z in order to qualify and get and keep it.<\/line><\/p>\n

Now, she ought to just broom that stuff. She ought to get rid of that. You know, the best thing Michelle Obama could do — and I\u2019m not joking here — the best thing Michelle Obama could do for people in poverty is to simply highlight the solid nuclear family that she has with her husband, Barack, and the two kids. <\/line>That\u2019s the ticket out. In fact, Santorum made that point brilliantly in a recent Republican debate, talking about the three tickets out of poverty, just the three simple things you can do. One is to graduate high school. The other is not have babies until you are married. And that may be at the top of the list. Now, the president of the United States and his wife and family can be and are role models for the people of this country. There is no greater thing Michelle Obama could do than to simply do what Mitch Daniels credited her and her husband for doing last night, and that is setting a wonderful standard for family values and so forth.<\/line><\/p>\n

It was well delivered. It was the thing I mentioned that coulda been a slap at Newt. Might have been. Who knows. The establishment doesn\u2019t like Newt, and the establishment I\u2019m sure had a hand in putting together Mitch Daniels\u2019 remarks. There\u2019s all kinds of intricate webs of deceit being woven here, folks. Everything that seems a singular event is actually woven together. This is close to what I was talking about.<\/p>\n

DANIELS: The status of loyal opposition imposes on those out of power some serious responsibilities. To show respect for the Presidency and its occupant. To express agreement where it exists. Republicans tonight salute our President, for instance, for his aggressive pursuit of the murderers of 9\/11, and for bravely backing long overdue changes in public education. I personally would add to that list admiration for the strong family commitment that he and the First Lady have displayed to a nation sorely needing such examples.<\/p>\n

RUSH: He\u2019s exactly right about that. Michelle should just dump this nutrition stuff, which is phony baloney, plastic banana, good-time rock ‘n\u2019 roller stuff. That one thing would have such a positive impact on poor people throughout this country. I\u2019m not talking poor black people. I\u2019m talking poor people in general. But there\u2019s no denying — (interruption) Yeah, I do hate that I have to say it, but it\u2019s necessary. There\u2019s no denying, though, that our so-called social safety net has destroyed the black family. There\u2019s no denying that all of these statistics of single motherhood and illegitimacy is much, much higher, black community. (interruption) Well, Beckel didn\u2019t admit that specifically. Beckel admitted that the welfare state has caused problems, the particulars of it, destroying the black family. We\u2019ve had black people call here and point that out to us, and they\u2019re very resentful of it. So it\u2019s just a minor little point here.<\/p>\n

But, see, it\u2019s no accident that the social welfare system\u2019s destroying the family. That\u2019s not an accident. It\u2019s been going on for too long for it to be an accident. It\u2019s been going on too long for people not to see what\u2019s happening and take no step to fix it. All we\u2019ve done is double down on it, tripled down, quadrupled down on it in terms of money. The social welfare system by definition will destroy the family by making the husband unnecessary, or the breadwinner, whoever it happens to be in our modern feminist age. Whoever the breadwinner happens to be will be rendered unnecessary. The government\u2019s there. And it wasn\u2019t all that long ago, the more kids you had, the more the government was there. It\u2019s called AFDC. The more kids you had the greater the check was, larger the check was.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
